Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

Enemies have shields, so we will too I'm sure (hope).

That was utterly my logic.

You got most of the equipment from the humanoid enemies in Dark Souls.

There will be no shields

"In Demon's Souls, you were equipped with a sword and a shield, so you could seek out an area and take a passive approach," explains Miyazaki. "But we're going to switch that up from passive to not aggressive so much, but more pro-active."

As such there's no shield in Bloodborne - instead, you're dual-wielding weapons that themselves have dual purposes.

I've got this on pre-order but that looked pretty bad to me.
I've watched the alpha being played and it looked amazing, this looked awful though.
they changed the moody night setting to a sunset and to add even more insult it's got more jaggies than before.
what's going on? why so many changes for the worse, I've never played a souls game but do they really do this every time before release?
gameplay over graphics and all that but why lie about what the final release will look like so much.
fingers crossed it get's fixed for the release, I'd much prefer a night setting to the sunset as well, maybe the night time hides all the jaggies somehow?

I just don't like being shown one thing for such a long time and then just before release or in some cases after release we find out that the actual game is worse.
I'd much prefer open honesty regarding previews, screenshots and videos

Do you realise that your whole post is nullified thanks to the bolded?

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but in this day and age, you can't justify your rants and concerns and nitpicking if you've already pre-ordered the game. It just doesn't work like that. If you've already pre-ordered the game, put money down or whatever, that's your call. That's showing the publishers and retailers that you're willing to buy into the stuff they show before launch.

Also, you say you watched the alpha. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not too well-versed in game dev, but an alpha build is usually in no way a concrete indication of the final product. They may call it "contents complete", but it will still need gameplay tweaks, graphical fixes and a whole load of optimisation that goes on until all data is locked down and it's ready to ship. Don't forget day one patches for inevitable network issues! Basically, anything can (and usually will) happen before a game's release. It's your responsibility as the consumer to judge the status, consider the time frame, and then decide whether you want to invest in it.

If you really, truly believe this is a case of downgrade/bait-and-switch/dishonesty (which it really isn't), then cancel your pre-order. It's as simple as that. At the end of the day, it's the publisher's/media's job to sell it to you, so your beef should be with them. Don't forget that the developers are at the mercy of budget, technical and time constraints, and they just want to put out a game that people can enjoy in decent time, at the same time as pleasing the publisher.

I don't remember Second Son being downgraded.

U wot m8?

I don't know about the others but Infamous Second Son was not downgraded, at least from what I remember, people assumed it was downgraded because the shots were from a different time of day, then it was proved the game was improved rather than downgraded. What exactly has been downgraded in The Order and Driveclub?

With the exception of DC (which was an incredibly mild downgrade), nothing else was downgraded.

What are you talking about?

None of them were downgraded lol I was being sarcastic. Just mocking the downgrade accusation trend. Everyone is so fast to throw the downgrade card when in reality they all look 100 times better than their first showing by release. I just used those games because I remember all the downgrade talk prior to them releasing. Don't kill me!

I hope so too lol

Probably. Someone can't be that misinformed. It's not possible, right?

lol. Not used to your posting style, so my sarcasm meter didn't pick it up! :D

Are there any videos that show the cane being used?

Oh, if it wasn't downgraded, I am mistaken. The other posts in this thread had me thinking I saw something impressive before.

I guess it is just a weak upgrade over what's come before (i.e. PC ports of the last-gen games).

From gotta From.

I don't even...

lol

Didnt see the footage cause I dont wanna spoil myself... Was hoping for nice impressions... Instead I only see complaints about IQ and aliasing on an alpha build.

The fuck?

Damn they keep showing off the beginning in so many different lighting choices I don't know which one will be the actual lighting for each level since I know there is some dynamism involved but supposedly not a true Day/Night cycle.

This just looks incredible it's gonna be so fucking good, couple that with the incredible art, graphics, and atmosphere and I bet this shit is going to be like the best game ever.

The only thing that will top this game for me is MGSV:TPP, Bloodborne looks and sounds like a fantastic evolution of what the series did in DeS/DS much like MGSV:TPP will be.

Japanese game developers dropping the megahits! I can't wait oh my God.

MARCH 24TH PLEASE COME FASTER, I NEED TO PLAY BLOODBORNE.

If the final game turns out to have jaggies and no AA after that Dark Souls II debacle, are people going to boycott the game like they threatened to last year?

