Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Uh oh... Final Fantasy XIII truthers here to tell us XV is garbage.
They can feel their time in the sun has come to an end.

Every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won't have a pretty time with it.

I'm buying Type-0 HD for Type-0 HD. I'm more excited for it than XV.

Since Type-0's release on PSP, I've said to myself that if it EVER gets localized, I'd buy it. But being a console man more than a portable/mobile man, the fact it was announced and I could PLAY it in my living room, on my big HD TV on my PS4... SOLD! FFXV, while great, is just added whip cream on top of the sweet, SWEET experience.

I really hope we can change outfits in the final game. Give us the Versus XIII cloak, along with the tux.

Also wouldn't mind an Advent Children Cloud outfit for Noctis. It's mostly all black so it wouldn't look too outlandish with the current group design anyway.

I wouldn't mind something similar to the Tales series, or "certain accessories/equipment" actually changing the appearance of the character(not all equipment, only certain "special" equipment).

The Order 1886 comes out: "Gameplay and amount of content matters much more than graphics!"
Final Fantasy Type 0 HD comes out: "Gameplay and the amount of content doesn't matter, the graphics suck!"

And then we wonder why companies care less and less about the hardcore gamer these days.
It kinda makes me have contempt towards other "fellow" gamers. It really IS a pickle being like us, just wanting a fuckin "great game", not caring if it's the most cutting edge on the graphic's front. FFXV, from the look of it, the world, is my dream come true. FFT-0 is a game I've been wanting to play for a LONG ass time and regardless of people saying it doesn't look fitting to be on the next gen(er, THIS gen) consoles, looking at the original(not the emulator, but PSP graphics), it looks great. Not The Order-level of graphics, but who care? I don't. I really hate this tug of war, "damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing regarding graphics vs gameplay, and when devs try to appease both, it just doesn't seem like they can do "enough". It's been stated many, MANY times, but it rings true nonetheless. This is why we can't have good things .... because of THESE people(indecisive bastards). It's hard to cater to an audience when that audience don't know what the HELL they want in the first place, and when you try to address all their concerns, they find MORE shit to be unhappy about.

Type-0 PAX East demo ran on both PS4 and XB1 without any significantly noticable difference.

note: This was being viewed from over 10 feet away, I'm not able to pixel-count that. And obviously it's only 1 area.

My post wasn't really focused on the fidelity of the two versions, but rather the marketing of Type-0 HD compared to that of Duscae, of which we've seen both versions to easily distinguish them.

For the record, I think that the gap between the PS4 and XBOX One versions for Type-0 HD won't be that great considering it was originally developed for a much weaker system.

I'll be playing the XV Demo first, but I plan to dive right into Type-0 after that is done with. Looking forward to doing so and hopefully it winds up a fun experience.

Perhaps you can use their power somehow through Noctis, like buffs or a special attack (I mean inside caves and stuff). In open areas I believe we'll actually see them in action destroying everything lol.

I remember this being an idea discussed back when the FFXV 2013 E3 trailer came out since you had what looked like a miniature Leviathan made of water running amok throughout the area, which could be a way it manifests once Noctis gains control of it. Or possibly summons can have two stages with one being the traditional summon for huge damage and the other being some sort of effect like buffs or water shield or something along those lines.

"Yes they showed off XBOX One version of Type-0 at PAX East"

:(

:(

Sorry. :)

I guess I mistook it as you talking about the resolution since you talked about how it looked in both lines lol. I just don't want to come off as championing the PS4 too much.

Man is that supposed to be the improved camera? It still looks pretty vomit-inducing

Hard to say, might be a mixture of the before and after since these videos might have taken footage from anywhere. There was a video dedicated to showing the new camera though and I remember the camera being pulled further back than the PSP version. That, along with dual analog sticks, are already big improvements.

The new camera from all the recent trailers and footage are still bad imo.

I played the old demo (before camera fix) and it was unplayable.

Very hyped for Type 0 HD...doesn't get enough love.

Also, anyone else hope Square Enix goes on hiatus with FFXV info after the demo? I want them to just focus on completing the game and making everything perfect. The rest of the game should be a surprise to us all once it's released (never thought I'd say that about Versus XIII)...only thing worth showing would be a release date at E3 or later this year with a very short teaser.

How bad it was and what's been fixed?
Slow camera rotation?

Actually, I think the problem was that it was too fast.

And the lock-on is super on point, so if an enemy jumps behind you the camera immediately follows it. That becomes a problem when in tight spaces.

Although, I'm not sure about any of this, I'm yet to find a game where I have problems with the camera (currently have over 100 hours on Type-0 and it never bothered me)...

Pfft, not going to happen.

FF marketing, especially in Japan are the most spoilerific pre-launch marketing build up.

I don't know about you guys but while I'm happy that I can finally try out the game, there's still a part of me that's bitter this isn't the VXIII from 2011 or E3 2013.

