As long as stores want them I think Nintendo can and will spin up production runs but it might not be right away. I don't think they are trying to build rarity as much as conservative shipments. Without a doubt they seem to be more popular than expected.

I assume if they're not from Nintendo's A or S-tier franchises they'll be in limited production so I'm GUESSING Little Mac, Pit, and Captain Falcon. Why not just buy them all to be sure.
Dunno the runs yet but in order from most to least popular characters is probably something like:
- Luigi
- Zelda
- Diddy Kong
- Cpt. Falcon
- Pit
- Little Mac
Luigi will stick around, the rest are a toss-up.
If this pattern holds, that'll definitely be the case, perhaps with Diddy Kong suffering the same fate. At least people will have a second chance for Pit...
I'm thinking it will be the retailer exclusive ones: Lucario, Rosalina, Meta Knight, and Shulk.
Or at least one of those (with Lucario being the obvious choice since Toys R Us is so bad at online/store inventory.)
Edit: these are probably wave 3. I bet Pit will be the unwanted / unstocked one for wave 2.

My son tells me that you can take them to a friends to "level up".
I was wondering if I used one on my account and my son used a different one on his account (same Wii U obviously) would that be the same thing. My character vs his on his account and vice versa?

I bought a Japanese one on eBay last night for $24 + $6 shipping. Stupid price but reasonable considering how messed up the situation is.

The seller has 100 percent positive feedback with 255 transactions. I don't get it, why take a hit to your feedback like that? The person that buys it is almost guaranteed to feel ripped off and leave bad feedback. All for a few bucks. Ok then.

Just found kirby online for £14 my son will be happy, and the three "discontinued" ones at £12. Want to scalp them but I hate people that do that so I best not.

I went to a local market that's the only one selling Amiibos here. The only "discontinued" one they had was Marth and there were quite a lot of those. So I decided to grab one just in case I'd like to collect all of them in the future. But holy fuck at the quality of those things...I went through every Marth to find only one that's flawless! Every other had a crooked sword and those golden decorations in his shoulder, chest and shoes were beyond fucked up. No wonder they're getting discontinued.
Marth's dodgy quality is probably a very contributing factor to his removal. I don't know how he and Peach came out so wonky, when Link (another humanoid) came out quite well from the general I've seen and my own.

I'm not happy with the build quality at all, but from how they work in Smash I'm excited to see more. Its to the point where my Link Amiibo beats me in Smash (more then I want to admit) and the only thing that even challenges it anymore is an 8 player Smash where its 7 Lv 9 CPU's vs 1. I hoping they improve the quality in the next waves because I really wanted a Marth but he looks terrible so I'm passing, really hoping for Lucina.

Have you never collected anything? The quality of the item matters. As for expectations of quality based on price, consider Beanie Babies which were the equivalent price adjusted for inflation. They were noted for their quality in both design and execution, making them irresistible to many.
