Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I think this thread is silly and has ran its course (2 years of showing we are all special snowflakes is more than enough).

Is that controversial enough?

30fps games released today shouldn't be supported or bought. Its a travesty they exist at all.

Indie games for the most part are shit and they are ruining the more retro style of Nes/Snes/Genesis games by making most of them.

Not a fan of either series... But... Battlefield Hardline is still going to sell 3 million copies for no reason other than it has Battlefield in the title and be a terrible game. CoD Future Warfare is doing some things to change their formula somewhat and the game looks great but will be shit on hard just for having CoD in the title.

Xenoblade Chronicles is overrated among forum goers on the Internet. It is an OK RPG with terrible voice acting. Nowhere near the best RPG games.

Harsh...

My only issue with retro style graphics is that for some, they fetishize them and give a big emphasis on not doing what old retro games did but continue to do them anyway. Like artificial difficulty, how power-ups and upgrades are done. Give Shovel Knight a try at least. It seems to step away from those conventions and does them well despite its NES look.

Rayman: Legends didn't deserve all the praise it got.

It looked great but it had less content and less consistency than the original. It had some interesting ideas but they were executed poorly.

The 8-bit music levels were an atrocity. Adding filters that make the level too painful to look at is a cheap way to up the difficulty.

It was a huge disappointment for me.

Skyrim sucks in every other aspect except scale.

Agreed.

I loved the original Red Faction

Duh, it's awesome.

OK, here's mine:

Knack & Ryse are the best games for their respective platforms, for now.
Gears of War 1 blew
The Mario Galaxy games SUCK. Slow paced shit.
The Last of Us SUCKS.
Sonic games are often kinda OK. Maybe even goodish.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the best fighting game of last gen.
Dark Souls 2 is too easy.
Mario Kart 8 is way too easy.
Assassin's Creed 2, Gears of War 2, and Mass Effect 2 are the best entries of their respective series.
Grand Theft Auto 5 SUCKS. Boring shit.
There was never a great Saint's Row game. They're boring, average games.
Just Cause series is boring shit.
Fallout 3 is the best Fallout game, period.
Final Fantasy 13 is the best final fantasy game.

Well, at least now I know I can safely disregard anything you say.

Please stop with the pixel/8 bit graphics games already. I didn't spend $300+ on my gpu or $400+ on my game console for something that looks like it came from the late 80s. It was a nice break, but let it go.
I would understand this way of thinking if that were the only kind of games released nowadays, but it isn't. How does it hurt you in any way that those games exist? Clearly there's a market for them, and for games you like too.

The larger Pokemon game and universe - the networking, the distribution, the trading, the collecting, the evolutions, the secrets, the franchise in general - are fucking amazing.

The actual battles - the turn-based menu-based battles - are abysmally boring.
I don't think anybody here would disagree with your statement.

I hate wow and all the people who play or played it.

(Never touched it, and never will)

Btw I completely agree with OP. Being the huge zelda fan I am, I was disgusted with Majora's mask and it's the only zelda game I've played that I didn't complete (I stopped after 2 days of that ridiculous looping formula)

Just my opinions.

I do. I don't care at all about the meta game, and I only play these games for the gyms, Elite 4 and what little story there is. Can't wait to get my hands on the gen 3 remakes and proceed to not care about that competitive/completionist stuff again!

I hate wow and all the people who play or played it
Er... Thanks, I guess.

There's a lot of hate in your heart... How do you hate a game you've never played? much less everyone who's ever played it...

Agreed.

I lost a few good friends who dedicated their lives to locking themselves in their rooms to play wow 24 hours a day. Disregarding showers, haircuts, and social life. One of them lost his girlfriend of 4 years, and now lives with his parents, at 32.. And still plays.

It's just my opinion.. Don't get butthurt, who am I and what does my opinion matter?

Chill out.. And fuck that subscription based elf game.

I used to watch him play when I used to come over. Lol I'm sorry but fantasy games of this style are just not my cup of tea. The furthest I go is Zelda. I'm not even a FF fan (hate turn based games except Pokemon)

Agreed.

I wasn't butthurt... I legitimately felt sorry for you.

League of Legends proves that a player base can infact ruin a game. The playerbase in the game are insufferable pricks who have inflated egos.

Wow buddy I think you're the one that have to chill out... the guy was just asking a question, not attacking you in any way.

Because I don't like a game that apparently you worship?
Or because I lost a few friends who had great potential in life and are now losers because they spend all day leveling a fucking dwarf and spending their money on subscriptions, monster energy drinks and cheese doodles?

Maybe "hate" was a strong word.

I despise wow and don't understand how it has the popularity it does or once did. Back in the CAL days, we lost two brothers after being called up to invite because guess what? They got hooked to wow. The team collapsed while they did whatever it is you do in wow.

I'm glad my post was controversial though.

Fuck wow

You're making a lot of assumptions about me... I'm not particularly fond of WoW myself. Sounds like your friends may have had addictive personality disorders that they happened to focus in on WoW. These are the same types who become addicted to gambling. ...but no, I wasn't defending WoW at all. I was commenting on you and the hurt you clearly feel concerning a computer game.

