Yep, this is what I was just posting about. Totally unsettling and awesome. Loved the music. Oddly enough, I found the lamppost, teleported out of there, but now can't return to that lamp post. I guess I have to get killed again by that guy to go back there?

Check the third headstone in dream refuge. You should be able to go back.

Do you lose insight if you die? I'm assuming you do. I'm still not even sure what it does.

No. You only lose insight when you try to summon someone. Even if the summoning fails... Reminds me of Dark Souls 1 before they fixed Cracked red eye orbs.

First Dark Souls game. So far I'm not feeling it. It's hard for no reason. I just wiped out 10 guys no problem, then I get mopped by a dude with a torch because one shot didn't connect. Why does every trip back repopulate every enemy? I probably just suck at this. I'm going to keep playing with a hopeful expectation of a eureka moment where this just clicks.

It may happen yet for you. One thing to remember is that there are no trivial enemies. One thing people like about the game is that you have to be alert and trying all the time. The game requires skill and concentration at all times.

As far as repetitive run throughs: you get faster at the fights and they get easier. Exploring yields a lot of shortcuts. It can be rewarding that way. I have never played a game with more unlockable shortcuts than this.

ill try this again because this moves too fast:

So I've defeated the first three bosses
(the third being the poison monster), anyone know where i should go next? Is it the gate where I need to buy the emblem from the shop?

Also, how do I open the door at the top of the workshop? The place you get to after taking the elevator in the cathedral ward?

There should be a gate open at the Cathedral.

Anyone else have like a bunch of molotovs in your storage but they wont repopulate your inventory? I have like 29 in storage but 0 on me and I can't figure out how to transfer them into my inventory

You have to go into the Hunters dream, in the house on the hill there's a storage near the rightmost entrance to it.

I think only vials/bullets refill automatically.

Finally made some progress but got careless. Is there a lantern anywhere near the bridge with the two werewolves?

No but there is a short cut:
After the area with the bonfire, the area with the guy banging on the door before you go down the small stairs if you keep going straight there are coffins at the end, smash them and drop down. From there go through the building, up a small set of stairs on the other side of the building and up a larger set and open the gate. Now from here head to the house you passed through and climb the stairs inside and out the door onto the bridge behind the wolves and head left, you can just run past the crows and the brick guy (should only take a min if you happen to die at the boss). Thanks to Hoje0308 for pointing that out as I would have told you the longer route to get to the short cut.

Try to use your weapon's secondary mode to keep the monsters at a distance with longer-ranged attacks. Heal often (Triangle). If you lose health, you can get some back for a temporary period after the hit by attacking any enemy. Use wide sweeping attacks if you're worried about missing. Be constantly moving so that attacks are less likely to connect. Be wary around anyone wielding a torch, because torches fuck you up like nothing else.

And if worst comes to worst, grind for some souls to buy molotov cocktails.

Finally, I managed to get to the first boss and get rekt! But at least I was able to level up my Vitality afterwards, so I think I might stand a chance tomorrow...

I just keep dying at

Do I need to level up or something? ?

Have been stuck on
Amelia
for 3.5 hours... I was attempting her at level 28 and apparently from what I'm reading that's extremely low. Blah. Looks like I need to get to 35-40 to make the fight considerably easier.

I really preferred the Estus system to constantly having to re-farm consumables while you figure out boss fights. This kind of sucks.

This is my early gripe with the game. I tried to summon someone, it ate up an insight, and nothing happened. Really disappointing since the summoning worked so well in Dark Souls 2 on day one.

Please tell me how to beat the cleric boss (I know about the riposte).

You can riposte it? I just butt stabbed it a bunch of times and threw 3 molotovs on my 3rd try. Worked fine.

If you have a ton of molotovs stocked up they do a shitload of damage, and also sometimes it's better not to dodge him and instead just calmly walk to his ass.

I am 18 hours in and I am just floored by how much there is to discover in this game. I revisited an area I thought I had explored thoroughly only to discover I'd missed TWO substantial secret rooms. One of which required a leap of faith to discover, falling onto ledges I wasn't quite sure would hold me.

I had high expectations but so far this is exceeding them.

So what do you all think about the replay ability in bloodborne? Not as high as the souls games?

With the chalice dungeons and overall enjoyment of a playthrough so far? Far more if you ask me.

But I'll wait for final judgement till I'm done. I'm barely even getting going but can already see myself replaying with every weapon in the game. Then god knows how much you'll get out of the chalice dungeons

Early game NPC related

can anyone confirm if the raven hunter still appears if you missed her and beat fg already? Really want me them warped twinblades

Well I'm done for the day.

My fight against V
icar
A
melia
went like this:

- first try, I got owned really quick
- second try, nice one that ended in a Double KO

With this I learned that contrary to other Souls games, a Double KO isn't automatically your loss! My blood echoes were waiting for me in the boss room and I got the item correctly before the end of the death screen.

I like this change.

There's a way to cheese them.
Run past them into the house (unless your starting from the house). If you get them to follow you they stop at the doorway and you can get them with a long slash.

you have to give it a bit ,it's not immediate.
3 times I've done it, it worked but it took a couple of minutes to find a match.

Man this game is soooooo brutal I've been dying way too much, just got to the first boss and died. I know I should feel like a noob but I know this is the nature of the game and I'm loving it sooooo much :)

How common are the upgrade materials???

I've upgraded my Saw Blade twice -- but now I've unlocked the KirkHammer, I might want to throw a few upgrades it's way. Am I going to run into trouble if I don't min/maxing. Because I really want to give each weapon I get my hands on a fair go, and I don't want to have trouble late game because I didn't specialise in one weapon

Better question, where can I find lots of molotovs? I had like 10 of them but used them all on those werewolves. I guess I'll just run through the enemies over and over again. woo

What's the point of view specter?

It seems broken. In previous Souls games a "blood stain" would show a phantom of the last 10 secs of a player before they died. It can be helpful to get a hint what's coming. So far, I see nothing when selecting them and I assume that is their purpose.
