Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

Life is Strange bought!

But now I only have $25 in my steam wallet so Dark Souls 2 SotFS better go cheaper so that I have enough for another 1 or 2 cheap games.

Is the base game enough, or should I get the expansions as well?
The expansions are great, but the base game already has a ton of content.

It probably depends on whether you want to play the campaign or custom scenarios/MP. If the former, just the base game is enough at first, you can still get the expansions later.

The expansions are really good, particularly Eternal Lords. They both add all sorts of new stuff to the game; a new campaign, race, units, systems, and items, with EL adding two races and a new class - all aspects of the game are improved!

Though I will say that the Deluxe DLC is more for the soundtrack than anything. AoW3's music doesn't do much for me, so I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. That said, grabbing all three DLCs in the bundle would be cheaper than just avoiding the Deluxe DLC, according to the prices I see anyways.

Yeah, buying the Collection is cheaper than getting the base game + 2 expansions. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow unless there are some crazy good daily deals tomorrow.

Finally, Dying Light! May also have to double dip on Shovel Knight.

Is Dying Light worth the current price (~$45), or should I wait for it to drop further in price eventually?

EDIT: Whoops, just saw the IndieGala price. I'm getting it there.

Life is Strange is an odd deal. The picture says episode 3 is 50% off, the store page says episode 1 is 50% off and the series is only 20%? What a downer!

Is AOW3 more of Civ series or more of the HoMM series?
Hmm.

It's pretty close to 50/50 I'd argue. It has battles you control, like HoMM (quite a bit more interesting actually strategically IMHO, especially city sieges). But it also has the ability to actually found cities on the map and build roads like in Civ, as well as research etc.

Picked up grid Autosport. For those that have given it a good go how is it?

How's Grid for 10€?

Need a racer to keep me busy before Forza6 and PjCars didn't do nothing for me :/

I really liked it. Not quite a sim, but handling feels plausible. But what I think it does best is the on track racing with other cars - really fun. It has a jank cockpit mode, but I didn't mind it, and it is a big improvement from having nothing like Grid 2.

Damn, Age of Wonders 3 is a good price. Best value per dollar by far. I already have 300+ hours in it. Even if people don't bite on the expansions the base game is really really good.

Lots of good games today with shitty discounts though (before anyone jumps on me I have FTL). I'm going to spend today debating picking up Life is Strange Complete Season even though its only 20% discount I really want to play it, maybe Dead State too...

Could you name the other Metroidanias that are better? I know there's Ori and Outland... anything else I should be looking for?

Guacamelee, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Batman: Blackgate HD, heck even Steamworld Dig is sort of a Metroidvania which i had more fun with than Strider. That doesn't means strider is bad, it's just not the best option available. Axiom Verge is considered by many one of the best Metroidvanias out there right now so there's that too.

I want rayman pretty bad but have had really bad experiences with uplay... has it improved recently? is it tolerable?

Origins has no Uplay, Legends i believe does. Both games are great and Uplay is much better these days.

No kidding. I first checked out its Steam page when it was unlocked during the monster game yesterday, and I was like, damn, this is kind of like a Sonic clone, but a good one.

Come on people there were other platformers on the Genesis besides the Sonic trilogy :/
There was Rocket Knight!

Of which Lilac is based on along with Sonic.

If you're of a mind to, give this a listen. https://www.idlethumbs.net/3ma/episodes/2014-king-of-years (Skip to 14-minutes or so.) Fraser Brown giving his thoughts on Distant Worlds: Universe during TMA's GOTY show from a few months ago.

Larry Monte has a pretty decent tutorial style series on the game. It has a lot of moving parts, but you can pretty much let AI run most of them and get into it one system at a time.

Thanks for pointing these out.

Can the heroes in AOW3 be of any use or get really powerful?

I like HoMM4 for the reason of useful heroes .. even powerful enough to take on late tier creatures with right skills and items.

Neverending Nightmares is still a little more then I want to spend, but Rayman Legends is pretty tempting, it doesn't go that low that often anymore.

Guys don't forget that Rayman Legends includes Rayman Origins. (Legends uses Uplay, not sure about Origins)

Ok, so I'm gonna get Age of Wonders 3, should I get any of the expansions? What do they add?

Wish Life is strange was cheaper through steam. Also really tempted to pick up Ori. Seems like a good price for a great game as I've heard.

Still wondering if I should jump in for Shovel Knight at this price, or wait to see if it ever comes to PS plus one month. Same thing with Ori since I won't be able to play them right away.
