its better than i expected for a dice sweden fb3 title, but its a looooong way from

i expect the game will be downgraded more by the time it releases.

who knows... maybe this is why DICE is making such a big deal about DX12... People like to say better efficiency with draw calls wont lead to better graphics, but i don't think that makes any sense.

I've never played any Star Wars game. I see that some people are worried that it will be more or less a reskinned Battlefield with Star Wars vehicles/weapons and other elements. (That sounds tight to me tho tbh)

What was/were the old multiplayer Star Wars game(s) like in comparison to the above description? Just curious.

From what people have described, Battlefront was always very similar to Battlefield.

The original Battlefront games were, in large part, reskinned Battlefield games so... it's come full circle.

You mean the original SW battlefront and Battlefront 2?

Battlefront has always just been mostly a reskinned Battlefield, that was the whole point. Biggest difference was that it was in third person and there was hero characters.

Thanks for the responses. I'll read up on that link too.

I dunno, I don't know nothin about the series lol.

Honestly I didn't know it was that big of a thing until fairly recently, nor did I know that the games were this praised. I knew the games existed (some of my rl friends talked about it) but I automatically put them in the "movie game = bad" pile and never really gave it much of a second thought.

Almost 90% of Star Wars games are not "Movie Games".

llool that pic.

I'd be willing to bet gaming will crash and burn long before we ever see a game that has graphics like those.

Unless, of course, it's a 5 hour shitfest with barely any content or something along those lines.

It will have a lot of content, but most of it will be multiplayer I bet. I may be wrong, but Battlefront started as multiplayer only and only in the sequel did they add a single player campaign.

Looking again, this screenshot doesn't look too different from Battlefield 4.

The lighting looks better and the textures look better (likely photomapped) but nothing that gives the impression of impossible to run at 900p60fps on PS4.

i agree, aside from lighting, none of the at looks unbelievable for a current gen game. hell Halo 4 and Skyrim had very dense vegetation that looked very good for last gen games in comparison to this screenshot.

I think people forget just how amazing BF4 actually looks on PC.

You really can't judge Frostbite 3 by how Hardline looks, I love that game but it's a few pegs below BF4 in terms of graphics.

its actually a lot better than the ugliness that is bf4, but i dont trust any media released by dice.

Here's my opinion, for what it's worth.

I think that shot is downsampled from higher than 4K.
I think they manually set up the lighting just for that shot using whatever tools they use (altering sun direction, for example).
I think they may have hand-placed point lights for maybe more impact on the character.
And I think they tweaked the depth of field specifically for that shot.

That said, this is something you can easily do in Battlefield 4 singleplayer using the extended cinematic tools.

You can produce some pretty crazy looking screenshots in Battlefield 4 like that. One of mine (and I suck with teh tools):

People weren't really crying "bullshot" at Dice's BF4 shots, were they?

Here's one of their promo shots.

Here's my attempt to replicate that in-game:

I didn't know how to use the point lights at the time, or I could have gotten closer.

Clearly they're using hand-placed point lights to punch up the visuals in their screenshots. There's also some different color grading in their shot.
That said, all the assets look just as high quality. Both shots are downsampled from very high resolutions (I downsampled mine from 6K). That's just industry standard practice though.

This year could be a topsy-turvy year: started off the year with huge promises and lots of potential and anticipation: Uncharted 4, Zelda Wii U, The Witcher 3, GTA V for PC, Batman Arkham Knight, and then came the delays of Uncharted 4, Zelda, Witcher, GTA, Batman, and now we are looking towards the hugely anticipated full trailer for Battlefront, in time for Christmas. Will this year be redeemed? Interesting the way this year is panning out, not the way I imagined at all!
