i dont see how capcom will suddenly decide to remake RE2 (a feat that will require a lot more money then just rereleasing a 12 year old game) just because this sells well.
Usually Id agree, but...you know. Its Capcom. Theyre barking

How is that not a remastering? They're changing/improving assets in the game. A port would mean it's the exact same game running on different hardware.
As long as you had two types of grenade ammunition and access to a storage box, you could do shuffle the grenades a certain way between the box and your inventory to get nearly infinite grenades.
It was a fun 'cheat code' for later playthroughs where you didn't want to play seriously. Personally hope it's still in since I've beaten the game so many times without using it between the two difficulties, both characters, invisible enemies, Forest 'exploding' zombie, and speed runs to unlock the Samurai Edge and Rocket Launcher.

True. RE0 seems destined to follow but I think CV would have come out already if it was going to.
Tried this when it came out in EU, never got it to work so assume they fixed it for the EU release so would probably be fixed for this remaster.
The problem is simply this: Capcom almost certainly no longer has archives of the original level data (models, textures, etc.) Therefore, it's impossible for them to re-render at a higher resolution. We're talking about 2D images here -- no archive equals no geometry to re-render.
Given what they had to work with, I think it's actually rather an impressive job. A very nice upscaling technique was used, and perhaps even some manual tweaking.
They have the engine and middle ware available, with a blueprint to follow from the original REmake.
Remaking 2 could be done by a small team and could generate a tidy profit with a digital release to cut costs.

Yeah, hoping for a RE2make is beyond futile. It would cost a monstrous amount of money to make and the sales would just not even begin to negate let alone surpass it.

Seeing the media released, I'm pretty convinced all they had to work with were the original, pre-compression video loops. And if that's true, it's a very nice job, considering.
Really hope they port over 2 & 3 to PC/Steam too. Will buy instantly.
CV too.
And then right after that they're going to port Dragons Dogma, 3rd Strike Online Edition and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to Steam too!
Well I'm fucking in. I haven't played REmake yet, so I'll just wait for this!
Not particularly. Developed in the vein of an indie release with a reduced team size and a remake of the second game would not only be viable, but quite profitable as well.
The majority of the work would just involve asset generation. Hopefully they would spring for 3D models, but a fixed camera still makes the most sense.
Do we have any info on the cost of producing a game that exclusively uses pre-rendered backgrounds versus one that runs everything in real time ? I'm not a programmer, but I would assume that making something run pre-rendered on hardware would take less time than having it run in real-time, no ?
In which case, it's a money grab. It's like the equivalent of someone digging up some dusty, scratched up old 16mm print from an attic, giving it a quick bare bones 4k transfer, and labeling it the definitive version. For archival purposes its fine, but you don't sell it as as lovingly restored representation of the original piece of artwork.
It's not for interlaced material only.
It was developed for interlaced material because due to its nature (interlacing very broadly: the full size image is split to two half sized images) to get good a deinterlaced image you need to do some upscaling. So the people behind it had to make a good upscaler.
But the filter works for progressive material just fine. And it's one of the best.
You're only reading the Marketing bullet points, and not looking at the actual screens.
I am sincerely hoping that Capcom does an amazing job.
Come to think of it, what if what we're seeing is actually rerendered source data at native 1080p but because of their age (we're talking 2000-2002) the medium quality of the source environment textures are becoming apparent.

joke post
Any clue why 360/PS3 can't run this at 1080p? Seems kinda fucking insane.
Nice comparison! However without actually rendering the backgrounds again that gap between high resolution 3D models and the prerendered stuff will just be even more apparent. It reminds me of when I played the Pc version of RE2. The backdrops were shitty ps1 320x240 quality, while the characters were sharp 1024x768...it just looked strange and as if the 3D models didn't belong with the washed out backgrounds.Went ahead and made these.

I wonder what the current gen version will look like. I'm expecting notably better character models and some sort of graphical effect that doesn't make the pre-rendered backgrounds stand out so much compared to the character models. If you've seen this game emulated in 1080p you'll know what I'm talking about.
Glorious. If this is a success, maybe Capcom will remake 2?![]()
oh....its just 1 game.....not impressed. its the 'Collection HD REMASTER' era.

So with this release, there will be twelve resident evil titles available to play on ps3 (give or take, I might be missing something). That's a pretty astonishing number. I really hope they remaster Resident Evil Zero, there's no reason why at this point (besides the fact that it won't appeal so much to people)
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City
Resident Evil 6
