You guys arent alone, I spent a good 3 hours last night on this bit gradually learning how to play the game (my first foray in the souls type games).

A great tactic that will save you being over run is to take care of the enemies on the main road then heaf up to the right (up the stairs. Then from there you can run down to the main path and lure them up the stairs three at a time and take care of the. Then you can bypass the sniper at the far end and run up to the opposite flank and take care of the dude on the coach and the wolf leaving you with the sniper at ground level.

Then unfortunately the next area us just as hard. I got what I thought was really far only to get absolutelt battered by a group of rats.....which threw me back at the starting area...

Does anyone have any tips for genuine noobs at these games. I feel like I have formed my own strategies but i dont think they are right...I seem to be almost winging it throug.

Still as hard as it isis, i played the same area for three hours straight, must be doing something right.

Also another silly question, when do I get another checkpoint/save. My nerves cant take It?

Heh, I remember me messing around with some weak ass skeletons early Dark Souls for hours and getting my ass kicked every. damn. time.

I do not have bb, but try to explore a bit, often progress is achieved through unlocking shortcuts and thus lessening the punishment of dying (people say this is the same for bb). Also, aside from honing your own skills and experimenting in the ways to approach a battle, pay good attention to enemy movesets. After getting my ass handed all the time in DS, I got fairly decent at the game and even slayed the git gud bosses without much trouble later on. And then you feel like an absolute baddass I promise you. I am really no great gamer. Learning from mistakes and always paying attention is key here. For example, sometimes I do not even fight a boss in DS initially, I just focus on dodging and learning it's movesets. And when I feel safe in doing that, I calculate in some well timed strikes to bring it down. Also, looking at how others play can teach you a lot.

So what happens if I inspect this thing on the alter here below mr mini gun? I have an idea but I've been past thus area and still haven't found another lamp so I don't want to have to back track all the way here.

The game may be too hard for me. I'm having to change strategies that I picked up in Demon's/Dark Souls. The thing that annoys me the most is the fact that enemies spam attacks instead of feeling as if their stamina is depleting (which helped a lot in Demon's/Dark Souls).

It's more like Demon's Souls though in terms of their being no bonfires every where and the overall world design and atmosphere.

Regarding the 3rd(?) boss up on the tower with the gun:
He fell off the tower and now I can't find him. Is there something I'm supposed to get from him?

Jesus christ, I got killed by those slow, weak fucks in the sewers. I'm definitely gonna have to find a way to farm insight before I start summoning people, I don't want to waste the few I have with stupid deaths. I'm not gonna make any progress today.

By the way, if I want to summon 2 people to help me, do I have to ring the bell twice? Ring once, wait for someone to arrive, ring again?

There are more lanterns after the first 3 bosses. Also fighting the enemies over and over helps to see/learn their attack patterns and then you know their "pauses" inbetween attacks.

You're welcome, and have fun with the game :)

Oh yeah is there a good tactic for the hunter in
Old Yharnam, the dude with the Mini Gun on Top? He totally wrecked me, he is so fucking fast, are there any good strategies for him?

Fast climb up the ladder while pressing O, once you get to the top start shooting him as soon as you can. After you hit him a couple of times he should fall off. If you can't get the item he drops just come back later after going back to the hunstmen's dream and it should be reachable after that.

So while watching my brother play we found out you don't even need to pass the wolves on the bridge to get to the first boss. He fell down somewhere at the house with the laughing women and landed at the place with the dogs in cages. He could just backtrack a bit to the house shortcut.

He's not a boss really, since he doesn't have a health bar on bottom of screen and you see his kind throughout the game.

If someone falls somewhere, if you die or quit and log back into the game, his loot will be where he spawned originally. Basically it'll go there, on the top of the tower, when if it's essential loot and the monster was 'unique' when the level resets. In this case it's a badge for more vendor weapons.

Keep at it...you are doing fine...when all your own strats start paying off then the rewards for investing in thsis game will be realized. As mentioned there is nothing that says you have to engage all enemies...some are better left and evaded. Usually the bigger and tougher they are the better their drop though! ;)

Tried to co-op with my friend. We both rang the respective bells in the same area but nothing happened. Matching passwords and both any region. Can I just chalk this up to launch window servers?

Probably.

I've also noticed that bloodstains aren't working as they should, so it's likely a server issue for the two of them.

Yes, i posted that earlier (fast moving thread i know). Haven't seen Cleric beast so far but are already fighting Father G (from the first lantern to the left through the gate instead of right).Struggled with the wolfs till i used the way after the drop and avoided them for a long time. Enemies in the sewers are not that hard.

Many also just run past the wolfs but i haven't tried that.

General good idea is to destroy all crates/objects in this game.

1) yes
2) yes
3) depends on what you want to buy. you can often farm items like blood viols and silverbullets. I would mainly use the echoes to level up and buy equipment and weapons you want

Yup, it seemed pretty clear that vials and bullets drop fairly often, so I've stuck to replacing my starter gear and doing some fortifying on my weapons so far.

