Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Javac beat me to it and did a better job of what I posted, HUELEN10.

This puts the buttons in awkward places. Might not be so bad on the XL though.

Yeah the XL might work better for this.

That wouldn't work; how would you use both sticks AND use the inward shoulder buttons. You'd have no grip.

Fair point

IMO that's awful. Not very comfy holding both thumbs that low and reaching for L/R. Try it on your current 3DS. Your index fingers don't wrap around/rest on L/R.

Only have a DSi.

This isn't better.

Your thumb defaults to the position where the abxy buttons are currently, having them further down will make it awkward to hit the R/ZR buttons. You can get away with it on the left side as you don't use the d-pad alongside L/ZL buttons that often. Most games will have you using the slider primarily.

It's a good way of adding another camera control short of making the handheld wider like the CPP does.

Then flip the buttons and the 2nd pad for default positioning.

On the shell, sure but in terms of on the motherboard underneath the shell etc it's a lot more problematic. There's a whole board with the button etc.

That white block on the right is the usual circle pad. It's not impossible I guess but harder than you'd think unless you make it bigger.

Oh I totally understand this, I just figured since it was a boost in specs that the motherboard would go through slightly more revisions anyhow.

Posts like this make me think people have some kind of bizarre interpretation of the 3DS library as being all first or third-person shooters. Why on EARTH would you want the analog stick in the primary position? The buttons absolutely have to be where they already are, they're the primary interaction point for virtually 100% of 3DS software. Even the games that USE the circle pad use it primarily for camera control, which you'd want pushed to the side, not where your thumb naturally lies. The c-stick is honestly the best option while maintaining the system's shape. I bet in practice it'll feel pretty alright.

As I said before, then flip them. I understand the 3DS is not an FPS machine, but having a larger 2nd pad was just a thought.

My 3DSXL recently got the crack of doom on it's right side. I got it shut with krazy glue, but I doubt that will last long. I hope this new system comes sooner than later.

Yeah more people need to take this in. Just because aesthetically they think it'd work doesn't mean with the current chips and internals they could actually get it to work.

There are better ways to fit it on.

Quick example:

Now that is just quick Photoshop, but I am sure there would be a way to fit a larger 2nd stick on there and not have an eraser.

You have to take into account the internals of the hardware as well. With the way the 1st Gen 3DS was packed, you couldn't put another input in that location. I double 2nd 3DS is any different.

Why would it be the beginning? It makes no financial sense for anyone to make NEW 3DS exclusive games. A shitty port of Xenoblade is probably the exception.

Oh dear, Nintendo....

The 3ds successor probably has the second c-stick and extra shoulder buttons so anything that runs on NEW 3ds will work fine on that too.

I imagine.

And the successor having that controls setup is probably part of unifying the console and handheld platforms in regards to being more similar and interchangeable in some way.

It's weird, but I like the smaller one better. The replaceable covers and design look better to me and the screen is a bit bigger than the OG and the battery is better! Plus it's not like they skimped out on it with things like the better 3D etc. They seem to have treated both of them equally. LL has a bigger screen, bit better battery (surprised, thought it'd be a lot better) and supposedly better materials etc.

In fact looking at the pic I posted above, the New LL has a 1750mAH battery which is the same as the normal XL. The OG had a 1300 mAh battery. I wonder what the new 3DS has?

Dude, just grab your 3DS XL and imagine that its A, B, X and Y buttons are where this image shows. You'll understand then that It wouldn't work.

Why does Nintendo keep messing with the location of the stylus silo in every DS/3DS iteration? Keep it on the back right of the system like the XL, it's the most natural and quickest position because your finger is already there! Having the stylus come out of the bottom in this new design is a terrible idea....

Is the name "New Nintendo 3DS" confirmed for the US and Europe? Could confuse a lot of customers.

"Super Nintendo 3DS" would be a better name.

They better put out limited editions of this thing. This is the first time in a while that I wouldn't mind waiting to get the new Nintendo handheld, but them pushing those cases has me worried that they might be my only option.

