Fortnite is considered MOBA now?
Well, when you name a genre something as generic as Multiplayer Online Battle Arena..wait that sounds more like Unreal Tournament and Q3Arena
Genre should be renamed DGG - Distilled Grinding Game
This whole MOBA craze reminds me of the Rock band craze from a while back. This market is going to crash a burn (outside of Valve's efforts).
Oh, if that's the case then yeah. No, I think that post was just meant to point out some recent games with a bright, colorful aesthetic reminiscent of the CalArts style in 3D.
You swapped the name of the second with the third.ahem....
Points to whoever can guess what pic is from what game
Gigantic, Sunset Overdrive, Fortnite, Battleborn, Arena of Fate
ahem....

I don't get all the love for these exaggerated cartoony art styles for these F2P games, they're all starting to look incredibly samey to me.
Those look like completely different art styles to me. What is your point?
Seriously though, are all of those MOBA games outside of Dota and LoL even successful? MOBA's usually need such a long time to master that I can't quite imagine that a lot of people are playing a second or even third MOBA game on the side.
Games aren't allowed to be bright and colorful.
Back to brown!
You pick a hero, level him up by killing creeps and other heroes, buy items to get better. Rinse and repeat?
The issue with MOBAs, much like MMORPGs, is that they require time invested. Why don't companies understand that people keep going back to WoW (MMO) or Dota2/League (MOBA) because they spent hundreds of hours learning and investing into their account/character?
That's why no MMO or MOBA launched since these behemoths has broke out. Sure, they can be successful (FFXIV and RIFT are good examples), but they're never going to be smash hits.
I'm just on MOBA overload. I play League and Dota 2 and will likely never touch another MOBA.
"3rd person MOBA"? As opposed to the standard 1st person MOBA?

Why do all these Moba games have the same art style

Fornite is a tower defense game not a MOBA.
U wot.
Huh? That's the exact same art direction style as Dota 2.The art direction is awesome! They used COLOR!!

They want to be able to run on toasters
FortNite is NOT a tower defense game either. Where are you people getting this info? Seriously, I need to know where the confusion is.
Because when people talkf of Age of Empires or Starcraft, they say "3rd person camera"... no. That's overhead or isometric camera.
Smite is doing just fine because it's actually different. The other games that are just like LoL with some gameplay twist (Dawngate) probably won't get a huge audience.
If you are going to introduce yet another "MOBA" it should be really different from what already exist, otherwise there really isn't a reason for it to exist at all.
This game doesn't seem to have the "killing creeps" part though. And without that part it's pretty much like most online shooters these days. Except you need to have your gigantic guardian defeat the gigantic guardian of the other team in this.
Anyway, I think the topic title needs to be changed because it's misleading.
What the fuck happened to Windrunner.
