Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Today is literally the first day of the beta, calm down about getting matched with new folk haha

And sure, I had some great successful matches today also. I still cant see shit sometimes. Everyones displays are different and maybe yours is calibrated differently than mine, and than those many people I see complaining about the same thing as me. I'm not about to re calibrate my entire display for one game, it really needs a gamma slider at least. And it wouldn't hurt to remove some haze.

I agree, every game should have a Gamma Slider because every display is calibrated differently (as well as games). My monitor is calibrated to 2.2 gamma and some games need to be re-adjusted because their gamma setup is different.

Heh, and about getting matched up with new people... I have literally gotten matched with people that were Onyx and almost Semi-Pro that had double digit deaths and an overall negative KDA. I couldn't believe what I was seeing today, I don't know if they were out of region players and just lagging or what. But those times I could have sworn it would have been an easy win.

It sucks too, because my first 10 games I won 7 of them. I got off for a bit and got back on and I literally had to pull everything out of my ass that I could, and most times my team would still lose ;(. Hopefully tomorrow is different.

Tons of Server Errors.
Quit and return to lobby, restart and it's with the same people that it quit from.

Players dropping out during loading.
Taking a long time to find players, or load and start.

Have been sitting at a full lobby for a minute or two and nothing is happening.

When that happens, you're better off restarting the game. It is quicker then sitting there waiting to get a sever error. I also hate when someone backs out in a full lobby, sometimes it glitches up and produces a server error.

Finally got a match on the map other than midship after 4 games. Did much better. Midship is crazy dark for me.

So far so good. Just one game with lag out of 5.

I find the complaints about the blue team on Truth ironically funny after adding the red tint in Lockout for the same reason.

After 7 hours I must say that I really like this game.
I hope they will leave pistol as it is because it's so perfect,I love this weapon.
Netcode is pretty good too.Maybe it is due to servers. It plays a lot smoother than MCC though.
Sound and gunplay are amazing.
Matches are often close and there is that feeling of playing in a team, guarding weapons and controlling map.It was pretty much absent in Halo 4.
Speaking of teams it is really awesome to play with friends and communicate.
Worst part of the beta is that it is beta and it will end.It will be long wait until release (any idea when will it launch?)

Had a good round with glitched audio too, forgot to hit record :(

Hmm, never had any issues? I tried with two and three and kept getting server errors at "joining slayer" or something along those lines. I would find games percectly alone though

Some people had those issues, I believe, in Early Access. I remember watching Ogre2's stream and he was having problems with a couple of people in matchmaking.

got hang of pistol, that shit can wrek

For some reason I cannot get the hang of it. Sometimes I try and fumble it horribly, so I drop back get better positioning and either use an AR or SMG (if I don't have a BR or DMR).

First of all let me be straight up.

This game is already 100000000% better than Halo 4. Holy shit does this feel competive.

Also am I the only one who actually really like Spartan chatter? That shit has helped me get kills multiple times now by calling out where teammates were killed.

Some of it is redundant, but I don't feel like talking to randoms right now and it does help. Reminds me of Shadowrun.

Man, when the controls start to click, this game becomes something else. Thrusters are the best thing to happen to Halo since... ever, maybe, and scoring the winning kill via Ground Pound is fucking hilarious. It's honestly going to be hard giving up the superhero antics once this beta ends.

Scoping with LT in Halo feels kinda dirty, but otherwise the default control layout feels the most intuitive, so I'll deal even if it means unlearning a decade-plus of grenades being on the trigger.

DMR and Magnum both feel great fired from the hip; I can't use the sniper for shit, though.

Bumper Jumper FO' LYFE! But seriously though, Thrusters have been in Halo since Reach (4 also had them) but they were part of a loadout so not everyone had them.

Absolutely loving the beta just like last weekend but the lag is seriously dampening my enthusiasm, with no lag I'm doing really well but unfortunately that seems to be very rarely atm.

With the Azure servers now up and running here in Australia I would have hoped they were using them but it feels more like the servers I'm getting on are on the other side of the world.

I wish there was an option or at least ping/connection stats so we have a clue.

