Xbox One: Preview Update August 2014 (1408)

I have this problem in some games. Guacamelee for example, the character's voices and sound effects come from the rears instead of the center (or anywhere up front would be nice). The weird thing is the PS3 version did the same damn thing, so I chalked it up to my receiver, but then again movies and everything else work flawlessly so I just don't know who to blame. I'm not dropping $500 on a new receiver just to find out.

Guacamelee programed their game that way

Its super annoying but its not the xbox

Just downloaded and installed, the featured section was missing after the first boot a second boot fixed it.

I like the new look of the friends app. The list on the left is a lot more practical now that the friends/followers/etc have been moved to the top of the friendslist in a drop down list. The comments section reminds me of Facebook in a good way. And last but not least the popular with friends sections is a welcome addition.

Only wish that those three lists would be moved a bit higher so that more of the screen space would be used by default, and more info would be visible without the need to scroll down. I understand that it would clash with the Xbox logo, but why is that even there inside of the friends app.

I think the main issue is they rarely expect you to be sitting on the dash doing nothing, and the boxes cover up almost all of the space anyway.
I rather have some colours than a black void, even when it's in the back (duh background :P ) you'll notice it and it changes your view of the object. My Windows 8 metro desktop is filled to the brim but that doesn't keep me noticing the background.

I like the new messages in the activity feed. If you're a friend on Live, I'm sorry, I might flood your activity feed.

I got you covered Duncan.

Man, Microsoft keeps killing it with the updates! Great features here! Hopefully Sony can catch up with update frequency soon!

Controller still will not power console on. I am so pissed about this. I refuse to mail them my entire console over such a simple feature
It's a hardware failure that could exist in the controller or the console, most likely the console. If you don't have another controller to determine which one is the cause I can't really blame MS for wanting to see your console. Besides how would you'd use it without a controller in the first place, in games of course.

I have been having problems since the last update

controller doesnt switch on the xbox or doesnt switch off after i've turned off the console

kinect keeps asking me to set it up

has the august update fixed these??
also, I would love an invite

Bit annoyed I haven't got the new Friends section in the update. Fuck knows what criteria Microsoft use to determine who tests what.

Everything else works just fine though.

Update is downloading for me now! WOOOOOOOO

Question is, do I need to start using the Beta Smartglass again?

If you want to use the latest features, then I would assume so, yes.

Hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Once it's off, unplug it for 2 minutes, then unplug the Kinect and plug everything back in. Those sound like really weird issues, and typically doing a hard reset will fix those.

You don't need to use the beta app unless you want to take advantage of new app features, at least this has been the case in the past.

I have the beta app on my phone, but for my Surface Pro last time it said I needed an update for it to work when the consumer release of the July update hit. Very annoying.

Oh good, they relabeled the Color Levels from "Expanded" or "Limited" to "PC" or "TV".

This should better help people select the proper choice.

I wanted to report a problem, but I failed to download the feedback app LOL

Anyway when liking clips from Upload, I hated that the menu would pop up after pressing "option", and if I press "A" BEFORE the white outline highlighted the option, it would instead play the clip in fullscreen. So I would have to wait a certain amount of time to like a clip.

It would be better if once you press option, pressing "A" didn't play the clip while the "option menu" was loading.

In power and startup, what does "When Xbox is off, turn off storage" mean?

Ack! Why?

Enabling 3D Blu-ray. An update to the Blu-ray player app will enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on Xbox One. This isn't in yet, but we will let you know when it arrives.

They need to update the app, but you can at least "Allow 3D" in Settings -> Display & sound.

Has been like this since February or March. Not only is the new description wrong (you should also use PC on your TV) but I would really like it if they finally fix this broken ass full rgb output.

Looks like an update was pushed to the Smartglass Beta app
