Apple Special Event - 9.9.14 - "Wish we could say more"

That would be a little awkward.

You just walk into the convention hall in the middle of Cook's keynote and shout that your credit card is ready.

He'd probably tell you that that's nice and all, "But the iPhone isn't out until next week."

Then they'd kick you out.

Come back next year and throw $600 in dollar bills on the stage to see if that works instead.

You can't connect your MacBook Pro to your television?

You're doing it wrong.

I bought an hdmi out cable for it awhile ago. I'll probably dig it out and connect the whole thing, yes. It's still terrible.

and you don't own an apple tv because?

lol

I have one. I haven't had it connected for nearly two years because it's terrible, and wastes an HDMI slot on my television. I say this as a happy owner of an MBP, 5S and a 3rd gen iPad. The Apple TV was a highly regretted purchase.

Regardless, still psyched for this.

my last minute predictions:

iPhone 6: 4.7 inch, A8
$199 16 GB, $299 32 GB, $399 64 GB, $499 128 GB,

iPhone 6 Plus: 5.5 inch, A8
$299 16 GB, $399 32 GB, $499 64 GB, $599 128 GB,

iWatch, 2 sizes:

1.3 inch - $349
1.5 inch - $399

available in different colors to match the iPhone, plus interchangeable straps.

Still do bot understand the iTV rumors or why Apple would ever get into such a pointless low margin business.

I've said from the start they'll never release a TV, I'd probably wager money they don't. Even if the idea was thrown around at one point any serious look at the TV industry would have Apple running for the hills.

Aside from smart TV's just not making much sense in general. Makes so much more sense for a component connected to the TV to handle those features... For an endless array of reasons.

iTV was just the original name for Apple TV, it was changed due to being a broadcaster in the UK.

Apple making televisions has always been just speculation.

Is there a prayer of an update to the iPod Classic or am I fucked forever, and 160GB is all I will ever get in a standalone music player?

I would love to see them do one more iPod Classic refresh before killing it off entirely. Bump up the storage to around 500 GB, make the screen huuuuuge with a smaller click wheel (but still comfy to use), a camera, a few other iPhone/Pad features and give the iPod Classic a good send off.

Just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's other stuff they could do but it would be nice to let the legacy live on a little longer than have it just fade away.

They are pimping the shit out of this.

Well this is the first test of Cook's Apple as it were. They only enter a new market every few years, so there's a lot riding on this.

I expect we'll still see some Steve would be rolling in his grave posts though.

The iwatch's main focus will most likely be health and fitness, which will probably disappoint some people but would please me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had plans for a watch during Steve's reign. Much like the iPad, once they started working with touchscreens, it would opened the doors to a few new products, and obviously Steve acquired Siri too, so they were already thinking about voice command which would be key for a highly functional smart watch.

Is that confirmed? If so....yikes.
why is it yikes? 1gb was apparently outdated when the 5S had that much. Did ANYONE feel the effect of it....ever. Whatever is in there will EASILY be enough to run the next 2 years of software.

Man if all people complain about is ram....at an iphone event....you know apple did well :P

It is as good as for one of the models. For all of them? STAY TUNED.

Multitasking and reloading Safari tabs make me sure I'll need more RAM to go back to iPhone. Not only that, but how about they allow app and game developers to push the margins slightly?

have you used a 5s though? It's fine. Works perfectly. I think most devs don't mind having the same amount to work with at the least. I'm just saying complaining about RAM on an iOS device is plaaaaaaayed. Happens every.single.year. And this is from someone with multiple android devices filled with RAMz.

That's what I expect. I don't have any plans to buy a wearable but I'm very interested to see what they're making.

My iPad runs fine on 1GB. But I just can't see ios8 being dependent on 1GB for the next 2 years.

Yeah, RAM's a non-issue at the moment expect for the iPads when split screen multitasking comes in.

Reloading Safari Tabs is the worst. Does Chrome or another browser not do that?

It's especially bad when like confirming your login on a random site with a text and then having to copy and paste and it reloads and messes it all up.

Apple making televisions has always been just speculation.

I'm aware it's speculation. I'm saying it's bad speculation; go back a year and everyone and their mother was talking about it like it was definitely a product in development.

I'm wondering if they will explicitly mention the RAM capacity. Otherwise we'll have to wait for the benchmarks and/or tear-downs to know for certain, I guess.

The only thing I care about is the bump in baseline storage. I do the standard two year upgrade (which falls on the S years for me. The iphone hasn't been exciting since the 4 reveal imo, so I just mindlessly upgrade to not have a shitty slow phone every 2 years) so saving $100 with the 32GB model would be nice. I dropped down to 16GB for my 5c compared to my 32GB 4S and it is brutal. I figured with Spotify I would be fine, but between a very modest amount of apps, a few podcasts and sparse photos, I have to play the space clearing game for every minor OS hotfix and update.

If they want to pretend the SSD upgrades in their macs are actually that expensive, fine, SSDs are still relatively new for most users, however, flash storage in a cell phone is fucking old as dirt. Stop pretending 16GB is enough for users these days and that going to 32GB warrants a 100$ increase and another 32GB to 64GB is another $100. That is mental.

32GB needs to be the baseline of all iPhones and 64GB of all iPads. It isn't 2007 anymore.

Do you honestly think Apple hasn't thought of this though? The company that obsessed over everything and controls everything to the finest detail?

Only time they have had issues was getting their biggest software update in years to run on old devices that were at least 2/3 years old and even then they resolved it (sort of lol).

I'm also a believer that when actual multi tasking arrives on iOS it will be ipad only (possibly 5.5).