Respawn of all the enemies. Depending on the area and your skill this can be a big con :)

Okay, so is it returning to the Hunter's Dream that triggers the respawn of the enemies? Is there a way to tell which enemies are dead forever and which ones will always come back?

Thanks for the info guys!

I'm having a nightmare with the Cleric beast.

I'm a souls veteran and this game is hard. So much harder in the early stages than the others.

I made a mistake picking the Cane/professional, I thought I would be able to handle this but the DPS from the cane just isn't good enough. I have a couple of options. Right now I have the cane +1 and 19 skill.

-I can try and get the Saw Spear, I think it's nearby but I don't really want to use a guide. I think there's some gear down there too? I have found the entrance to the sewers and I've opened the shortcut.

-I can re-roll and start again. I do like the Cane for crowd control but I'm wanting to use the Hammer/Holy blade as another weapon eventually. What's the stat requriements for those two? I don't want to look it up 'cos spoilers.

-I can grind some and loot up. I'm out of molotovs and vials, but there are enough vial drop enemies next to the short cut I suppose. It would take a few runs against the werewolves and the brick guys to get enough vials to get a proper go at him again.

Thoughts?

Man. Watching some videos of people playing this game is literally killing me. Don't want to call people bad or anything, but I see so many openings to attack and people not picking up items right away that I just want to shout at my monitor XD

Fuck UK game release dates making me resort to watching people play :[

Can someone please answer this question: Is there a way to install the game without actively playing it? I just don't want to get to a point while I'm playing whee I catch up to the install and have to stop playing. thanks.

I think you're talking about the drop to the sewers just before the wolves. The drop I was talking about is even earlier, at the place you see the guy with the brick slamming on the door.

Hmm, I think I might be doing something wrong.

After the first lantern I take a right, and fight through all the townsfolk and head into the courtyard where the big dude is slamming on the doors.. After that there's a very long section without any lanterns. I feel like I'm missing something, because it's a lot of progress to lose.

Anyone?

Played for 6 hours last night and just had a BLAST

Died a LOT but hey thats how I learn the game. I am a veteran souls player and monster hunter and even then there is an adjustment period

Had to readjust to all the new content and weapons

Started with the Cane which is actually pretty decent (struggles against certain enemies) but once I found the Saw Spear I was wreckin shit.

Beat the first two bosses and bought the 10000 Blood Cathedral key.

Amazing game so far and my only gripe is the same as everyone elses... Those load times man

I just used whip mode to get through it. Cane was +2 though, think I was like level 13 or so. Use molotovs to soften it up if you want.

That said you're early enough that if you want to restart, you may as well with a different build/weapon.

You need to open up doors and shortcuts that lead to the first two lanterns. You won't get more lanterns until you beat bosses.

(The routes are the gate next to upper lantern and the house near it)

Hammer goes to A scaling in STR eventually, I have it at +9 but not sure where it turned to A. It's a str weapon anyway, and my build has some arcane to support the okayish (C?) arcane stat it had. The equip was probably 18 str 10 skill or 16 str, can't check since I'm at work.

I saw someone complaining about how the checkpoints are "too far apart" and they lost hours of progress because of it

I don't know if I should tell them or not...

No. i mean the drop at the laughing woman which is hidden by barrels/boxes whatever. You can get to the house from there and open the shortcut to the lantern. Sewers are not really close there but i explored a lot after the drop and came to the sewers later.

The trick to Cleric Beast is simple. Stay behind him

Also Buy the Hunter Armor for the defense boost if you havent already. The attacks that hit behind him are his weakest attacks.

I just stayed glued behind him. If you take a few hits they are usually the weaker ones. Back off when neccessary to heal up and keep your distance till you have an opening to get to his back.

At first I was sceptical about that whole "stay aggressive and take risks" approach but now I see how awesome it is. If you can hone your skills you can end up becoming fucking rambo in this game.

Got into a fight with like 7 enemies at once and didn't have to seperate them to kill all of them.

You could almost never do that in previous Souls games

The cane does decent damage against the Cleric Beast, remember to mix it up with some molotovs and ripostes.

Its an amazing setup!

I find myself doing intricate dances with enemies now that I have wrapped my head around the new mechanics. It can be tricky.

You really have to know WHEN to go crazy and when to back off. The battle flow is really addicting

Don't forget the PVP
Striking, parrying, and dodging all day.

So I need to fight my way through those long parts of the game + getting the bosses right in one shot? That can't be for real.

its actually cool to be apart of an OT for once.

played a bit last night and got to the part with the two werewolves and got my butt kicked so hard... man i love it rockin no shield is so different from my tank build in the previous games it definitely keeps the tension up, every encounter has my heart racing

All enemies respawn except bosses, minibosses and killed NPCs (be careful). In DeS and DaS enemies respawn always when you used a bonfire/warped to nexus. In DaS II there was a limit to the respawning of enemies (which is bullshit). So far it seems that BB is like DeS and DaS (infinite respawn).
