DOOM Gameplay Demo (E3 2015)

I hope it's as truly unlimited as they claim. I need Doom, Doom II, and both episodes of Final Doom remade within the first year.

Remember that remake of Knee Deep in the Dead someone made for the Doom 3 engine? Such a tease.

Supposedly, a remade version of DOOM 1 will be DLC (possibly a pre-order bonus). The same person who leaked that also leaked SnapMap before E3.

Oh my god yes please. I just played through the original for kicks over the weekend. Amazing how well such a simple game holds up. I had a lot of fun.

I don't know if Plutonia is really possible cause no water physics in this game and no jungle vines to get the mood right.

I reckon this hypothetical Doom 1 DLC will use this new Doom's monsters, weapons, items and movement, etc., if it is real.
And i figure people will complain about it endlessly because of that...

I wonder if Doom will have co-op play for the campaign. Probably not?

Sell me a "Classic Monster Skin Pack", I'd buy. Long as I don't have to have my first encounter with the Cyberdemon be hilarious because wow.

They ain't going to do one.
At least, i sincerely believe no such thing is ever going to happen.

Doesn't matter where you look, demons and monsters are over-designed, over "cool" nowadays, i think.
Don't know if it is the attitudes ("more spikes, scary and cool") or the computing power available... but i figure this is one thing that won't change.

Unfortunately.

(Starcraft 2 is a good example of shit designs. Both the zerg and protoss have lost all the spirit and feel of the originals and are overdesigned. Actually, any modern Blizzard game. But don't think it is limited to them.)

Tbh, I really like what I've seen so far with this new Doom. I don't think the movement speed is too slow. Maybe if they allowed bunnyhopping or whatever the strafe running thing is called in Doom. The color scheme I thought was actually pretty did. To my eyes it doesn't seem like there is a filter over it, and peoples comparison images seem pretty cherry picked.

My god the combat just looks so refreshing from everything that I have seen. Tbh I'm not just looking for another quake-esque arena maps that I can skillhack my way through. All that contextual melee or attacking where you look on the enemy was insane. The chainsaw stuff could be a little less scripted though.

Adam Sessler asked Marty if we can create Doom 1 in SnapMap and Marty said "You can try! lol", which leads me to believe it's not really possible to do a 1:1 remake. I hope I'm wrong.

Which makes me quite glad that I bought the game on launch day after seeing the reviews were quite positive. Hell, I've often made the joke "I paid $60 for access to the DOOM beta and it just so happens to come with this really cool game called 'Wolfenstein: The New Order'."

I did the same thing ;)

Who knew the 2nd reboot of Wolfenstein could be so good?

Also as many have said, I'm concerned with the speed, but that should be addressed once the Beta actually gets announced at Quakecon and then we can finally get our hands on it...

Somehow i'd imagine that would be a multiplayer beta. And there's no guarantee MP changes affect singleplayer. Logically they should keep them same but... Well...

Assuming Bethesda does intend to release Doom DLC, I'll be surprised if it's the whole campaign. I mean, the intention may be to remake the original Doom's mission line in its entirety, but I'd wager the only sure thing at this stage is the first episode, with the later two being contingent upon sales, especially after Rage sold below expectations to the point that Bethesda has never provided figures.

That is the most bland and generic thing I've ever laid eyes on.

The only thing I like is the plasma rifle model, that thing looks awesome.

The cyber demon is the one design I really don't like. Hope that gets tweaked.

Ditto!

They should stick to what inspired DOOM for the original Barons of Hell too...

This game is like METAL!!! BLOOD!!!! KICK MONSTERS IN THE FACE!!! LOOK AT ALL THIS GORE NOW!!!! ORANGE!!! BROWN!!! I mean, I'm wondering just how long this will be fun before my sepia washed eyeballs give up on the tedium.

The make-up in that film is excellent; even the goblins look amazing. I tried to get my five year old to watch it a while ago, but she got a bit scared so we couldn't.

I wish they would have kept the old colors instead.

Is the bottom one a real screen from the new Doom? Holy shit; they pinched Human Revolution's piss yellow filter!

I'm not 100% sure about what I think yet, but I'll be getting it if only for the nostalgia. I've missed old school Id, particularly Quake actually, but this will do.

I also think the colour grading could use a little tweaking, but I'm not on board with the all out old school colours. Looks a little too cartoony

Why do the cacodemons look so tired? I laugh every time I see them in screenshots. I don't even expect them to attack. They are like your lazy friends that just woke up hungover in the middle of the afternoon, "Oooh hey guyyys, what's going on?"

Edit: Also legit cacodemon critique: they look way too small. They were big balls of bullet sponge in the last one. They look too dinky. As does the cyberdemon.

Assuming that Doomguy is ~76in (~193cm), with his head appearing square to the Cyberdemon's nutsack, that would make the Cyberdemon about 15-16ft (~4.8m) tall, which seems to be about the same size at least as the DOOM 3 counterpart.

EDIT: Correction, he still seems to be roughly in the 15-20ft area in Classic DOOM

What is turning me off as a longterm Doom fan now that some time has passed since the reveal:

- finisher kills should only be in beserker mode not all the time
- the monsters dont look like doom monsters
- monsters have the wrong color
- sound effects are not good and to much like doom 3 -- looking at you plasma gun
- gunplay dosnt convince me yet
- chess gameplay of doom 1 & 2 intact?
- deus ex piss filter
- monsters dont fight themselves
- weapons dont look doom like

to me the Cyber Demon looks like Blizzard designed it, like it came straight out of Diablo 3

Cyber demon doesn't look intimidating to me, it needs to be scarier

Rewatching the video video from gamersyde at 60fps, the game is pretty fast-paced. The hell gameplay gets crazy fast at the end, they clearly weren't moving as quickly as they could in the factory. Weird considering they were talking about speed right before he footage rolled.

The biggest knock for me is the highlighting of enemies that can be melee'd. Completely unnecessary.

But seriously, Snapmap looks so damn good. Modders are going to have a field day with that.

As someone who has been working on a Half life 2 mod like a full time job, I was literally yelling at my screen with hype.

Like this is the kind of stuff I wanted as a kid, so hype it's unreal. If it somehow sucks my angry screams will be Vegeta tier.
