Steam winter sale begins December 18 according to PayPal

I have no hype for this because there are no PC games I really want out of any potential Steam sale.

I gotta tell ya, this is a pretty terrific feeling.

PayPal has once again outed an upcoming Steam sale before Valve has had the chance to announce it.

I might be crazy, but IIRC Valve has never announced a Steam sale, people just guess it right up until the day it happens.

All I want is Divinity: Original Sin for less than $20. I already own it, but my best friend lost his job around its release and has been dying to play it. I've been sitting on $23 in card money, and I think that'll be a better use for it than adding to my ridiculous backlog.

Long term Steam users always bash these sales, and the games that are chosen.

For me though, this is only my 2nd winter sale. Last one was a blast and I got a TON of stuff.

I expect to have a great time with this one.

Plus there are always a TON of new PC players who have never experienced the joys of overloading your backlog with a ton of great games for less than a typical movie night with a loved one.

Bring it on!

I'm finding this also. This Summer sale was my first since a month before I also built my first ever gaming PC. Anyway, I ended up spending $400 because of all the games I didn't have.

I think these people bashing the sales probably already have 90% of the games listed, but they have a backlog of 1,000+ games or something, so instead of being on the lookout for more games, they should perhaps play their games! lol

Just ignore the jaded old users. Most people who complain forget that new people are coming into PC gaming and, as you said, this is their first sale and so the savings are massive for them.

This is correct. As a long time Steam user, I personally still love these sales. There is always some gem I didn't get to pick up last time that I will have a chance at getting for a good price next time.

I remember my first major Steam sale. It was glorious. Jealous of those new to it.

Even if I don't get anything, I still get excited.

I don't do the meta bullshit though. Don't have the time.

There is also the wonderful other part of Steam sales too.

They are LOADED with generosity from fellow GAF'ers who buy and give away a ton of stuff. For me that was just as much fun last time when giving stuff away as it was finding those deals.

I have some stuff saved up too.

Will be a good time :)

I would say I'm hoping for a good sale, but I generally buy stuff I want to or even have a mild interest in playing.

Maybe there will be something I missed out on?

Dark souls 2 seadon pass gimme gimme
This is also #1 on my wishlist, but after the announcement of the "new" version next spring I am not so sure any longer. I wanted to play the DLC areas during the holidays but maybe I will wait now and just get around to finish FF13 instead.

We haven't had a really cool Metagame in a long time.

Playing games with extra content specifically made for the ARG to unlock things was amazing.
I remember we did a LAN during that time during the winter sale and everybody was trying different games and telling each other about it - not what I normally experience on a LAN but a great experience nonetheless.

bugger. I'd better start Dishonoured, which I bought in Summer sale before it's cheaper in the winter sale... or else it was a waste!