So I just realized that if this enables SNES VC, this means I could get a system which has

Legend of Zelda
Zelda 2
A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening
Ocarina of Time
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
A Link Between worlds

Make Majora's Mask 3D, and that's every zelda game before 2003, plus all the new handhelds.

Also, since they ported xenoblade... that means it's capable of Wii Games... so they can port Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. If they want to redo the controls, they can port Skyward Sword.

That means... the new 3DS could theoretically have EVERY SINGLE PLAYABLE ZELDA GAME all on ONE console... until the Wii U one comes out.

I need to see both New models side by side to make a decision but the SNES buttons and faceplates are already pushing me towards the small one. If the screen is big enough, I'll definitely go for it over the XL.
This is exactly where I'm at. Need to see both in person and then decide.

Of course that's assuming NOA doesn't fuck this up as usual by removing colored buttons and dropping white entirely. If that happens I'll just XL black.

Well there seems to only be two colors for each device so I would expect us to keep the white model.

You'll get purple buttons and like it!

If in they put it after 3DS and not before, and if they don't translate the new on non English countries, I don't see why would it.

Can't wait to try this. Hopefully the 3D is as improved as they say it is. I've been waiting for this iteration this entire time.

So whats the price translate too in USD?

I now wish the 2DS had faceplates. I want to get one for my cousin this Christmas and the Mario faceplate would be absolutely perfect.

Brilliant. It's a shame Nintendo's design team didn't consider this.

(I'm being sarcastic.)

That reminds me... this being announced... and not releasing in the US in 2014... might harm their 3DS sales a bit this year.

Smash Bros. New 3DS LL and white New 3DS for me if I can get the funds (ie. sell my 3DSs)

NoA had better release the white model, and the coloured buttons too. None of this shitty purple stuff please.

colored buttons look attributed to amiibo so hopefully that won't change.

Well to put it in perspective the New LL costs 18800Yen which is around 180USD and the smaller New 3DS costs 16000Yen which is around 155USD however it's important to note that the OG 3DS costs 14286Yen which is around 140 USD and the old LL costs 18000Yen in Japan which is around 170USD.

The New 3DS's along with the old LL don't come with an AC adapter in Japan if I'm correct.

From the Media Create thread

As Nintendo illustrated with their overlay finger, putting the c-stick where it is allows you to reach and manipulate it without moving your thumb from its natural position. Just extend your thumb a bit. If you put the stick BELOW the buttons, you'd have to make significant additional motion in order to reach it, gotta get it all bent and shit.

Hmm, maybe you can stream from Wii U to the n3DS now that it has the same buttons as the Gamepad (it does, right?)^^

EDIT: Okay, nah, stupid idea. Wouldn't work with all those different screen resolutions.

What if you take a New 3DS XL....

...and combine it with the upcoming MH4 Grip with shoulder circle pad??

?????

YOOOO, you would end up with 3 (!) analog sticks, LOL! New 3DS most hardcore handheld confirmed! :D

The MH4 Grip should definitely fit, since the 3DS XL and New 3DS XL are the same size, right?

Sorry if this was asked and answered previously in the thread, but is this the first time a newer iteration of a console has been bigger and heavier than the old model..?

God damn, missed this completely. Awesome!!

My question is, how many euromonies will I get for my mint black 3DS XL.

Other question - can I sell it now provided I keep the memory card?

I didn't, and most people won't either. Just because members from Gaf know the difference, doesn't mean little Jimmy that wants that New 3DS game that he is oh so looking forward to play on his OG 3DS is gonna know the difference either. It's the same situation with the Wii and Wii U

You realize that the Wii U branding issue is a big problem with the non-gaf audience, right? I know a ton of people who thought Wii U was just a Wii add on because of the dumb name. I want to see if they keep the 'LL' name here in the west.

I don't understand, so will they be making games that use the new buttons/sticks and therefore the previous 3DS users won't be able to play?

I bought a 3DS XL just a month ago. I see a console specifially geared towards my Monster Hunter addiction and I all I can think about is how soon can I get one? I am so glad I never got a new xbox, playstation, or a vita. I'll use all the money I saved by not getting those to go all in on this new 3DS. Will it be another $300? God I hope not.
