Positive female roles in the video game industry

Now I know that's a picture from 4chan and some people are against 4chan for whatever reasons.

But I do have a request since this past few weeks have been very negative and heck most of the past few years have been negative for women in gaming, find some positive female role models in gaming. Whether they be a Voice Actress, a video game designer, or just some nice friendly journalist. All of that applies since it involves gaming. Show something that women in video gaming can look up to.

Let's celebrate women in this industry with some positivity. Please no negativity in this thread.

EDIT: Yes I know that picture above does not fully represent every woman in gaming but it's a start.

EDIT2: Feel free to include any articles, interviews or videos relating to the women you suggest. Great way to educate people more.

Some would say Vivian James, as fictional as she may be.

Personally, I would say Emily Rogers; she seems to be in the know and has a level-head. She is also quite polite, and is not arrogant.

Jade Raymond got a lot of coverage a few years back, but you really don't here much about the women of the industry.

On the journalism side: Emily Rogers, Tara Long, Jessica Conditt and Leigh Alexander.

On the dev side: Hatsuu and H. Protaganist (don't know their full names, unfortunately) from XSEED.

Edit: Also, Anita Sarkeesian. I've become a big fan of her work in recent months. Both her and Leigh Alexander are great people to follow if you're interested in feminism and the issue of sexism in the games industry.

Yeah the picture I linked just got me thinking about it though I personally don't know every single name on that thing myself but I would love to hear more about them or even new women in gaming.

Interesting. I always knew Michiru Yamane for her work on Castlevania, but I did not know she worked on Rocket Knight Adventures and Skull Girls.

I also recognize Jen Zee's work on Bastion and Trasistor. A very good artist. Maybe I should be taking lessons from her. Ya?

The Fullbright Company, creators of Gone Home, include Karla Zimonja (one of its founders) and Kate Craig, who did a lot of work on the environments.

Which, you know. Is kind of a huge part of the game.

It's "only" voice acting and she has done work outside the game industry but... Courtnee Draper was amazing as Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite. In fact, her performance in Burial at Sea episode 2 DLC was outstanding and (Burial at Sea SPOILERS)
made her untimely death feel incredibly frustrating. She deserved more.

In a similar vibe: Jennifer Hale. Versatile and incredibly talented.

Where's my girl Jade Raymond.... She liked a tweet of mine the other day and my pants got tight!!!

Alright... Maybe I should ban myself from entering threads that don't have "Mario" or some other Nintendo thing in the title for a bit. If an innocuous comment like this actually annoyed me I probably need to build up a tolerance gain, lol.

I've never actually seen a picture of Mari Shimazaki until now! Bayonetta's one of my favorite character designs of all time. She brought to life Kamiya's vision with gorgeous detail and bold, creative choices. She actually bears some uncanny resemblance to the witch, at least with her head/neck proportions...

Um, seriously? A post trying to be positive about women in the gaming industry, and you immediately name one who makes your "pants tight"? How about saying something about the work she does rather than how you think she's sexually attractive?

From OP's list, much respect to Roberta Williams and Jane Jensen - the King's Quest games were my first PC games and I was a huge fan of Sierra back in the day.

It's not very innocuous at all, is the thing, to say literally nothing about Jade's contributions to gaming other than her impact on the poster's dick.

Even though she's not in the industry anymore, Cammie deserves to be there.

Also missing Sakurai's wife (i.e. his games' UI designer).

For a thread that is trying to celebrate women in the game industry as something more than the tighteners of the frontal parts of your pants, this is a pretty shitty post.

And once again /v/ seems to have a kind of vendetta even behind a good cause. The whole "ACTUAL women in the game industry" part is clearly just a snide dismissal of certain female individuals who have gotten a bad rep amongst some /v/ dwellers. No one tried to downplay people like Robert Ebert so hard when he was "just" a movie critic and not "an actual" contributing member of the movie industry.

pretty decent list. And with Roberta Williams, Phantasmagoria probably isn't the best credit...

I'm not sure I'd include Jade Raymond in that list. Looking at her past work it looks like all she's really done is Producer/Executive Producer for a fair number of projects. A few programming creds here and there (jeopardy, trivial pursuit), but that's about it.

It irks me that Aya Kyogoku gets little attention despite being one of few female directors inside Nintendo. I mean, she only directed the game that saved the 3DS (Animal Crossing) and wrote the script for the best Zelda game (Twilight Princess). Goddammit people!

So why is Kiki Wolfkill there?

Ok, well she's behind one of the biggest videogame franchises in the world... and one of my most anticipated games Assassins Creed!! I mean no disrespect on her behalf.

I have never seen anyone question a man's role or impact working on a game the way that people question Jade Raymond's.

I was going to go google her name next! (Nothing personal against her. I'm just generally kind of bad with names, and unfortunately I don't get to see hers often enough to have internalized it.)

1. 3DS was saved way before Animal Crossing, but I know that's not the point. :p
2. Was it script as in code scripting or dialog/plot scripting?

You should definitely watch the documentary that comes with the Bayonetta artbook!

There are a lot of great women at 343 Industries:

– Bonnie Ross
– Kiki Wolfkill
– Jessica Shea
– Alison Stroll

Love all those girls :)