Definitely in the same boat. I mean I'm not very good as it is, but this lag does not help at all. I'm just hoping that it's the beta not using the Aussie servers or something. I'd really like an option to choose a datacenter though.

Getting better, but man limiting it to two maps this week sucks. Already tired of Truth and its strange geometry and colors.

neither map is any good. it's a shame because i enjoyed watching the sprint videos and seeing how they built them.

it really just comes down to them being too damn big. Empire at least has some segmentation to let you close the gaps, but Truth is gargantuan. you could play BTB on this map.

i'll be disappointed if Regret doesn't at least deliver. .

Really? I think both maps are the perfect size for 4 vs 4. I'd also like to see 5 vs 5 as well.

I don't really feel like either feel too big, but something is definitely off about Truth. Maybe it's just too open, even after learning the corners, it seems I get blind sided far too much. Also hate not being able to see most of the weapons on the ground.

Serious?

As someone who HATED Halo 4's obsession with massive maps, Empire and Truth are perfect. Especially for SWAT.

I really have to give it to 343i this time around; they outdid themselves. There is no need to wait a whole year for Halo 5. I can play Call of Duty: Advance Warfare right now. Thank you!

So just out of curiosity, for those who didn't like the beta at all, what would you suggest to "evolve" the series? Besides Halo 2'ing everything I mean.

My goodness this is bad.

When they showed the whole 'clamber' thing for the first time, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't feel as sloppy, inconsistent and rough as the environmental navigation in Brink.

Somehow, they managed to make a system that feels even worse.

Terrible.

Oh, and the one new map is fucking terrible as far as landmarks and pure soul. Just a generic fucking steel arena, and fuck if I could tell you how to get to the DMRs from any given spawn point, every goddamn corner of that map looks exactly the same.

Midship is still good though.

I actually really like this game so far, which is surprising to me as a hardcore Halo fan. It's not perfect, but it really is fun, and my biggest complaints so far(nades and autos being OP) are easily fixable. It's miles better than the steaming pile of horseshit known as Halo 4.

However, one thing about this game absolutely infuriates me. Its matchmaking is already significantly better than Master Chief Collection's.

I played this game for hours on end today and found matches quickly and consistently, rather I was searching alone, with a friend, or with three of my friends. By no means was it perfect, but it was rather smooth, especially since it's almost an entire year from launch.

However, I decided to try my hand at MCC, if for no other reason than the fact that MCC certainly packs more content. You can really only play two maps for so long! Upon booting up MCC, me and my friend had to close the app and reopen it three times just to be able to join eachothers lobby! Three fucking times! After finally being able to find a game, the fourth player on our team quit, and we ended up losing, partially being due to our third player being simply meh.

As much as I would like to say that this was just one bad night, I can't. This has been reprenstative of my overall experience with this game, and it's hardly gotten any better a month since it launched! It's simply fucking insane. As much as I like H5:G, the fact that MCC barely works at all makes it really hard for me to even consider buying H5:G.

I know that this has been touched upon by everyone over and over, but it really does disturb me. As of today, I truly believe that 343i is just trying to sweep the MCC PR disaster under the rug and just move on without actually fixing it, because there's absolutely no way that they didn't know how broken it was before launch.

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but this is essentially how I feel about H5 at the moment. It's hard for me to completely believe in the potential of the project when 343i refuses to right their most recent fuck up. Please, for the love of everything, fix your game 343i.

jesus the kill times are ridiculous. see 2 or more people standing near each other? forget about it.

It will get better once we have BR starts in week 2.

Now when you come across 2 people, even with perfect shots you don't stand a chance because the AR is far too powerful with how easy it is to use.

But the BR in peoples hands with its toned down aim assist, and some good thrust/strafing/jumping and a good shot and you stand a MUCH better chance at winning a 2 v 1. odds are still against you obviously, but the ability for big plays are there because your opponents can miss shots easier.

I've gotten into a few 2 on 1's with the pistol and managed to succeed.

One of the many reasons BR starts > Ar starts. Fuckin almost 2015 and we still got AR starts in Halo
