But why? Kendrick only gave Jay Rock a feature on GKMC which although ironically (being autobiographical) is also a lot more universal compared to how off center this is.

It's his show.

True but it would have been dope if they played a part in the album or at least adlib a line or something.

It's a good album regardless...but its a pity that TDE couldn't do a posse cut.

I wouldn't personally.

As much as I like an artist.

It kept me from going to see Kendrick in Arizona over the weekend.

But that's just me. If it was the Black Hippy crew, I'm THERE. Saw Kdot perform in 2013. It was sweet. everybody yelling yawk yawk yawk yawk together was fun as hell lol.

Yeah...I mean I know I'd probably end up having a good time with all the other shit that goes on there. But seeing him at a huge festival like that probably wouldn't be the most enjoyable way to see him.

It's pretty amazing how much of a gulf there is in how good the 2nd half of this album is compared to the 1st, and I still like the 1st half.

Only have Mortal Man left to listen to.

Edit: Oh and the album version of i is great.

i actually like dying of thirst more than sing about me even though both are legitimately great.

but i'm thinking mortal man is even better. these lyrics are what i needed to hear from rap tbh

Yeah, Mortal Man nails it lyrically and conceptually. Those final minutes are powerful.

I don't see the comparison at all except both are long songs lol.

I would say this is more on a Real comparison because both ended the album perfectly and had some reflective type of moments.

The conversation of 2Pac automatically makes it a better song.

Both of probably some of his best songs overall.

Man. This shits real as hell.

I'm starting over from track one. Fuck work. I'm just gonna be tired going in.

And I can't remember if it was this thread or Gaf Hop but to whoever recommended me to listen to i (snl version), I dig It on the album.

Well I guess that's assuming this album version is in fact the snl version.

Man I can't believe I just said I didn't mind the song "i"....that live version and that final verse kinda makes a difference lol.

This is definitely going to be an album where people in their late 20's and up are more likely to love this than early 20's and younger.

I can't how. much. better. this version of i is.

Waiting for the "Even Drake's mixtape was better than this" comments

I'm 22 and I like it :D.
I've only done one listen and I think I like it more than S80, it's not GKMC level but I didn't really expect that based on the singles leading up to this. I'm kind of glad King Kunta leaked early, because even though I still don't care for that song, it kind of prepared me for the funk vibe this album has going on.
My favorite song is hood politics. Best beat on the album in my opinion.

Real shit.

I look at it like how folks looked at In My Lifetime Vol 1 around the time it came out. People shitted on that album hard but honestly...it was probably Jay's most personal album next to Reasonable Doubt.

Kendrick fans will like it. Hip hop fans will be divided mostly.

Not sure Kendrick fans will like it - at least, not all. If you went in expecting Money Trees and Maad City tracks you won't like this album.

Will review this tomorrow or later this week. This is one of the most ambitious albums I've heard in awhile, When it works it's stunning. At other times it feels like it suffers from studio isolation: overthinking shit, born from spending too much time trying to perfect things. That being said overall I think the album hits more than it misses.

The production is amazing, the concept is well executed. It builds up to quite a climax and nails it.

With respect to For Free...he's not talking about women, I don't get the Black Girl Lost/What Girls Life comparison.

And I agree Anna Wise shouldn't be on Institutionalized.

Am I the only one who's really into Wesley's Theory? I'ts one of my favorite tracks. It's just so out there, but it sounds great to me.

That line from For Sale? Reminding me of that card captor sakura opening track.

Otherwise liking the use of Lucy in the song, real atmosphere vibes from that verse.

As much as I dig Mortal Man, somebody on KTT said did Pac fall asleep during Kendricks poem?

Lololol. I love the song but that kinda fucked me up.

Said I was going to sleep but decided to give it a shot and just finished it...

Guys, this was the best all around production of 2015 so far. Every song has it's feel, and damn... Every single beat is fantastic in its own way.

Mortal Man could be the best song he ever put out. From a lyric perspective, to a fitting beat and to the outro with the convo... Chills. Literally, I felt speechless when it ended. A true closer to an album, and a fantastic track on its own.

shit, didn't know it was on spotify. idk how or why it leaked, but thank god, can't wait to listen in the morning. all the impressions got me excited as fuck.

I would love to see a list of artists talking about this on Twitter.

Kinda like how they were when GKMC dropped.

Cause i just barely saw a Taylor Swift tweet lol.

One of my favourites on the whole album. Love everything about it, starts the album off perfectly.
