Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Claim of parity with games before and everyone says yeah right fanboy conspiracy....

Developer admits parity and people are still in denial.

I wonder if this kind of attitude by developers is caused because of the "resolutiongate" bullshit that begin with this generation.

Cant remember people freking out because a game was same res on 360 and PS3
And the same thing if it wasn't...

Anyway, go play the game!

Loved black flag on PS4 and completed it which is a novelty for me.

Was looking forward to this but there is no way I'm buying a game that is being deliberately held back. Thanks Ubi you've just saved me £45

I can't buy this, cos then I'm saying it's OK, vote with your wallet if unhappy

I can't imagine how GAF would react if the Division was 792p for both PS4 and X1......oh dear lord. Sad part is, Microsoft have a marketing deal for that game as well. Hopefully Massive isn't prone to such bullshit anti-consumerism.

People act like this is a horrible case of anti consumerism. It isn't.

It's stupid. But that's about it.

It is a horrible case of anti consumerism. They are intentionally downgrading or limiting a game at the behest of a massive portion of their consumer Base, ironically their largest consumer base.

Wouldn't surprise me. That's a MS-comarketed game too, I believe.

If sales are disappointing for AC:U, I'd imagine Ubisoft would be smart to realize this played at least some kind of hand in this, and not go with this line of thinking again.

If sales exceed expectations, though, regardless of gimping a platform, there's no reason for them to stop.

Exactly what I feared when we originally heard the PS4/XB1 specs early last year. This game was a 'Maybe' on PS4 for me. Now it's a definite no purchase. Have to completely reject this practice from Ubi.

Haha, funny considering all of the denials about "parity" being a thing, and now Ubi just outright admits it.

Welcome to a videogame industry with Microsoft in it people.

You can smell MS, money and desperation all over this.

Also Ubisoft harming the customers from the biggest next gen markets share is something I hope comes back on them.

Stop passing on the consumers who buy the majority of your next gen titles.

I hope this blows up and forces a u turn.

This thread right now:

People who realize its anti-consumer action: "This is bullshit"

PC elites: "Sucks to be you guys. Running it at 1440p. "

Phil Spencer/People who only have an Xbox/Fanboys/don't get it: "Why is everyone overreacting? Why does the resolution matter that much?"

This is what you really meant. Admit it. :)

Chill? Reminds me of the "rational" gamers that were saying chill after the X1 reveal and DRM plans.

No. Don't chill. Raise hell in a constructive manner. Spread the word. Cause a stink. Let Ubi feel the heat, just like MS felt it after seeing the preorder numbers when word got out about their original plans...

Very well put. Being "chill" will just make this shit more likely to happen.

I can't justify giving my money to a company that is practicing this shit. I will eventually buy secondhand on all of their releases from now on.

I know the difference isn't huge, it's the principal.

46 pages on GAF in a few hours.

5-8% of the populace.

So many delusional people sticking up for bullshit yet again. This shit depresses me so much. You people are singing consumer rights away a bit at a time every time you defend garbage policies like these.

You do realize that Assassin's Creed tend to sell around 10 million copies. Even if every person on Gaf was a portion of that and decided not to buy a game, they would be losing like 2% of their sales at most. And obviously we care about this stuff a lot more here than the mainstream consumers do.

Didn't Cerny say that the PS4 was designed so that the GPU could be used to offload some of the CPU stuff? If I remember correctly, this was something that the developers would learn to do when they were more familiar with the hardware?

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing this in one of the conferences he gave.

Yeah GPU compute. But PS4 won't be computing shit with all this parity.

I'm glad Ubisoft have decided to do this as it's obviously stopped the discussion dead.

*crickets*

It's a shame Ubisoft didn't take this into consideration when PS3 users had to put up with inferior multi-platform ports.

Came expecting some discussion of the CPU-bound explanation.

My expectations were wayyyyy too high :/

Increasing resolution can impact the framer ate. If true, continue.

Increasing CPU load can impact the frame rate. If true, continue.

Assume program is CPU bound. This means any more load will reduce the frame rate below acceptable target.

Assume GPU is not at 100% capacity.

If you now increase the GPU load by increasing resolution, frame rate will now drop below acceptable levels.

Therefore, it is possible that this particular program cannot be run at a higher resolution even though its GPU is not being used to max effect.

But it is more fun to meltdown and post gifs of money.

If no clue, dont post.

Despicable on Ubisofts part, we knew it was happening but to say it out right.

Something tells me you could benefit from some fresh air and a walk in the park or something. You in particular seem to be taking this way too personally.

This is not the end of the world. It's one publisher deciding to do one thing with one game.

There is absolutely no sign that other publishers will follow suit.

That same argument was used for the Xbox One DRM.

Guess where a lot of game blogs get their news and opinions?

Here. This site is far more influential than you know.

It's entirely likely they figured GAF would overreact like usual. I highly doubt they give much of a shit about this thread.
That makes no sense. That's not a calculated risk. There was no incentive for him to say that, the guy just put his foot in his mouth. Social media are unpredictable and there's no business person worth their salt that would say in 2014 "well, it will die in 2 hours". No one knows and no one wants to find out how much a misstep would cost them.

This is just a roundabout way for you to say you don't think it's very important, which is okay, no need to presume on what some external authority might think.

How can you possibly be this naive?

The gap between PS360 games was never as big as PS4/XB1. .
Uh yeah they were, maybe bigger .. until much much later in the generation.
It doesn't excuse Ubi from purposely gimping one version for parity with another but likely the huge differences in a multitude of games last gen is partly the reason for this 'gimping'

Congratulations Ubi, I am canceling my pre-order.

Might buy the PC version down the line unless your port is complete shit again.

It isnt, looking a few feet away at a computer screen you can see the slightly more blurry image of 900p vs 1080p depending on the game (the new lord of the rings games the 900p difference is less pronounced due to the AA method).

When viewing from 5-8ft in 40'' tv I cant tell the difference between 900p vs 1080p, It is less of a difference then many PS3 vs 360 games, that did have noticeable problems when viewing from 5-8ft on a 40'' tv.

The only games that have a big as a difference as 360 vs ps3 games is cod ghosts BF4 and MGS:GZ.

360 was the defacto multiplat console to go to last gen. Where a lot of games did have noticeable graphical shortcomings on the PS3 version which did make it a less enjoyable experience
This gen its not the case aside from cod ghosts and to a lesser extent BF4 and MGS:GZ .

Bottomline is when i watch the DF + gamesyde videos of recent games on my gaming TV I can only see the difference when the pointed out to me, going back and forth between X1 and PS4 videos I cant tell the difference.

Harvey Eagle? Is that you?

So that explains why you pre ordered it. I still don't think it takes out my entire post.

Whatever, I'll just continue to sit on the sideline and watch the show.

You can think it doesn't take out your post all you want. Why are you acting like I owe Ubisoft a purchase? Resolution matters to me, I play on a 60" screen. If the Xbox One version was 1080p and the PS4 version was 900p I would buy the X1 version.

I don't approve of their decisions and thus won't pick the game up at launch.

Please explain to me where I owe it to Ubisoft to un-cancel my pre-order?

this isn't surprising at all, as far as i know there is no video of the game being played on ps4, every video released have been on xbone, i will probably buy the game when it drops to 30 or so, resolution does not affect that much as long as the framerate is stable without tearing

This logic makes my blood boil every time I see it. People said the same thing about the Xbox DRM: "Oh, only people on hardcore forums care! They're only a small percentage and the mainstream won't notice anyways!"

Such bullshit.
