Rumour is better cameras, laminated screen, thinner body, Touch ID and 2 gigs of ram. Should be a fantastic update. I've been waiting for a laminated screen on iPads since iPad 1.

I guess LCD-glass lamination would also bring back som of that "hard tactile feel" which I reckon the first-gen iPad had much more of than the later models, with their still-thinner cover glass.

Not that the "screen drumming" on iPad Air is necessarily bad I guess, I really found the "granite feel" of the first-gen glass satisfying though, especially for typing. Somewhat a preference thing obviously. Might feel more like that again now if it's been made into one solid mass.

that 5c man, so ugly with those terrible cases. they just cant do budget very well, forget about it.

Gruber's quote is very interesting. I feel like we will be seeing a lot of backlash from the wearable. I remember my Facebook and just people in general when the iPad was announced. They kept on saying it was pretty much just a big iPod touch/iphone. I'm definitely not saying everything apple does is a success but it's kind of funny when people question one of the most successful companies of all time. Especially with a product launch like this. It isn't going to be some half assed attempt at a product like the galaxy gear. They've been working on it for years and it's finally ready for the light of day.

i think this tweet probably nails it:

I agree with @Gruber. Wearable will be controversial because it will be lousy at what we expect and great at what we don’t yet appreciate.

And the follow-up:

@JohnKirk And conversely, all smart watches we’ve seen to date have been uncontroversial because they’re what we expect but pointless.

It'll probably have the same reaction the iPad did maybe even worse.

wearables has the possibility to be something that has emergent behaviour from it - you don't know the real value until you start to use it. But there are so many variables. Do Apple go for a fitbit style data capture only device, something with simple notifications, or a full on siri-embedded voice controlled thing. And will it look like a watch or look like something based on its function? Jony Ive is all for simplicity so maybe he'll reject forcing it into a classical analog watch form

going to be fascinating to see. Personally I like the watch form, but would prefer simple notifications and comprehensive data gathering from sensors.

Jesus Chris still not even 1080p? 1gb ram, what is this a phone from 2012?

I dont know if you are trolling or being serious. The iPhone 5S has 512mb and runs games much smoother than any android with more ram than that... even better than quad cores, shield tablets,... its all down to optimization, you can have better specs but its really the OS and how its optimized the one who dictates the final result.... and Apple is the king here.

And for 1080, with a 4.7 or 5.5 screen wont be necessary, its will be a vacuum cleaner for the battery, and we dont need that. We want better battery life.

Except that the 5s have 1GB of ram.

It has 1gb my man...

You don't need 1080p for a 4.7 inch display, 720p is good. The RAM I agree on, they really should bump it up to 2gb even though the OS is very optimised. It'll suck if only the bigger iPhone gets a RAM boost.

Which games run better on the 5S compared to the Note 3 or S5? also the screen on the 5 or the 5S isn't even HD.

My point is that is the optimization who has the final word. You can have a quad core phone with HD and 4gb of ram but no game will use its full power because its not optimized. Apple knows software very well and they dont need to bring that specs to compete, at least yet. Software is about 50% of the product. Most feature more specs but they forget about the OS... and HD... people hear words like "HD" and "Nvidia" and stuff like that and go crazy... you dont really need all that on a cellphone... dont give in so easily to media...

Oh please.

Who needs 1080p on a phone. It's as ridiculous as people wanting 4K displays on laptops.

Some things are just completely unnecessary. It'll just sap more battery life and raise costs for nothing.

The RAM is definitely a joke though. That's something that does make a difference.

Either add more RAM or find a way to stop the bullshit Safari tab/app refreshing. Completely ruins the smartphone experience.

If it's only 1GB, it'll probably lack in the multitasking department somewhat. Was kind of hoping Apple would mimic Samsung's multi app split screen functionality. The bigger these mobile phone screens get, the more useful the app is.

I just pointed out the 'HD' because the iPhone screens being low res also saves power to be used for games.

I don't really get the criticism. When the iPad launched, it was not a good product and certainly not the product I love now. Better than the competition, yes, but not good. It was a big iPod touch and it was limited in its capabilities (didn't even support multi tasking at launch, but who needs that…). It wasn't until the second generation, when the iPad became a viable product for a lot of people. The same can be said about the iPhone and I expect the same from Apple's wearable. Better than the competition right now (which, again, is laughable), but not really good until next year.

Of course I'm absolutely ready to eat some big fat crow in about 5 hours, if it turns out to be more than a first gen product.

So wait... will there be an actually twitch stream of todays event? If so does anyone have the link, I can;t seem to find any information about this anywhere....

1080p on 5"+ phones is noticeable. I messed around with the G3 and it looks like above that isn't too noticeable, although that is a gorgeous screen on it.

Will probably be an unofficial one. Wait until the conference starts.

The iPhone 6 is by far the most expensive phone out there. To have specs that are extremely outdated (1GB RAM, 720p screen ~326ppi) is unacceptable. 4K is useless, but the new standard is ~420-440ppi. 2GB RAM would help the OS overall and multi-tasking.
