Are those HD emulated shots? Or did the game always look this good (especially the character models). I always loved the sparring matches in Shenmue II, especially in the absence of the free training areas like you got in the original.

Which also reminds me of one of my favourite sections in Shenmue II - doing the street fights/arena matches against the various opponents in Kowloon. It felt kinda like a fighting game in progression at that point - fighting in various street fights to raise your profile so that you could then go up against the three "boss" characters which in themselves felt very much like three reskinned Virtua Fighter battles. Can't wait to see what fights the third game has planned. Between the 70 man fight at the end of the first game and the entire third disc of Shenmue II I have fairly high hopes of III being fairly awesome indeed.

I still dont get why they dont have a PC digital + retail tier. Would make sense to give people a copy of both if they want one.

I'd like to see PC digital + PS4 retail, feat phone card, for about a hundred bucks. People would be all over that.

Yeah it's HD emulated, but the character models have always looked that good. I took this off-screen photo of Shenmue II on Xbox360 Backwards Compatible play a few years ago. It's still very clean looking, I guess in a way it's basically still emulated though. I remember it looking pretty clean in the OG Xbox as well. Even the Dreamcast version through VGA looks really good.

And yep, loved the sparring in Shenmue 2, it was much better and more frequent than in S1.

Sure. They have loads of tiers anyway and most of the new ones have been the higher ones. Maybe they should look into introducing some new tiers for people who dont want to spend more than 100 dollars.

They should certainly think about doing a $50 tier with digital game + phone cards.

Shenmue looks insanely great on my Dreamcast through standard connectors. The output is just so clean, and the main character models look stunning.

It really was ahead of its time in both game design and graphics. Even Ryo had facial animations in battles.

Very nice :) I use a CRT for my Dreamcast and it still looks incredibly good on that. I agree, the main character models for both Shenmue games looked incredible for the time, and still look really good now.

Have played it on both my CRT and Samsung LED. Looks great on both. Actually surprised how great it looks on my Samsung.

Those character models are jaw-dropping. Nozomi is lovely and milky looking, and Fuku-san looks lovable, low IQ and all.

I see.

What type of VGA adapter are you using?

We broke $4.6 million, people. Providing no one drops out within the next hour, we got Baisha Village Expanded Battle Event in the bag.

Now on to the next very important goal, Character Perspective System. Another $400,000 to go...

Only 7 days to go and my credit card haven't arrived yet because of the post service strike :(
I hope I get it in time or I get a prepaid card at the gas station so I can back this!

I never played a Shenmue (yes, shame on me). But what do things like 'Battle Event' and 'Character Perspective System' entail?

(also, I think it's a bit weird that subtitles in a different language are $100.000 goals. Localisation can be a time consuming and expensive job, but 100k seems a bit much to me, that's almost like 4 years of average USA income)

The stretch goals are indeed pretty crappy from here-on-in. Everybody just wants the Kickstarter to reach ten million now, so that we can breath a sigh of relief knowing that Suzuki can make the full-fledged sequel he has in mind without taking shortcuts somewhere.

the character perspective system is a character switching system with a twist. the different characters will have different reactions and actions within the game world.

battle event hasn't been elaborated on, but it probably means a big fight of some kind. or a street fighting opportunity like in shemue II.

localisation costs as much as i'd expect it would, especially with a game like shenmue which has a lot of dialogue for main characters and npcs.

What program is he using at 1:00 in the video? Looks sort of like UE4, but I don't recognize the editor he's in. Also, is that the inside of Man Mo Temple?

Man, the music in the new update video.... Hnnngggg.

Also, what is the Shibuya scramble scene referenced?

In Shenmue there are several big fight battles. Probably a 'boss fight' of some sorts.

Character perspective system will allow you to switch and play as different characters, and experience the same situation from a different perspective.

After they are done with new rewards they should really think about making a new reward list chart and putting it on top of the KS site for everyone to see.

Its one of the first games i recall to show faces in a game, in a way you can read. They really figured out how ethnic to make them look, while giving life to their eyes and contrast between them. Compared with generically vague models like Devil May Cry or even MGS2s which sometimes lacked details, theyre extremely defined in Shenmue. The Passports like a nice testament to the work put into that department.

Kicktraq's algorythm gives an expected finale funding between 4.87M and 5.61M$.
Bloodstained closed campaign with 5.54M$.

That's why the match is so uncertain.

the algorithm isn't actually taking into account of any changes in pledge numbers though. it didn't see the ps4 boost coming and it won't see any last minute rush coming either.

Yeah, it remains a cold algorythm, but it shows what should be evolution of the project if there are no surprising announcements.

they don't need any surprise announcements to get the final boost though, none of the other kickstarters did that and still got their boost.

we shouldn't set ourselves up for disappointment for them to pull something crazy out in the final week.
