Bungie speaks out on Destiny review delay.

I've been watching mostly the GameSpot stream and everything screams Halo under a new prettier skin. I've seen all these movements and effects before.

Yeah, it's not looking compelling to me.

Looking forward to player impressions of the full game.

it's the hot new way to dismiss people who you disagree with without actually engaging with their comments

No, it's an actual thing where people indirectly criticize something by raising disingenuous concerns. It's not new.

So there will be a Destiny 2,3 and 4? i thought they want to add more content via DLC. Anyway i still can't see it.

I'd imagine future Destiny games would look a bit like the standalone campaigns of the Guild Wars series. Characters will definitely carry over and there would be new end-game content, but each is also a potential starting point for new characters with added races/classes available.

Aren't there going to be reviews popping up as soon as it is midnight, or no?
If so it's not like those people were playing through all the content when the game was already released, so what would be the difference in having the embargo be before release?

So much doom and gloom. I literally just preordered about an hour ago. Lol...I enjoyed the Alpha and Beta. The game definitely has room to improve but still..,all this concern is starting to infect me lol

I don't mind the delay - because we all got a chance to do a mini-review of our own with the massively public alpha and beta. Maybe more than any console game release, we've got a good idea of what we're buying.

You obviously didn't read my comments then because I did address every quote and didn't just throw out the term. There are people who don't want this game to be good and will dismiss legittamate claims because they want the worst. It's TLOU:R all over again but worse because people have actually played this game and liked what they played.

Normally I'd think "No early review copies - must be a disaster!"

But we had two opportunities to play this game.

It plays exactly like Halo when in the missions, eerily so. So take that as good or bad

After a day of playing I do not understand the excuse used (or rather I do) , the odd person I see in world every now or then had no bearing on my gameplay as you cannot even speak or chat with them if you wanted to.

Also you cannot chat with anyone outside of your fireteam anywhere (including PVP), it is the most antisocial, social game around :P

All in all a good game, but with the impossible to live up hype it falls way short of what Halo or CoD:MW, ect.. achieved for their respective times on consoles (imo)

It's nothing like halo.

It's a little like Halo; specifically Reach. Standard running and jumping are the same as Reach and so is the grenade throw and the reticule bloom. But Destiny starts to differentiate itself from Reach by having aim down sights, super moves, unique melee attacks and elemental attributes that are applied to weapons and supers (after you develop them). I like to think of it as a mutated Halo Reach.

My concern isn't that it doesn't play well, its that with only five locations the game itself will feel like an expansion pack and not a full game.

I usually am not an hour counter but in a go to the same location ten times mmo structure five locations seems very very inadequate.

Oh man. This post has restored my faith in Destiny. Halo reach was easily one of my most favorite games last gen. A spiritual successor to Halo reach is really all I wanted from Bungie.

4 out of the 5 location you have in the game are pretty big though.

Are there any reviews up yet?

I hope the reviews hold off until at least Thursday next week. Week to get through everything offered right now, and a couple of days to do their thing with articles/videos.

Would be surprised if they waited that long though, but not as surprised as I would be if they waited for next week's unlocking of the raid before finalizing reviews.

I think I fell too hard for the hype. Game is very disappointing to me.

I expect this to be the prevailing sentiment toward this game as the reviews and impressions roll out. It's fun but really barebones. It's like Bungie made the engine and core gameplay then said fuck it, let's just sell this and not bother with the rest. It's a kind of mutant Halo/Borderlands/WoW without any of the charm of those games.

I don't know why people keep referring to that contract since its the same one that had this game as a timed Microsoft exclusive.

Being cross-gen is SUPER limiting to what they could potentially do with this franchise. If they decide not to release any sequels and simply pump this one release with DLC, that would be a very bad thing as this gameplay that was designed for 256mb VRAM and 256MB system RAM would feel extremely dated in a few years. Based on some reports, it feels dated already.

They need to be free to explore the compute power and vast amounts of RAM and graphics pushing power of current gen without the shackles of last gen. The only way to accomplish that is with sequels.

This franchise has so much potential, but last gen shackles would kill the franchise unless they eventually can break free.

Because people can't believe someone isn't all aboard the hype train. I hope the reviews are good because this place will be a shit show if the scores aren't outstanding.
Fuck that man. Have you seen GAF during one of those moments?! It's quite something.

I think we have a better idea of why there was no pre launch reviews. Would have killed the hype surrounding the game.

Yep. Now that we live in a era where reviewers stopped giving AAA games an instant pass, Destiny is likely to settle among the low 80s when all is said and done. They had to be aware of this, and there's no way this wasn't a calculated move to put that off until they could collect their first day sales.

There has been nothing shown in the game so far to suggest that reviews couldn't experience it on their own with other reviews populating the servers.

I agree with this. It's still fun at its core though.

It's GAF, never too busy for GAF.

Yeah I guess so. But I think a lot of the people who really like the game are posting on that thread to discuss in game things like what they just did or how hard their last encounter was. Things like asking questions about how to do/get something, or just mentioning what they just got for loot. A lot of them also seem to be organizing fire teams and trying to organize parties. So basically, they aren't really posting their review/impressions of the game. But I haven't been keeping up with that thread a lot so I might just be flat out wrong.

I honestly can't tell if you kept a straight face when you typed the words "Most likely".

I did. Kind of like this.

I am wondering where the reviews will land on this one.

I played the alpha and loved the game. The beta came around and it killed all the hype I had for the game. I guess I had expected a bit more variety with a little more meat to the world. I still picked it up and I’m not sure what has changed but I’m enjoying it. Perhaps the beta lowered my expectations of what the game would be.

It is not the next gen experience I had hoped for at this time last year, but it’s far from a terrible game as well. If you are unsure on the game and need something to play until the October releases I would say you will get your fill from this game.

I imagine it will be firmly in the 8 out of 10 score range... GAF implode, doom will be proclaimed, millions will still buy, Destiny 2 will get made.
Since everyone who cares has played the game...I don't see any imploding coming unless the game still manages to get 10's. 7's and 8's seem reasonable from my 13 hours so far.
