I am always deeply conflicted about this, as I personally grew to love the added challenge of not killing anyone, no alerts. When I first started playing MGS I typically just did whatever I wanted which typically switched from not playing very stealthy and switching between lethal and in the sequels, nonlethal.
When MGS3 came along I actually tried very hard on my first playthrough at the age of 14, and tried to be as stealthy as possible. A guilty pleasure of all MGS games for me is the tactile feel of each weapon, they feel different and serve different purposes, have different fire modes, and allow you to do different things.
I got Foxhound on my first playthrough of MGS4. If that's the right emblem I think. No alerts but I took my sweet fucking time so I didn't get the Big Boss emblem. I did a recent playthrough back around 2012 or so whenever they released that awesome patch that gave MGS4 trophies and allowed you to fully install the game so it doesn't have to stop to install the next chapter.
Man, I had like 96 alerts, and like 400 something kills. My subsequent playthroughs I ended up getting the Big Boss emblem, capturing the tschinoko, and finding every single Kerotan(with the help of the first edition Bradygames guides which weren't terribly helpful since most of the hardest ones are missing from the pages).
As for TPP, I don't know... I may just do kills allowed and stealth only.
Then go for ranks after I have had my fill of exploration and Motherbase/MGO.

Never posted in this thread before. Just finished MGS4 for the first time. That went on forever! Was very confusing! Drebin and Meryl and Akiba was terrible!

Having fake guns in the game makes me feel like I'm using airsoft guns when playing.

I am a bit confused here. MGSV plays in 1984, if Kojima isn't trolling, so Solid Snake would be like 12 years old. So why do people expect to hear David Hayter as Solid Snake ?
Expecting the game to cover more than just one year.

I guess that's a possibility, that it's leading to the beginning of Metal Gear.
I think it almost has to in order for it to be a complete story.
The gun itself is a mashup, fake.
So? Why does it matter? In the game you select a weapon, you aim and you shoot.

I don't know if you are new to the series or something but alongside many of the fantastical elements of MGS there is always a large component of the game's visual design and gameplay that gives the same amount respect and accuracy to the guns that the artists give to the environments.
What I am saying is the MGS games have always had a lot of realistic gun models, and often times they function realistically, and sound great and have the kind of oomph and feedback you'd expect. I mean MGS3 and 4 added so much to the series, more weapons with ROF switches and modes of fire and firerates that mimicked the real firearms they were depicting in the game. The names weren't always a hundred percent accurate, but accurate enough you easily google it and get picture of what you were using in the game, from real life.
I mean MGS4 Solid Snake has all these little animations for reloading and firing every single gun, and piece of Equipment or attachment.
It's something I've appreciated about every single entry, and as much as the new fictional guns are actually pretty well designed and function as expected, I'm hoping perhaps they have a mix of both real and fictional weapons.

Also, there is a common misconception that developers have to pay to use a particular gun, if they want to put the actual manufacturer trademarks and logos they absolutely do. However, if they model it off an airsoft gun or a real one and just call it something different they won't get into trouble, as far as I understand it.

All the guns are basically real guns without the names so I'm not too bothered. And going off the credits they did do weapon research (as expected from Kojima) so the same level of detail is still there. It is disappointing that there isn't real guns in the game but it is nothing to get super upset about.

Personally I'm glad my money isn't being used for arms and the glorifying of real life weapons. I also like the creativity of creating their own objects for their world, just like the creativity used with vehicles and technology.

Same with cars. If you like racing games, but don't care about the car designs/accuracy, then anything wrong with that wouldn't bother you.
For example, the cacti in/around Camp Omega is a species of cactus that is native to Arizona. It's most definitely not found in Cuba. That, while a bit of an annoyance, doesn't really bother me because things like that I don't particularly care about. Know what I mean?
They're somewhat similar in design, but certainly not the same. Hell, even the Marines in GZ didn't use any variation of an M16. It was some random mixture of a Chinese SAR-80, Daewoo K2, and FN FAL.

It taught me that nuclear weapons are bad, war is bad and also that killing is bad. Otherwise, it introduced me to the weapons industry, which was fascinating with its detail and history.
On my 9th birthday, my dad surprised me with a real FAMAS rifle , and he took me to a shooting range where he had managed to create several life size cardboard cut outs of FOXHOUND Members.
One of my favourite memories is me lying on the floor, shooting my FAMAS rifle at those FOXHOUND targets. I felt at that moment that I was with Snake, saving the world.

Well I think I know why we have a different opinion on the guns in mgs. I'm English. in England guns are not as freely available, therefore i personally have never shot a gun and I don't really care much for them.
I like history, but I'm not complaining Metal Gear makes it up.
Anyway, Kojima says no.

MGS games always had their fair share of gun porn. MGS3 in particular has amazingly in-depth analysis of weaponry via Sigint codec calls. It's just details, but those details are always very enjoyable.
It'd be pretty sad to see all that gone if they opt for made-up gun models. I wonder why that happened, perhaps a licencing issue?

Shooting guns is quite fun, actually. If you ever visit the U.S., be sure and go to a gun range.
That's not a very good example. I also like history and I find it very interesting how Kojima manages to intertwine MGS around real world events. I actually learned a great bit growing up from playing MGS