#WELIED?

having no AA after never promising AA is different than removing a game's lighting and texture effects after showing off a game with impressive lighting and texture effects

the comparisons to the ds2 situation are a delusion that would cause me significant distress if i didn't already think you were all a pack of raving lunatics

I am starting to think I am blessed with bad vision (far sighted) because I can't see the jaggies people complain about. Or maybe I am not looking at it correctly.

The only "jarring" thing to me is a lot of very shimmery edges on things. But they do not look jagged to me.

Are there any good screen caps of the jags?

Good point.

If you are playing a From Software game for graphics, you're doing it wrong anyhow.

Oh! You got me there for a moment heh, I thought I had missed the news about some of those titles being downgraded.

Art design and environmental density make the graphics pretty appealing to me as they are. It feels like you can't walk more than ten feet without finding something unique or eye catching.

There has got to be more than just day lighting vs night going on here. The textures look washed out. They must have had to cut back on stuff to get the framerate up. Everyone who played the earlier alpha's mentioned framerate was rough, so this was probably part of the compromise.

Gameplay looks fantastic as always. At least that will be fresh and exciting. It's just becoming a sad trend to see what From games could be, but always falling short of early previews.

Concerning the visuals: I'm so glad I work the way I do. I have a generous minimal standard when it comes to the technical and as long as a game passes this standard: I only judge a game's visuals by it's art style, and luckily, Bloodborne's art style is stupendous.

Wow, graphically it has gone from impressive to total shit. FROM must have really struggled with the PS4 or something. I guess I'll keep my pre-order, it's a Souls game after all.

Textures washed out? What? That doesn't even make sense.

Are people watching the YouTube video at 480 or something? Total shit...

Most of the vid was stuff we already saw in the online test, just at a different time of day. They showed off some menus and a little bit of the inventory system, it looks very nice, really clean and easy to read. Unfortunately they chose the sawblade instead of the cane weapon so we didn't really see anything different with the combat. The story spoiler stuff was really cool, although actually not too spoilery (thankfully lol). It did introduce an aspect to the story that I don't think anybody knew would be a thing though. Also the actual area although the same from the online test, had some slight differences (new enemy placements, NPC's/story stuff).

Overall, a nice little vid that gave a little more insight into the story and showed a bit more of the game off without being TOO spoilery.

Textures washed out? What? That doesn't even make sense.
people just HAVE to try and shit on games huh, even if it makes no sense at all lmao.

Is this final? Did you guys see the breaks in between the polygons in the floor in that one section? Also the transition when going from opening gates to your regular stance with your weapons out looks super bad.

Not that it really matters that much but a little refinement goes a long way...

No, 1080p on an IPS panel no less. Textures look flat and terrible, washed out colors, horrible aliasing, and frame hitching even at substandard IQ. The game truly is not technically impressive at any level.

Regardless, the gameplay and mechanics look fantastic and like a Souls game, so that matters far more. The game just doesn't look good for this generation at all.

Weird marketing tactics.

You'd think they would want to show the game at its best instead of showing a jaggy version.

Yea, similar stuff happened with The Order, where for the longest time they kept showing the same old demo for nearly a year.

Now closer to release we're getting all sort of decent trailers for the game.

Bloodborne development is probably in crunch mode right now.

The answer to that is in first seconds of the video. My word...

What's interesting is that the off-screen TGS footage looks way sharper and vibrant.

This either means IGN has access to an older build or something is fucked up with their recording.

Yeah, fair enough. I am definitely going to Redbox The Order after seeing that last trailer, which looked improved.

I guess we should wait until The Order comes out to judge what its status is.

For me, the art trumps any technical shortcomings the Bloodborne has.

That said, I was kind of hoping a new-gen Souls game to have the same visual fidelity as a game like Ryse, heh.

It's a shame really. It looks marginally better than last gen, if at all. I don't know what the main problem is, maybe their programmer's just aren't up to snuff, or there just isn't enough time. This is 2 releases in a row that their games have regressed in technical features as the game progresses.

You don't know this. That isn't the final build.

You can't prove that with bloodborne. The lighting in the alpha and in the IGN first video is extremely different so it's an unfair comparison.

From Bloodborne GameStart 2014 Interview with Masaaki Yamagiwa:

"Another interviewer asked if a day and night cycle would be implemented in Bloodborne, as fans noticed that in some parts of the game’s recent trailer, the sky was brightly-lit. The producer stated that there is indeed a variation of time in the game but adds that “it’s not like it happens in real-time when you play, the sun goes down or something like that. It doesn’t happen. But yes, when you play through the story, there are variations of the weather and the time.”

I'm guessing that the Lantern "totally not bonfires" bonfires probably advance time when you travel back and forth or to the Sanctuary.
