I don't really understand why this and Uncharted need to be movies. They are already interactive movies. Not a criticism either. I love both. Just don't see the need.

I guess for people that don't really play games, it will maybe segway them in to wanting to play the game after seeing it?

That looks like a 20 year old girl. I know it's just stand in but they couldn't get an actual like 14 year old girl?

Uncharted and Last of Us are franchises. Franchises are supposed to bring money. Sony needs money.

Sony Pictures: We're gonna ruin all of our profitable side of the businesses IPs because REASONS.

Uncharted and TLOU are probably the only two franchises that don't need to be movies. But that hasn't stopped Sony from extrapolating that just because a franchise sold well as a game, it will automatically sell well on the big screen.

Metal Gear would be a great source for adaptation though. It's not because it sells well. But because it is a 25 year old franchise that has been a significant part of video gaming. And it has broken walls, broken conventions, and a similar attempt on screen would be an interesting experiment.
Of course it would also sell well because it is a big seller.
Sony wants to low-budget these video game franchises though. While Sony puts hundreds of millions into a Spider-man movie just to be able to deny Marvel the rights to the character again. I admire Kojima for telling them to stick it up their butts when they tried to low-budget his franchise.

In my opinion, someone must feel as though the cinematic nature of the games should translate easily into cinema.

If you were in a position to make millions off of it you wouldn't be asking this question.

This movie would be awesome if told from the flashbacks of an older Ellie.

edit: Also, get rid of the clickers and replace that with the aftermath of a giant plague. That way, they can focus on the human side of the story.

Considering the source material this better be a hard R like where even Canada gives it an R rating.

Definitely, violence is a big part of the overall tone.
Can't wait to see Maisie jump on a dude's back and stab him a bazillion times
Or exclaim in a faux american accent, "Holy shit Joel!" as she tosses a brick

EDIT:

Ideally it would be prequel set a few years after Sarah's death and end just before Joel meets Ellie. Have Druckmann write a new plot

I'm kinda worried that without the whole game thing, this'll just be a weak version of The Road.

Yep. As a game, The Last of Us is pretty much unparalleled but as far as a movie goes, it is very well tread, old territory. Not saying it won't be good or even great, just that it will have to do some amazing things with it's general writing and narrative to get there.

Well, they could easily place this movie in the UK if they wanted to. It's one of those stories that could be transportable.
