That said, I would say with almost 100% certainty that he provoked her. It doesn't excuse it, but as an O&A listener I wouldn't be surprised if he egged her on just so he could go on another rant if something bad happened.
Even if he was attacked one misdeed doesn't negate the other. He paid the price for being overtly racist in public setting. Sirus is a corporation that acted in its best interests and will always do so. This guy had to know he could be fired for a rant like that.

This sucks - Anthony is one of the funniest guys on radio and I don't think he can be replaced, so unless they move to podcast the show is over. I still like Ron and Fez too much to cancel though.

In NYC, you don't take a picture of random people on the street and expect to just walk away like nothing. Why the hell was he taking her picture in the first place? So naturally as a new Yorker that shit does not ride out here. People don't like be recorded, taking pictures at while walking on the street. Taking photos of her does not make assaulting him right, but somehow I highly doubt that he was at all respectful about it or that he didn't do a thing to provoke her. The infuriating thing is he's relying on the idea that people so easily believe that any and all black people are capable of going from 0 to violent with no provocation. We're savages, after all.
This woman is dressed for a night out on the town. She is not dressed to go out and get into physical altercations with men. I don't believe for a second that he didn't provoke her.
