Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer: English Voices

Jump Festa and the stream are Japan. We will probably not hear anything else until close to the demo launch (since that's apparently dubbed in english too).

edit: Damn you Faaaaaaaalk!!!

At Tokyo Game Show I think we even got the English trailer first, and I'm pretty sure there'll be an English version this time too.

Why sub it when you have voice acting ready? (If the new trailer's subbed then maybe the English voice acting is /really early.)

I guess they are really proud of their douchebags in a car with terrible aliasing since they keep pimping it around. The trailer with Leviathan was so much better.
You'd rather they show us content we couldn't dream of touching for another two years?

Another possibilty:

Noctis and Adam Jensen seperated at birth??

Provisional Noctis 2 FFXV render.
(He never asked for any of this 8 year bullshit).

The second clone.

Once again American voices that don't use any semblance of subtlety (although the dialog is probably one factor contributing to that). That might be true of the Japanese voices too, but since I can't tell, they're automatically 10x preferable.

Speaking only of subtlety, the Japanese one is actually worse.

I'm guessing Sam Riegel for Prompto? I recognize his voice in most games. He sounds like he always does - which should be fine, he does good work.

Also, BAWTHs.

It was a sub though, why would they show english dub in a Japanese event (and a Japanese stream where they speak only Japanese?)

Maybe they'll release an english version later, but next week is Japanese for sure (hopefully with subs, but who knows).

NA Square Enix's YouTube channel uploaded FFXV's TGS trailer at the start of TGS, same as the Japanese side. My guess is the same thing will happen this Friday/Saturday. English and Japanese trailer launches together online.

Expected it to be bad, but it wasn't bad at all. The voices seem to fit pretty well to me. Not a big fan of the british sounding accent though (for the character, not in general lol)....Still doubt i'll play it in english though.

This is almost as horrible as Persona 4's various dubs.

If there's no dual audio, hopefully I can turn them off. But they've been good on that recently. I prefer the timbre of the JP voices much more.

Voices seem fine to me.

I think a lot of FF fans expectations are waaaaaaaaay up there, like they're expecting FFXV to mirror the real world.

I think they sound fine, but why does Ignis sound like a Brit when he's from the same place as Noctis and Gladio?

The only way this makes sense is if he's brought up in some other nation, which they said he's not.

Voices seem just as good as the Japanese version. Not sure why people are complaining about it. Dialogue is probably gonna be terrible but this is final fantasy. It's gonna be bad in Japanese too.

Noctis's japanese voice can be pretty deep at times. I think the english VO fits well and also he is a prince i expect him to have a prominent voice.

Either Ignis's voice actor (along with the direction given to him) hails from North America and doesn't really know how to do an adequate English-sounding accent without going overboard, or they roped in an English voice actor and ordered him to exaggerate the pronunciation so it becomes extra-abundantly clear that he is meant to be British.

Because that is a very forced pronunciation of "bath", and I'm from the UK. Granted, I'm not from the Home Counties, but I don't have to be.

Ignis sounds less like a childhood friend and more like Noctis' butler whom he's known for a few weeks.

"Careful, Highness!" What, really? Ughhh...these voices are not growing on me.

Doesn't sound bad to me although the voices are a bit too deep considering the characters are just boys....but honestly it's better like that than getting an other Tidus :D

They refer to him like this in Japanese too though.

No, "Daijoubuka Nocto" is not the same as "Careful, Highness!"

His close friends should never address him formally. It just doesn't make sense. It didn't happen in the Japanese version and it shouldn't happen here.

That's my other problem with SE's dubs lately... they change too much of the JP script.

Totally agree here. I feel like we're about to get two different scripts again :/ .

They didn't even have a good idea of what the Japanese script was for FFXIII. Troy Baker even said he interpreted a lot of it himself.

Their International division right now just isn't that great in general based on what I've seen from the past few months.

He says bocchan.
And Noctis is constantly referred to as ouji.

And at the beginning of the trailer Gladio calls him Ouji...

I am absolutely adoring the voices. Noctis having a surprisingly deep voice is a pleasant revelation, and the others fit to a tee. Ignis' accent is a little overbearing and out of place considering his origin, but the actual voice itself is smooth enough that I'm already over it.

This, however, does bother me. I don't see a good reason to drastically alter the script. There's not much I can do about it but say that I don't really approve. At least I don't know any Japanese to realize what they're altering.

That's totally sarcastic. They refer to him like that in a sarcastic tone, totally opposite from what Ignis did at the end of the dub trailer.

It's meant to mock.

Yep, that's totally the impression I get whenever I hear them call him that.

You're nitpicking a bit, man. Which is fine, of course, but I can't see a single instance of "highness" replacing "Nocto" meaningfully changing anything. The crew has always subtly acknowledged Noctis' royal background, and the larger context will surely clarify the nuances of that.

Like, in addition to being lifelong friends, haven't characters like Ignis also had formal roles in Noctis' life? Maybe Ignis takes his more seriously. Who knows? I think it's a little early to claim the dub is butchering the characterization.

The British accent thing does seem weird to me, though. I'd like an explanation to that, as well.

Yup, sounds like a JRPG dubbed in English. The conversations should've been recorded with all of the actors present in the studio to make it sound more natural. I realize this would be hard to schedule, but this just sounds bad.. still not as bad as the Japanese over acting and countless gasps/grunts.

Listening to it the first time, it was jarring. Only because the music was blaring over the voices. I watched it the second time with headphones to hear it better and I have to say I am happy with the VA.

Ignis...is not what I expected but will get used to it.

Is Gladio VA the same one that did Sephiroth? Sounds familiar.

Sounds good to me, but it is a bit awkward since i've been hearing the same Japanese voice actors for 8+ years now.

Don't see the problem with different accents, it's only because it's two accents you know are from different countries in the real world, this isn't the real world.

People in the south of England don't sound anything like people in the north of England which don't sound anything like the Midlands, likewise for...everywhere.

Sounds pretty good to me, better than I expected actually.

Ignis is said to be from the same kingdom as Noctis and Gladio. Yet he sounds very different.

It bothers me at a plot-level. I'll refrain until we know more about him, though, but there's doubt.

Maybe he's just pretentious like Madonna and randomly just started speaking in a British accent for no reason.

Voices sound decent enough.

They are going to re-animate the mouth movements for lipsync to the English VO, right? There's no way they'd just do a straight dub when the game is bound to sell 5x as many copies in the west.

They should. Early trailers for XIII didn't have the lipsync in it, but ultimately later trailers and the final game did, as have both of the sequels.

Obviously I'm going to judge Noctis really harshly here, but I found his voice to be a bit too... throaty? I dunno. It's not even really a matter of it being deeper or anything, it's just a bit too throaty / whispery for my immediate liking. The first thing that came to mind was Christian Bale's Batman voice, lol.

The rest of them fit fairly well to my expectations.

I suppose I'll give it some time and wait until I hear a bit more before passing any final judgement. Overall, I felt it could have been much worse.
