It had 5 chapters so that helps the transition to be pretty smooth. More so when I look from the angle where a good-for-nothing turned hero is typically done in the 1st chapter to ease the reader into the main plot of the story.
For me, this chapter started to shine when the mom asked him why he wasn't being more earnest.

There's this one guy who posts on GAF known as DTL... if you search by his username and read his posts then you may become preggers however if you can weather that then you'll know more about yaoi than you can imagine. He's also my sun.

Great comedy, the demon king and the hero have pretty good chemistry together, the art is nice with some really funny and moe moments and the economic side of the story is interesting.
It fits the bill for a dramatic Yaoi / Shounen Ai story with crazy people. About the good part, I dunno. I did take some sick enjoyment from the hurtful nature of the story, and certain things are interesting/sorta good, but overall the story sits more on the average side of the fence.
Still, I'd like to hear some impressions from other people that have read it to see what they think of it so I say go ahead and read it.

Depends on what you're interested in. Sakura Gari is kind of intense and has the unfortunate idea that as long as you pretend your story is deep it's okay to have as many questionable scenes as you like. It has a lot of very clever imagery (as the questionable scenes aren't actually too explicit by themselves) and pretty art, but I'm not sure I totally agree with anything that the story was trying to convey.
Many of the more well-regarded bl manga are basically old shoujo manga where you had two male leads in order to bypass cultural issues with having women in stories with sexual themes. Once this stopped being an issue, most of these became josei stories, although I have to wonder if the reason most yaoi is so intense is due to this trend.
I think Toward the Terrra and Heart of Thomas are examples of old shoujo manga that had bl themes for this reason. I'm not really sure if I can think of any really good modern examples but dakku or DTL might know some.

I read a couple more Itou Junji things, and I bought a volume that I didn't know existed. I think there are still two random volumes I haven't read. After that, I'll have read everything he's written, I think.
Ma no Kakera
Read the last 3 chapters, and it really changed my opinion of the book. One of Itou's better collections lately. Has some weak chapters in the fist half, but I really liked the second half a lot.

I went into this with lower expectations than the last time I tried making curry, since cooking's at the bottom of my list of interests. After 40ish chapters I now repent my sins. Despite giving zero forks about all the food jargon, each culinary exchange is so masterfully built up and depicted that I'm almost inspired to learn how to stop poisoning people. Almost.
I've seen a lot of waifu arguments here, which is weird, because Team Alice is clearly the light and the truth. I'm assuming Erina does something admirable in the next 60 chapters to justify her popularity, because right now she's an unremarkable tsunoujo, outshone by her more overt, affable and steamier cousin in basically every way. Tadokoro at least fills her role well enough that I could understand siding with her, even if I wouldn't agree with it. As for Meat, she's on the level of that childhood friend what's-her-name, as demonstrated by their mini-arc together.
Just reached what I assume is the beginning of the tournament, which is the checkpoint I was aiming for. Should be caught up by next weekend.

I'll second these 2 recommendations. Kurayami is completly worksafe if you want to dip in these waters slowly

Looking back Gintama got lucky. It had a bad debut (10th spot) and was sitting at the bottom 3 for four weeks in a row in it's early life. Luckily for it the two below it got killed and then it began it's rise. Also my god 2004 was a crazy year for Jump: Death Note, Gintama, JoJo Part 7, Hitman Reborn and D.Grayman.
