Metroid Prime 4 off screen GC footage

No, I dont want a fucking city with flak cannons shooting off, ships whizzing by, soldiers fighting, and people yapping lore for fuck sakes. Give me Samus, an empty jungle world, amazing ambient music, and areas to explore. WTF is this shit!?
It's not my thing either but these games regularly open up with some larger-scale mission and then quickly get to the isolation.

Heck, even the GOAT Super Metroid features backstory, text, voice acting, and other humans in its first minutes.

There is only one game poster in my room, its Metroid.

I might be a fan, but this should've been a jump, not a re hash.

Again, these trailers can be deceiving, there can be a good generational leap under the hood. Am open for that. But if it still feels pea shooter like on Wii, I will be disappointed for sure.

That's the Metroid style, no Metroid fan is asking for a change… Start in a war environment, lose all the equipment and Samus appears in a solitary and hostile environment, and the journey begins. That's all i want.

How about they show some of that.

I can comment on whatever is shown, its all shooting. It looks kinda lacklustre.

That boss at the end, it plays like how bosses played in MP3 on Wii, predictable repeated actions.

Would have much preferred some Returnal like 3rd person action, bosses that go nuts.

Did you missed the first trailer?

Bro you said it yourself. If you think that a game looks good based off of its polygonal count, texture resolution, or special effects, I don't know what to tell you. To me, the most important part of a game's visuals is the overall art direction. That's why games like Chrono Trigger, Wind Waker, Cuphead, Shadow of the Colossus, Yoshi's Island, Bloodborne, Journey, Okami, etc. are still all gorgeous to this day.

No one is arguing that Prime 4 is technologically advanced, or pushing the latest in visual tech. But it has excellent visual design and style so far, and if Prime Remastered is any indication, there will be great set pieces and style throughout the whole game.
That's the issue though. Personally, i haven't seen anything about this game that shows it has good art design like past Prime games:

I don't think MP4 has shown something that looks as distinct and interesting design wise yet. The forest area in the trailer looks cool but not on the same level IMO. Most of the other stuff they showed looks generic.

Are you expecting that Nintendo is going to show the whole game before release?

It looks good in that footage. I'd also like to see an improvement to the FPS combat over the previous games but even if there's no improvement I'll still buy it. The Metroid gameplay loop is the primary reason to play these games but improved combat would make it even better.

I get that.

But I want to see it being better.

When I saw this trailer, it just struck me as something I have seen/done before, like a decade ago.

Hopefully its not exact same thing.
For better or worse I think we should just expect more Metroid Prime out of this installment tbh. I doubt they'll take any major risks after already having scrapped the entire project prior with Bandai Namco.

They seem to be nailing the music at least, very distinctly Metroid Prime.

Then you are not a Metroid Prime fan… Because that exactly what i want. If not broke then don't try to fix it.
I will likely enjoy it even on same template.

But game dev takes so long these days, this would be a missed opportunity.

Especially when we have games with so much better atmosphere these days. Metroid franchise unfortunately is lagging behind, not just in gunplay.

Sorry but Prime Remaster has better atmosphere than 99.9% of the games out there… IMO.

It's 2025 and people still complain about the gunplay in Metroid Prime ?

"Shooting" is just a mean on Metroid, it is absolutely not the core of the experience. So it needs to stay simple and effective, because you have a lot of other things you have to do.

For example Doom Eternal gunplay has no place in Metroid. Micro managing health and ammo with too many buttons for the controller just sucks.

Nobody ever complained about the gunplay in 2D Metroid games.
Yeah the usual excuse we heard for every nintendo game with shit combat...

Nobody buy (put name of 90% of nintendo brand name) for combat, even if you actually fight a shitload of times during the game...

Shit is old and tired but i guess the apologist think they are super slick with this stuff.

Metroid Prime is not DOOM. At least try the game first…

I played the primes dude, it doesn't matter, you still fight a lot in these games, you don't have an enemy encounter every 30 min, asking for a better gunplay in 2025 is not the impossible task you think it is, and nobody said that it has to match doom, going from their current gunplay to doom there at least 3852749273846 half steps they could take to not make look their combat like something from 2005 or worse.

Not that i was expecting reasonable response from your ultra defensive ass of course :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I didn't really know the franchise before playing the remake, and I was surprised how good the game was (minus the fact that I am stuck, I have absolutely no idea where I need to go after beating the big rocky boss, I just keep going back and forth between the levels)

Now imagine how revolutionary the game was back in 2002.

Gunplay?

That's an odd choice of a word.

Metroid was never really a "gunplay" game. It was never about "aiming your gun to shoot at the enemies". It's more about having the firepower and upgrades to make those enemies are less of a threat or obstacles for you. Sure, you can say that for every game but Metroid is mostly about that. Making your character more and more powerful in order to make as much of the map feel safer and easier to traverse. So it doesn't matter if you hit the space pirate on the head to do more damage. What matters is you having the right tools and firepower to render him useless no matter what.

I feel like the transition to first person perspective have caused a lot of people to expect a different game. In reality, the Prime games are no different than their 2D versions. They are the same games but from a different camera view. Have you ever complained about "gunplay" in the 2D games though?

What do you mean by fire power upgrades?

There are different beams that are different in power, that's about it. There are no upgrades. When you enter a new area with powerful enemies, you tend to have correct weapon/ beam type.

What do you mean by fire power upgrades?
I mean, the more missiles/power missiles you have, the more you are willing to spend on normal enemies to dispatch them quicker.

Other stuff like power bombs and charge shot also deal more damage.

But yeah, i will agree that the colored beam stuff in Prime 1 wasn't great. I prefer the weapon stack in Super Metroid.
