DRIVECLUB: 30 minutes of new Beta footage

Anything over an 8/80 average for this game will just be great for a brand new racing IP. I don't expect it to be perfect, just a fun game and hopefully a good foundation for a Driveclub 2 that can build on everything it does.

Regardless I'm not too worried about scores themselves, I'm already convinced I will like this game.

I don't know what's this, links go to Facebook, a car rental service?
This is some marketing material from PlayStation Benelux (Benelux stands for Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourg, in case you wonder), that's offering winners prizes related to supercars (one prize is a driving lesson, but they're mostly trips as a passenger).

Anyway, I love this kind of humour.

Good.

Also, reading Forza reviews, the one off review came from Polygon, which did regard the original Forza series for being a better game for not being open world.

The criticism seemed to be about the open world not being up to the reviewer's standard, and then calling upon the closed tracks of Forza....

I however, can't see DC reviewers giving negative reviews for the game NOT being open world and I'm actually surprised that so many are preparing for that expectation.

When I look at these games, I expect reviewers to review what the game has been promised to be. Driveclub has never been open world, and regardless of Forza, that does not mean that people wont adjust... nor does it mean those who review DC have played Forza.

Has there ever been an example of this with reviews in the past?

You guys are making me worried :(

Just stop worrying about reviews, buy the game or play the Plus version, and determine whether you like it yourself. I haven't read a single review or even seen scores for Destiny, yet i'm loving it. I know that they're supposedly not so good, but I don't really give a shit because I like it.

It's not that I won't like the game based on reviews, but I did expect it to score well, and this idea that it wont based on the fact that Forza is out at the same time is surprising to me.

It's more that I'm worried about the fallout/reasoning about the reviews, because it just makes no sense to me that reviewers would openly bash the game for not being open world.

I'd take circuit racers over open world racers any day. For me, open world racers become incredibly tedious early on.

umm.. probably when the game comes out?

As far as I know something like Horizon 2s early review embargo is pretty rare. The norm would be on first/NA release date. I might be wrong, since like many in this thread, I usually dont care much for reviews.

I will buy it even if it gets a 50, haha. I'm just interested in seeing the reviews (and the reactions) :P

It isn't that they would bash it for not being open world for not being open world's sake, it is that they may find the experience of an open world racer to be more satisfying to them, and therefore find that DRIVECLUB is perhaps say more limiting and, no pun intended, one track minded.

A reviewer may ask themselves having just played/reviewed/enjoyed Horizon, if this game was open world would it be a better game for it? And if their conclusion is yes then they may then knock it down a touch.

so I get to play #Driveclub, The Order, BLOODBORNE. So that's awesome. I'll update y'all on how concerned you should be about the game. Unless it's a super old build. It probably is. I'll ask when I get up there. Maybe I should skip playing it cuz I already have it pre-ordered. Don't want to ruin it for myself right?

It could be an old build. You could play it to get a feel for the cars, but you'll want a few goes, because the demo races are quite short. But ignore any image quality issues as they may be affected by the age of the demo (handling shouldn't be as long as it isn't too old)

and definitely go and see bloodborne if you get a chance.

On the plus side, with the accessibility of the PS+ version, if any game has a chance to be successful on its own, this is it. Even if the reviews end up being less positive, people will have exposure to it if it's their sort of thing. I don't think negative reviews will effect it's long term sales, since that's more down to the community and the content itself. I'm totally into this generation.

I feel like it needs help. Either that or a big banner urging people to try the free version.

It will probably sell pretty bad due to PS+ version.

I don't think there are enough PS+ subscribers to make a huge difference, and it is essentially a teaser for the game.

I think it will not sell well for NPD, we'll have a few threads of "Will Evo be closed down?", then a statement from Sony post-Christmas that it's sold well over a million (because of Europe).

I don't know. PS4 gamers need a racing game and DriveClub is scratching the itch.

I'm buying it, and 6 of my friends are buying it aswell.
Which makes the 6 players by club limitation a real pain for us

True. Screw gaming media reviews, it's hard to tell who has an agenda and who doesn't. I much rather do word of mouth, and then use my judgement with video clips and such.

Yep, pretty much what I'm expecting .

That or 'Digital million seller' headlines and lots of earnest articles about new release paradigms and how right Sony were to do the PS+ 'demo'.

It'll set things up nicely for DC2. PS+ version is a good way for Evo to introduce a new racing franchise to millions, while still offering a full version for those that see the value in owning it.

I'm pretty confident it'll be a healthy franchise, I LOVED the beta.

Just do weekly or monthly time trials, and the person who is the slowest gets cut from the team for that time period.

Yes it's unfortunate but a lot seem to be like the drive-by trolls we get here sometimes.

To clarify, I don't mean it won't sell well, just that it won't do well in the charts. There's going to be a lot of people going the digital route because of the PS+ version and a lot of charts don't track that. The best barometer for how this game will sell will probably have to come from Sony PR themselves so they can include stats about the digital version.

This is probably a contradiction to stuff I've said in the past but do people really take reviews seriously these days?

When you have the likes of Polygon, or 'big' sites rushing out reviews of games they've barely played just so they can be relevant etc.

Games reviews these days are mostly just a first impressions. You can't give an accurate assessment of a game if you've just rush-completed it in 24-hours. You need at least a week with a SHORT game let alone something with lots of content.

Don't know if I should take a £170 gamble on Logitech/Sony getting their shit together and buying a new G27 wheel for this. Already have the DFGT but would be a nice upgrade if I knew it would work.

For this?

Right now that wouldn't be a very good idea at all. If you don't want to fork out for a T300 just wait for a bit.

A little OT but just a quick question.

I decided to put my ps4 vertical and I haven't got a stand for it yet but it seems stable without one;Do I need to get one?
