I think Sony would be looking at studios with global appeal.
You know, for return on investment etc.
They should just buy Suda 51 and get him to work on Fire Pro wrestling.

Do you know definitely whether Sony actively assessed whether to acquire Crytek, or are you surmising from Tidux's vague tweets?

Sony schould buy Mistwalker and let Sakaguchi create the #FinalFantasyKiller
Neither. I assume based on my own professional experience that when a company is up for sale, all other companies in related industries with the sufficient financial capabilities would at least do their homework and check in on the situation to see if there's a buying opportunity there that makes sense for them. It's standard business protocol.
Party Wave 2 on PSM
Well, you're right.
But, I don't think Sony would have any interest in acquiring Crytek for their game portfolio.
Their value would be in tech like CryEngine.
You know who Sony should buy? A fricken Japanese studio for once.

That'd be nice, but I doubt Sakaguchi would go for that. He started Mistwalker so he can be the boss and do whatever he wants. I don't think he wants to work for a corporation ever again.

Yes, please. Level 5, FROM software, Hironobu Sakaguchi´s team.

But didnt Sakaguchi have some Problems with the Sony CEO in the past?? Are there still problems or is everything cleared
Why else didnt he bring out a single Playstation Game in the past years?
But Microsoft and Nintendo got some titles....

I know it's weak speculation, started by Tidux no less, but if Sony were to buy Crytek then that would be a really dumb fucking decision on their part. There's a multitude of better ways to spend your money.
Q-Games?You know who Sony should buy? A fricken Japanese studio for once.
Then Futurlab and Housemarque.Sony thinks about buying some teams?
Well firstly, they need to cover the Quantic Dream and Ready at Dawn. After that, they need to go back in time and purchase Vigil.
T_T
If Sony want to buy a studio then they should buy Hello Games. Those guys are on the very cusp of breakout success. It's plain to see they're going places once No Man's Sky is out.
There was a rumor that Sony tried to buy Hello Games right before No Man's Sky announcement but they wanted to release the PC version. But if Hello Games can't get the game running to how they want and they get help from Sony's external devs then it would be exclusive.
IGA comes to mind, he is frustrated that he was unable to make a good 3D game yet, what better candidate than Japan Studio to collaborate on a 3D title
Well...
Back in the early days of the PS3 he was asked why he isn't making games for it and he said it was because the architecture is tricky and because he doesn't like Kutaragi. Kutaragi's gone and the PS4 is easy to develop for. But who knows if there will ever be a collaboration between Sony and Mistwalker. There really hasn't been any talk of that since Sakaguchi made those comments.
Asked if there was a chance to see a new The Last Story game , Sakaguchi-san answered in English “Ok, yeah, you talk to Nintendo.”
Then the moderator of the panel asked who in the audience would want to see a sequel of The Last Story on Wii U, and while the audience cheered and applauded, Sakaguchi-san added, again in English, “And maybe PlayStation 4 too?”/
Edit: It may have been that ^^^^^^Back in the early days of the PS3 he was asked why he isn't making games for it and he said it was because the architecture is tricky and because he doesn't like Kutaragi. You guys are crazy if you are expecting anything significant from this.
Looking at Sony's studios they have 5 NA based (althought their 1 development helping studio recently made CounterSpy? Maybe they'll turn into active development)5 EU based(albeit one of their studios was transformed to sister studio), but only 2 Japan based. Yeah, they could use Japanese one.
...But I dont think there are viable studios buy at the moment. :/
What would there be?They missed a chance with Atlus.
Sony has a reputation that is quite different to Square when it comes to handling their dev studios. I think he wouldn´t mind having the backing of Sony for creating his next projects, as well as the backing of ICE.
Who the heck is FlamingHawk?!
That's very interesting if true though.
Yes, in the vein of Celebrity Deathmatch - it can be Gaming Personalities Deathmatch.
The announcer from Mortal Kombat will introduce the ''fighters'' - first fight will be the return of Don Mattrick and Jack Tretton to beat the crap outta eachother for what went down at E3 2013.

It's not typical of Sony to acquire a studio if they don't already have a long working relationship together, so aside from From Software and perhaps Level 5 that kind of excludes most Japanese studios (and I know From are no longer independent).
Myself, were I looking to buy a Japanese developer, I would give serious consideration to Matrix Software, Platinum (obviously), Silicon Studios and Acquire. Acquire because I think they make the foundations of good games (Way of the Samurai, Shinobido), but they need more money and direction to build the framework on top. Japan Studios could provide that direction IMO.
Lol I'm no one. The rumor is coming from this.

However they took that down, but in the article it said something like this which is a quote I found trying to find the article.
Capcom is the one I would be looking at, so many great IPs.
It's worth noting that Sony has multiple teams inside many of their studios, which I think is more efficient for managing operating costs and also management among the divisions and sharing code and workload.
Would be insanely expensive and I doubt Sony is in a position to do it even if they wanted to, financially speaking
I think you're all looking into this a little too much. I'm not sure where the rumour originates from or from what time, but I'm guessing it's due to the issues Crytek has been having this year. Seems like a lot of folks jumping the gun about something which isn't true. Please don't be Crytek.
Anything but Crytek. If that is all they can buy they are better not buying anything. Best idea is to pretend they are interested in Crytek to see if MS will fall for it and spend unnecessary money.

How much ballpark would Capcom be worth in an acquisition deal?
Lol I'm no one also definitely not a "insider", just part of this forum. The rumor is coming from this.

"There seems to be a rumor right now that No Man's Sky will be console exclusive to PS4 indefinitely just like Transistor. The rumor also states that Sony and Hello Games were in active discussion about Sony acquiring the studio but it seems those plans have stalled for now. Yet, Hello Games seems to be working closely with Media Molecule so there may still be a chance that relations improve and a new deal could be made."
^-----That quote is not from the article but from a forum post that describes what the article is talking about since it was taken down.
Holy shit, I just noticed it said Media Molecule.....

Could Media Molecules new IP been what Sean Murray was talking about? @TheSakeDiary is also followed by Media Molecule.