This game was actually what I considered to be my ideal game (Tetsuya Nomura as the director, KH battle system, unique setting, nice character designs, a dark story that I wanted from a Final Fantasy game, and the KH team), but ever since the director changed to Hajime Tabata I've been losing interest bit by bit.

I realize that the game's core vision is still intact (the road trip, story, characters, etc.), but the change in battle system, emphasis on the Type-0 team (they rarely show anybody from the VXIII days), and the game's cinematography really makes it feel like a different game.

It's not like I dislike Tabata's version, I'm sure it'll become one of my favourite games but there's this part of me that really wishes I could play the older version of the game that Tetsuya Nomura mentioned he wanted to release several times.

He mentioned that in the last paragraph of this interview, I actually spent some time to dig it up: http://www.novacrystallis.com/2013/...xv-and-kingdom-hearts-development-philosophy/

EDIT: I would just like to clarify that this isn't an attack on Tabata, I've been a fan of him ever since Crisis Core.

I agree. I am somewhat disappointed. I've been waiting for the game since (like many of you I suspect) 2006. And I am a huge fan of action RPGs. So a darker Final Fantasy, with a similar battle system to Kingdom Hearts seemed very cool.

But at this point I'm just happy progress is being made. And if I like what I read in the reviews I'll pick this game up.

Hopefully Nomura and his team are making good progress on KH3.

old vs. new camera comparison. The new camera is still from last year so it might not be final

Basically for me the camera was too close, and when your target moves the camera movement was too fast and shaky that gave me headaches.

Ah, you're right.
I think it's too fast due to the lock on. If they can at least move the camera away a bit, it wouldn't be too much of a problem.

Great to know I'm not the only one. I'm actually pretty concerned about Nomura's future in the company, I hope Square really doesn't use him as a scapegoat more than they already are.

While I'm not going to deny the possibility that the game's long development is partially Nomura's fault, I hope Square realizes that a large portion of it was due to their management of game engines and the rushing of FFXIII & FFXIV

ya im relly sad they took out somnus

I wouldn't have minded a battle system like Kingdom Hearts. Probably would have enjoyed it greatly if it were anything like BbS.

But, here's the thing: I already have BbS, and several other Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts 3 on the horizon.

I'm glad this is looking like something wholly different from another franchise I enjoy.

Too lazy to go through each video but what does the victory fanfare sound like? Is it the traditional fanfare or something new?

BTW not sure if mentioned but do we have any idea about classic FF themes making in XV?

ya im relly sad they took out somnus

We have new (and better) Somnus in the title screen...

There is no victory fanfare.

They do have the traditional fanfare theme but it's not for battle.

lmao, you're trolling right? I don't think they'll want to remove that song since the game is so heavily associated with it. Especially since the main menu theme of the demo is an awesome piano version of it

Excuse me?

What do you mean they took out Somnus?

That song is incredible; why would they take that out?

How much has FF15 changed from Versus 13?!

Took it so far out of the game that it's sitting on the demo title screen, asking to be let back in.

But they won't.

Well, to be fair, one of the people that shows up the most is Wan, and he said he's one of the original people from the Versus team (not the main guys announced in 2006, but he joined when it was still Versus).

Also, I agree with the battle system, I'm still highly skeptical with all this feedback talk and I doubt the final game will be as good as KH3. However, the setting, story and characters all seem to be there and I would actually be surprised if they changed it.

Unfortunately we won't get all the crazy systems and concepts Nomura wanted, but we'll get a world and story that he envisioned at least.

And I hope he doesn't quit Square before giving us TEWY2
(and BBS2)

Am I being trolled?

Is Somnus in or not?

I'm about to light my PS4 on fire D:

Did he say that he joined around 2010? That is definitely reassuring, but the lack of the other members is still a little concerning. That being said, the battle system does look pretty interesting so I'm still very much excited for this game.

Also, I don't think Nomura was as heavily involved with TWEWY as most people think. I think the sequel could be done with barely any involvement with him.

Yeah that's very true, I'm not going to lie I do look forward to this battle system too. Especially since it's much closer to the FF franchise than the KH one.

Somnus is super overrated. It's good, but I feel like the overwhelming praise it gets comes from folks having no familiarity with opera.

Isn't that just KH3?

Cause I'll be disappointed if KH3 isn't just "Choose your own keyblade user route and then proceed to ignore everyone else cause Aqua is the best."
I don't know why, but I hope not =X

I just want more KH games before they start a new saga once 3 is out.

Also, yes. Aqua is indeed the best.

Well, if you need more people, Hasegawa from the KH team is still in. They didn't mention many people beyond them =X

Also, Nomura is credited as Creative Producer and Main Character Designer for TWEWY, I'd say he influenced a lot in both the aesthetic and the gameplay of the game.
