So what does she actually think BP is going to do in these movies? Like, is he gonna be slapping the shit out of all the hapless white victims the Avengers send his way during the final fight scene? Gather em all in one spot and start undressing the white women with his eyes as building explode around them?

I mean, even being stupid, it really shouldn't be that hard to understand that he's not that type of Black Panther, right?

Right?

Here's a director pulled out of my ass: the guy who wrote and directed Fruitvale Station for no real reason other than he's young, black, obviously talented, and cheap.

What's wrong with him. Who would you prefer Tyler Perry?

He peaked 20 years ago. He's still living off the fumes of Boyz n tha Hood. If you are going for token black director who made a urban crime drama in the early 90s (which you don't to begin with), I'd rather have either of the Hughes Bros than Singleton.

You don't need to have a black director just because it's a black lead. Look at the script and find the best director to suit it.

I'd rather have the Russo brothers make this too. Cap 2 was the hotness and I could see their fight choreography doing good things for Black Panther.

i couldn't help but laugh when I saw people start mentioning Batman

This man put Silver Surfer in an armbar. Batman wishes he could be BP

Well, even if they don't direct the BP movie they will be directing his appearance in Civil War, which should lay the foundation for whoever takes over for the BP solo flick.

No, you don't but it's funny how the best director is always a white guy. Studios are giving unknown white directors opportunities to make movies all the time but it's impossible to find a non-white director?

Marvel should fuck over fox and cast Lupita Nyong'o as Shuri.

Cast the Williams sisters as the Dora Milaje (Okoye, Nareema).

Well we don't know how many black directors were lining up to direct Captain America or Thor, but it probably wasn't a lot. With Black Panther there will probably be a lot more interest in doing something like that, but who cares who it ends up being as long as we get the best movie possible, and I have faith in Feige making the right call and not just trying to play up the race aspect, just like I don't automatically expect him to cast a woman for Captain Marvel or Inhumans.

I'm not talking about Marvel, just Hollywood in general. Anytime someone brings up race as a factor in casting, directing, or whatever, we get this nonsense about how we don't need to look at that, we just need to look at the never-defined "best candidate" which always ends up being some white guy. I said earlier that I would like it if Gareth Evans directed and I'm not clamoring for them to get a black director just to have a black director but I am tired of seeing the same old white guy director over and over again.

Marvel has a chance to start a new franchise with a black leading character (which almost never happens) and, while it isn't necessary for my enjoyment of the movie, it would be cool to see a new franchise launched with non-white people at the forefront.

Yeah, there weren't a lot of minority directors trying to land one of the sweetest gigs in the business. Lmao.

If they're going to seek a black director then my money is on Antione Fuqua. He's an industry veteran, directs action well and he's attached to like a million projects anyways... So why not Black Panther as well?

He's not my favorite director in the world and I know a few people who hate him but he has shown that he can make some entertaining movies and with Feige running things, he won't go too far afield. The problem I have with him is that he's a little generic; I wanna see someone with a distinct style.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I've never heard of Chadwich Boseman, what work of his should I look into to see if I like this announcement?

Right?

If you're acting intentionally ignorantly it's not that hard to come to a kneejerk reaction about something you're unfamiliar with instead of researching and engaging.

With that said, though, when I first heard of the Black Panther when I was a kid my thoughts ran along similar lines. I didn't understand why they would name a character after a radical group often associated with violence and hate mongering.

He's in 42 and Get On Up. Both did surprisingly well.

Oddly enough, the character and the political party both started up in the same year...

Happy to have a Black Panther movie, but was really hoping we'd get a Blade reboot. The first two movies in that series were so damn good.

Blade 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think I've said this in some other thread but I need Guillermo Del Toro to come back and do another one.