This is basically an extension of other things I've posted in this thread (i.e. Metroid > Super Metroid... Zelda 1 > Zelda 3), but the NES was vastly superior to the SNES in every way except for graphics and sound. I really enjoyed the experimentation and variety of games that came out for that system, and still prefer to go back and play NES games than anything that came afterward. (On Nintendo hardware... that is. I do enjoy a wide variety of modern games on other consoles and PC)

Each Nintendo home console has been exponentially worse than the last, with the WiiU hovering infinitely close, but never quite touching zero.

I want another Clash at Demonhead...

But the thing about framerate is that it could be affecting whether you're having fun or not without you even being directly cognisant of it. You only think you don't care.

Man, I feel so out of the loop for not giving a shit about frame rate. Even in the thread devoted to controversial opinions do people apathetic towards frame rate get told that they really do care, they just don't know it. I've seen countless comparisons between 30 and 60, I can see the difference, I don't care. As long as a game isn't dipping so low that it becomes a distraction then I don't mind. Here's my controversial gaming opinion: FPS has only become something that everyone cares about because it makes people with PCs feel superior to those with consoles, and people with PS4s sometimes feel superior to people with Xbox Ones. Also, people who won't buy a game when it's announced it won't be 60fps are goddamn drama queens.

I'm going retro...
-Toe Jam and Earl always sucked
-E-Swat was trash
-Mystic Defender was weak sauce
-Sega hasn't made a good Golden Axe since Death Adder's Revenge
- Karnov wasn't really that good
- Ring King was crap
- Ecco the Dolphin was crap
- Space Invaders was awful
- Asteroids was worse
- Centipede was never good
- Kid Icarus was lousy
- Zaxxon was overrated
- Taito's Superman arcade game was pure shit
- TMNT NES (first game) was shitty
- SMB 2 was crap
- Legend of Kage was crap
- Bubble Bobble blew
- Kickman was dumb

I have never purchased a soccer, racing or fighting game... and won't do it ever... cause if there's a demo is like having the full game.

Why will I bother paying for Fifa14 if I can play against a friend in the demo.

The Sims is the worst shit ever come to life.

I agree. I don't care if a game is 20fps as long as it's a consistent 20 damned frames per second. I'll take that over 60 with dips to 40. That shit's jarring.

I can feel the burning rage boiling up from the depths of Compuserve BBS now. Quickly, back to the time portal!

(The only one I feel like disagreeing with is E-Swat. I replayed it 3 days ago, oddly enough. I think it's still fun.)

My man!

absolutely none of that applies to VR. Low framerates in VR makes you physically sick. People will absolutely be able to tell the difference between 30 and 60 and 120 and 240 FPS in VR. It's the difference between getting sick to your stomach and not.

Here's another:

Halo 2 had one of the most enjoyable campaigns. There I said it.

Halo 3's was kinda blah, and Comabt Evolved was great but 2's was better.

Gears of War 2 and 3 totally fucked up there respective single player modes by adding over the top weapons and explosives.

In the first Gears, you felt almost intimidated by a squad of 3-6 locust. In 2-3 you felt like a god when they threw 20 guys at you and killed them.

Oh, and Judgment shat on Gears fans. Took a big nice stinky fucking shit right on their heads.

Yes it does... I still won't care then - frame rates are not a thing for me to worry about - they're for developers to worry about.

It'll either be a good game or it won't!

I didn't find Wonderful 101 that good.
I spent a couple days trying to get into it and just thought "what's the point?" and stopped.

Thankfully I rented it.

Command & Conquer 3 is one the best RTS games ever made.

While I dont agree its the best RTS ever made, the console version of C&C 3 served as a proof of concept for console RTSs. It worked flawlessly. I loved the MP on it. The story was fun as well. The best console RTS (Halo Wars) could not have existed without C&C 3.

This. Plus, I also never cared about resolution.

So what about people who get sick from looking at 120fps? Hell, some 60fps games can do it.

Perfect Dark on N64 will always be the best splitscreen multiplayer shooter. There is no debating it. The Halo fanboys can Q_Q all they want but they don't have a case. And they never will.

Guns of the Patriots was an amazing game. people who hate on it are NOT real MGS fans. Especially those who complain about long cutscenes. Real MGS fans eat up every second of those long cutscenes because the MGS universe is that good. And despite all the hate. It is still the best stealth action game released last gen.

It makes me sick to my stomach to see some of these AAA games cost so much money. Like Destiny for example. I don't really care how good a game might be..but it should never cost so much money to make. Its just one fps game in a sea of FPS games releasing near the end of this year. Rainbow six, BF, COD, Borderlands, Halo, Evolve, and throw in Destiny on top of all the repetitive trash. Take that 500 million and instead make 10 rpg games. Or make 20 action adventure games. Or make 50 platformer games. Or even go as far as making 100 low budget titles that diversify a platforms library. But no. They decided to make one fps game. smh
