That's the thing. I've studied it and it's becoming more and more clear that they can do nothing about their orientation, but that doesn't mean that it should be normalized. Like I said in the thread, my sympathy is reserved entirely for those pedophiles who don't predate, and don't jerk it to child porn, real or fictional.
I think the
German Prevention Project Dunklefeld is probably the best way to approach it. There's no mandatory report law in Germany, and the project is designed to reach out to pedophiles and get them into treatment. Treatment is important, because it can mean the difference between an active and passive pedophile. There's substantial evidence that suggests once a pedophile crosses the line and acts out that there's little left that can help. The best evidence suggests that reaching pedophiles before they first act out with children can either postpone or remove the likelihood that they will.
There's no way to come out of this discussion without feeling dirty, but it's an important one, because pedophiles not receiving therapy are at a much higher risk for acting out with children. So the very act of frightening pedophiles away from therapy helps produce the societal outcome we don't want, which is more kids suffering.
