A "combat systems designer" for some unknown company making a FPS PC game ( not even a console game ) is now someone how the hero of the internet? I doubt this kid even understands 3D engines, console development, and flat out used this as a way to make his game known.
I have no interest in his shitty fps, or the Ubi game, but the way i see it is 3D engines can have fluctuating bottlenecks. It's not the same issue throughout an entire game on every frame. Part could be bottle-necked by CPU, parts could take a hit on both CPU and GPU. It's certainly not so cut and dry in every game. So while in theory PS4 could run at 1080, that doesn't mean it's automatically possible without a increase in bandwidth that could be detrimental to hitting staying at 30fps, or causing more bottlenecks in other areas. We simply don't know their bandwidth usage, we don't know anything about their game engine or what they are pushing! Shit, there's so many ways to create a bottleneck, the issues could be numerous. Yet this turned into a huge controversy and again neogaf lead the way. This guy could lose his job because armchair developers started a fucking boycott of a game he's been working on for years. For what reason is this permitted to continue?
I don't have all the answers as I haven't seen profile data from their game, but I've seen many armchair developers start huge threads regarding console performance, and hardware over the past 12-13 years, with many of the assumptions not being based on anything more then opinion or gang mentality. In this instance without graphical data on the profiling of their game, there really is no right or wrong answer on if its possible to hit 1080p or not. I can't see the controversy changing, but it's gotten worse then it once was around here.
It's a fucking game, a resolution bump won't change how it plays, and barely changes how it looks.
