Honestly, the Uncharted series is one of the most overrated and brain dead series I have ever played.
You have a very limited knowledge of gaming if that's all you could come up with.
It's definitely not harmful, it's absolutely a good step forward.
And not everything has to subvert to be great. It can just be a plain old reflection of life written in a well balanced way.
When? In popular fiction, I can't think of many examples of explicit heterosexual relationships with empowered, "tomboyish/masculine" women at all. Especially playable/main characters.
LGBT: Ellie, Korra, Athena (Borderlands), Ciri, Chie...
Asexual: Furiosa, Katniss (she is portrayed as not being thrilled with her time with Peeta), Lara Croft (possibly LGBT)...
Straight: Fetch from Infamous and er... Claire Redfield?
Nonplayable is a different issue, with characters like Jack from Mass Effect coming into play, but even then it's the story of Male Shepard romancing Jack instead of the other way around.
Look, my core point is that Bill sexuality was great because it subverts expectations of what a gay man "is supposed to be like" according to popular media. Ellie's sexuality is a bland development because she's everything society tells us lesbians/bisexuals are (in a manner that is totally baseless and harmful for women in general, as behavior/style should never be indicative of sexual preference).
I just finished playing (and getting the platinum for) Bloodborne. I have to say it was my least favourite of From's "Souls" RPGs (using the quotes because I know it's not technically a Souls game). It was the first time I never really felt the need to create a new character for another playthrough.
Chie as in Chie from Persona?
Oh FFS people, can't a girl be friendly with a girl without her being immediately Yuri-fied? There's NO indication whatsoever that Chie swings that way in that game, it's just ridiculous.
Yep, there's all sorts of stuff going on between Yukiko and her, but it's really a Harley and Ivy type deal. Nothing confirmed. Still, I've seen them mentioned in a lot of LGBT threads.
You might as well say " can't someone write a girl who can be friendly with a girl without them both being immediately Yuri-fied?" Evidence points to "no" when at least one of those girls could be thought of as fitting a male role.
Considering the fact that you think Chie is gay based on 'evidence' that amounts to her being a tomboyish friend, you are guilty of what you describe. Guessing somebody's sexual preferences based on behaviour/style.Ellie's sexuality is a bland development because she's everything society tells us lesbians/bisexuals are (in a manner that is totally baseless and harmful for women in general, as behavior/style should never be indicative of sexual preference).
i lost 1 hour to that backward ass save point system.
LOL
The Last of Us: Left Behind screwed up Ellie's character.
The exploration of Bill's sexuality in the main game was awesome because he's everything mainstream society says gay men are not: Empowered, confident, competent and skilled.
The exploration of Ellie's sexuality in the DLC took a really unique female character and made her into a stereotype. Modern writers still can't write a empowered female character with combat skills and traditionally boyish behavior who is explicitly straight. Nor can they address the huge lack of platonic friendships between female characters in fiction.
Many people treated it as a groundbreaking moment, but making tomboyish girls lesbians is same-old same-old. When Princess Peach starts making out with ladies, then I'll be impressed.
On Topic: The Evil Within should have been the 2014 GOTY, performance be dammed. Though I think it will be thought of more positively as time goes on ( and if it gets patched more).
GAF reflects the gaming landscape. Right now, Sony are the outright leaders this gen in sales terms so it makes sense there might be a few more Sony fans here these days. If Xbox or Nintedo start kicking ass, or Sony fuck up big time, things would likely be very different around here.
I actually thought your point on Left Behind was really interesting but now you're just veering off into goofiness.Yep, there's all sorts of stuff going on between Yukiko and her, but it's really a Harley and Ivy type deal. Most modern Nintendo games are pretty boring.
The combat in the witcher 3 is pure garbage. It's a shame because the game does so many other things right.
The existence of The Evil Within is going to be forgotten unless a sequel is made.
I think video games are fun.
A comment like that shows that they don't understand how the save system works in the first place. Taste doesn't even enter the equation.Yeah, I think they're fairly flawed games too; it's reasonable to have issues with them for one reason or another. But complaining about losing three hours of progress to one error and about the "ass-backwards save system" (which really isn't particularly punishing) shows bad taste.
No there aren't, and it's nothing but a bunch of hyperactive imagination of people who have nothing better to do with their time.
Look, LGBT characters are cool, sure, but when people start ascribing things to characters that aren't there just to satisfy their Yaoi/Yuri fangirling/fanboyish stuff then I personally think it's just really annoying.
Especially so since Yaoi/Yuri fangirls/fanboys tend to immediately create scenarios in their heads whenever they see guy-guy or girl-girl friendships. Geezz.

The implication is there and it's pretty explicit. Yukiko's shadow referring to Chie as her "strong prince," Chie's shadow being a dominatrix that represents her control over Yukiko, the whole "My soulmate is a girl?" thing, etc.
That's not really speculative, it's a pretty concrete suggestion that there are deeper feelings between the two. Feelings that the writers chose to include, again, because Chie is a tomboy and tomboys can't be purely platonic friends with girls.
So yeah, it falls into a similarly problematic category as the other examples.
No not really. They're just very good friends. Not a single time in P4 or P4G it was suggested that Yukiko and/or Chie has romantic feelings toward each other.
Oh, and if what you say is true then Naoto should also want to bang all the female characters in the game. And don't forget Marie as well, in P4G. I mean, they're tomboys too, you know; Naoto even more so than Chie.
Shenmue games are boring.
Conker's Bad Fur Day is mediocre.
Twin Snakes is better than the PS1 original.
Fallout 3 is better than New Vegas and Obsidian doesn't deserve all the praise they get.
ill be shocked. Game journalist love to shit on qtes especially on a retail game.

FF10 is one of the worst ff games
Not sure if this is a controversial opinion but Gamergaters and Antigamergaters are just as bad as one another and it is basically impossible to discuss the topic of sexism within the games industry because the loudest voices on both sides are the dumbest.
Smash games are cool right up until people take them too seriously and think they're playing a real fighting game.
I'm not gonna lie, I have absolutely no clue which side of "gamergate" is which. I also don't really know what the whole deal is about. I know it's sexism, but I have no idea where it's centered.
Gaf is diverse for sure. No denying that fact. Maybe it's the way view topics, but I still stand by it. I'll give you an example. Last gen, people here destroyed MS for having 3rd party exclusive content, CoD for instance. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it's alright that Sony is doing it. Granted not all are alright with it, but MS got owned here for doing it. Another example, everytime there is a game that's releasing on Xbox One and PC, inside the thread, everyone has to say "I'll get this on PC". Why state this? If it's a MS Game Studio game, you are still paying MS. From my viewpoint, it's more severe in MS threads than Sony's when a game is releasing on PC too. Like I said, this is my opinion.
I agree with this, Smash has been ruined for me by a few people I used to play with getting super competitive. Makes it so you just can't play the game for a laugh anymore.
Lol, no. GAF worships Vita and thinks no one wants to play NSMB games. GAF thinks Bayonetta was the best game released last year. GAF passionately hates Paper Mario Sticker Star. GAF hates mobile games. You get the point![]()

I love my Vita but the "THREE THOUSAND VITA GAMES COMING!" topic where we're treated to a PS3 indie port from two years ago, an obscure Japanese RPG that's somehow the secret best game ever (and isn't), and a Looney Tunes minigame collection that would make the App Store blush is a little much.
