Man, I was thinking of getting into the 80$ tier, but apparently the dollar is expensive as hell in my country, essentially increasing the price 1,5x of what I was expecting. Shit.

i was really hoping sega would announce 1+2 hd while the kickstarter campaign was still going, because it would definitely drive some more pledges from people who are willing to back it now that they know they can easily play 1+2

but...i'm kinda starting to lose hope. though i still think they'll do it at some point, because it'd be silly not to.

I was just talking about this in an other thread. I think it's a matter of time after the successful Kickstarter so I don't feel that we should give Sega money to release two very old games.
It would drive more pledges but that money wouldn't make Shenmue 3 a better game, it would be used to pay Sega.
I see that it might be better in this way than not having those games at all but imo Sega is going to release them by themselves, the kickstarter will be the actual proof there is market demand for them.

Probably should've paid better contractors then. It's a Kickstarter, the pitch is everything. Bout to pledge though so eh.

I don't think you can do better than an announcement at a Sony E3 press conference for your pitch video. There is really nothing wrong with the pitch itself, they just needed a few better reward tiers.

I mean, the pitch and proof of concept is Shenmue 1 and 2. It is Suzuki and a ton of the staff from the original games that are making Shenmue III.

We know what we're getting.

Shenmue is a tree that Yu invented. It's flowers are called Shenhua which is where Shenhua gets her name.

I knew that for X years but just now realised that the story is probably going to involve Shenhua's father in some big way (Shenmue = father of the flower that is Shenhua).

The core fans know what they are getting, but sadly due to the scarce availability of Shenmue I (which was only ever released on the Dreamcast) and the fragmented release of Shenmue II this is still going to be a bit of a hard pitch regardless for people who aren't familiar with the series and want to check out the first two before pledging. This isone of those cases where I wouldn't be apposed of checking the original games out through DC emulation.

Shenmue III is a inherently flawed Kickstarter in that respect, especially when asking for more than 10 million. But there definitely is a lot of good will for this project and at this rate is looking to pull in more than 6 million dollars. If we see an upturn in pledges, then it could possibly pull in more than 7 million, which is still a huge sucess by kickstarter standards.

I'm decorating my new apartment and I'm caught up in the Shenmue euphoria. Where can I get some shenmue themed goods? Cushions maybe or just something to hang on the wall? I'm actually in Japan but I don't usually buy 'character goods'

How well is Shenmue received in Japan? Is it popular over there? Was the kickstarter for s3 big news there?

Shenmue sold very well in Japan. But that was back then. Now, the Japanese console market is tiny and PC is niche too. I don't know how many of the Kickstarter backers are Japanese, but it would be interesting to see whether projects like this and the FFVII remake bring some life back into the Japanese console market.

Man, they should really consider putting in some artwork (or even in-game footages) for the villages in the stretch goal and really explain how these villages could expand/be improved as we hit more of those stretch goals. At this point, all the footage/artwork we have of the game is of Ryu and Shenhua by the river.

It's a good teaser, but not what makes us hungry. Make us hungry for those villages, goddamnit!

But seriously, it's good to see the campaign organizers step up the plate. The $80 might be controversial, but I think it's a good step if they want to have more people pledge in larger money.

well yu suzuki put a few sketches up on twitter. as for footage there's likely none to show yet. this is the kickstarter after all.

Some Kickstarters actually prepare some of the environments before the campaign and slowly tease them throughout. It's a great strategy to really show how the game could expand given higher funding.

Numbers for July 7:

$67974 net gain
$65520 earned from the new $80 and $800 tiers. (359 * $80) + (46 * $800)
574 new backers

I also started tracking the change in the tiers since they added the new tiers, but don't have a full day's worth yet. Not sure if it's worth posting about though.

There must have been a lot of people upping their pledge to the new tiers because the $29 tier lost 2 backers per hour, the $60 physical PC tier lost almost 4 backers per hour, and the $500 tier lost about 1 per hour. However, the $60 physical PS4 tier still gained 3 backers per hour.

I've done my duty and pledged 175€ for the good cause.

Btw do we know if bonus stuff like t-shirts and artbooks are shipped before the release of the game?

Since it's running on UE4, will this offer people the option to mod the game?

Lots of dedicated fans out there, just imagine what could be created as seen in other PC titles.

I know I will be picking up both PS4/PC versions.

it depends entirely if the dev actually has any money to make anything.

I have the Insert Coin Hazuki jacket hanging up in my living room (but only because the jacket would be destroyed if worn all the time. Not good quality)

You could buy the recent print and get a nice frame.

On another thought, you could replicate the calligraphy scrolls like the ones in this thread
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44646

Or if you are on a budget, or just don't like spending money you could just print off any high resolution Shenmue image you like and put it in a nice frame (like a £10 IKEA one)

I kind of wish I could stay spoiler free during this process. Going to follow this like a mother fucker until the end of the KS (and any additional funding) then going to submerge like motherfucking Kojima during MGS2 press.

That said, stoked about closing in on 4.5. Just last week felt like we were eternally floundering in the 3.x decimals. 5m has always been the stretch goal one I've wanted most, with 6 trailing right behind it. Proud to be among Shenmue fans.

ncredible animation for 1999.

I always thought Shenmue's animation was surprisingly plausible while stylish, and never fell into cartoony. Had a ton of respect for that.

Shenmue 3 is the kickstarter of the day: https://www.kickstarter.com/

Awesome! I keep wondering how we're going to keep riding these fumes and not stop momentum of something going each day before the end, and its been happening in wonderful ways lately.

Good pont. As if to believe theres no difference between 5.1 and 5.8 million. I'm sure it would do something to the expansion or denseness to the world. Although I still want to experiences it new, so maybe not too detailed.

The original Shenmues contained Hang-on, Space Harrier, Outrun and Afterburner arcade games. I really hope they include new ones. I would even be find if they sneaked in a genesis emulator with all their rom games. Personally i'd like to see VF1-4 games included.

there's a pretty good cover of the darts theme in a shenmue piano medley, and it got me thinking.

you know how you can have two more games if you reach a certain score? it'd be cool if the music progressed the more games you had. like say you're going against a darts rival and it goes all the way to the third round. the music starts off mellow like the darts music we're used to, then builds over the next two rounds into something really tense.

honestly i'm just really excited to hear more samples of the soundtrack to this game.

I knew that for X years but just now realised that the story is probably going to involve Shenhua's father in some big way (Shenmue = father of the flower that is Shenhua).
Fathers and their offspring is a running motif in Shenmue. Ryo's searching for his father's killer, Lan Di killed Iwao to avenge his own father, so that's not a far-fetched theory.

Thx for that!
For those who didn't see you can download wallpaper size here, and buy a physical print here (50 only)

Good. Very good. And no troll pledges to make us go back and forth this time, apparently. Next stop at 5, hope it comes soon-ish.
That kind of annoying behavior tends to disappear as things become less new and zeitgesty, and low attention span trolls start looking for some new parade to rain on.

Just barely beat me to it!

I'm sure being Kickstarter project of the day is giving the campaign a nice little boost.

I don't know if it is giving it much of a boost so far, but it's early in the day still, and in particular the US is only just starting their day. Still we should comfortably be above what we were doing pre-PS4 physical.

We are about 45k away from needing a million in the last week to surpass Bloodstained.
