SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Has there been any detail about what there is to do in Choubu and Bailu if the stretch goals are not meet? My fear is that the last 2/3's of the game will feel empty compared to Baisha.

My (unrealistic) hope is that a multi-millionaire will put in 5 million the last hour of the kickstarter so we can get everything. At the very least I would like for us to reach 7.5 million so we get a better fighting system.

yu suzuki revealed last night that there will still be part time jobs in chobu no matter if the 9 million goals are met or not, so a lot of those stretch goals seem to be expansions of what's already going to be there.

those combat goals are important though.

So he needs 10 million to do a true sequel, are they funding after the KS? Or any investors? Any information on this?

I wonder what that Ragdoll system is, Havok based knockdowns?

no. a comment yu suzuki made was misconstrued and then passed around as fact. he's going to make he best game he can no matter the budget.

in terms of features he's said he'd like to have, he has only mentioned the 5 million goal, which we're close to crossing.

ragdoll probably has something to do with throws and knocking down opponents. last night we found out the higher ground battle system had something to do with using the environment in combat.

Didn`t he say that the size of Shenmue 3 will be the same size at the town in Shenmue 1, meaning that Shenmue 3 actually will be way smaller than Shenmue 1?

you've never played shenmue II? you're in for a ride.

I don't know why not, I played Shenmue pretty much when it came out even though I was super young at the time. It's still one of my favourite games ever to this day, but nobody at home ever got around to buying the sequel and I've never really had the thought of playing is coincide with me having the money to do so, so I've never had it available to play until now. I just finished replaying Shenmue a few days ago and putting S2 in for the first time is quite the moving experience for me, seeing these locales I've heard a lot about over many, many years but never played in, knowing there's a whole lot more exploring to do. I really can't wait to see what it holds.

I'm not sure the actual order of the chapters in Shenmue III will put Baisha first. In fact, it would make sense for Bailu Village to be first, according to the Shenmue II ending.
So maybe the game will be unbalanced but we will get the meatier parts later, feeling like a nice progression.

In fact in the Yu Suzuki Q&A of yesterday (compiled and translated here) there are two hints towards that:

RiGoRmOrTiS UK - Will Shenmue 3 start in the cave? I want the satisfaction of leaving it myself! don't skip the moment!

YS: Either from Shenhua's house, or the road leading up to Bailu Village.

And then

Benji - why were the Bailu stretch goals the last stretch goals?

YS: Many of the new challenges in S3 are in Baisha. As a result the focus was put there.

Anyway I'm also hopeful they can get the full $10M funding after Kickstarter through PayPal, Sony, Sega or a combination of both :-)

With all the gifs in this thread, I really want to play again Shenmue 2 but my Dreamcast can't properly read the games anymore. : (
(avatar changed also)

Guys I remember playing Shenmue back when it released on the dreamcast and I loved every minute of it. I never had the chance to play the second one. How does Shenmue stack up with the first? Also there's a pretty good deal for an Xbox and Shenmue II that I'm thinking of taking at my retro gaming store.

The second one doesn't have that home town feel, but it is a great game. It's bigger than Shenmue I and there's different sorts of gambling, battles, and side quests to keep you busy. I say take the deal!

shenmue II doesn't quite have the same atmosphere but it realises a lot of the concepts the first game was going for in a bigger and better way.

The last disc had bit of that same Shenmue 1 atmosphere, and it felt great after the big action finish of the previous disc.
yeah. that seems to be the direction shenmue 3 will take too. that's cool. hong kong was a pretty big place, but i'd appreciate somewhere smaller with more atmosphere

Nearing the completion of a God of War related video (that's been in the works for SOME TIME) and a few other video productions, so I'll be doing my best to stay away from Rocket League at least some what...

...and pouring most of my weekend and Monday into the end of Shenmue 1 and as much Shenmue 2 as my body can stay awake for. Already begun cutting together a video and about to record part of my voice-over. Hopefully I don't get too emotional :P

6 days to go... i really hope they allow post-kickstarter funding during the development time to complete the 10M+ goals

just realised in BOTH my gifs, there's a typo and i missed the n out of shenmue on the bit.ly

goddamnit

It happens, nothing that you can't fix with a reupload!

Wondering what would this big update be.

I wonder what that Ragdoll system is, Havok based knockdowns?

2 million = Sequel

5 million = True sequel, or: game he wants to make

10 million = dream sequel, or: game he dreams to make

That's how I see it. People need to drop the 10 million info, the game will probably be fine if the KS ends at 5+ and allows donations afterwards

I just watched Shenmue 1 the "movie" on YouTube, man they really don't make games like that anymore.
Now all I gotta do is find Shenmue 2 to catch up for when part 3 hits, so happy they are really and actually making it.

Hating that it might not make it to 10M, not sure what else can be done (I know the last days will give it a nice boost).

You know, there was a Shenmue 2 movie floating around at one point. It was fan made obviously, but pretty well done. Wish i had a direct link as there are quite a few of them on youtube now. Most are shit. :p

While the Shenmue movies are fun for those that have played the game. In my opinion it's very different from watching all the codec/cut-scenes in a game like Metal Gear Solid. Even though the games are narratively driven, especially the sequel. I think if you asked people what they loved about the series, atmosphere, sense of immersion, being transported to a time and place often are characteristics that are mentioned which yo simply don't get a sense of, watching only the cinematics.

Damn I really want to play Shenmue 1 & 2. They need to release them for PS4 or Xbox One, HD remake or not.
Sega can surprise us with a press conference to announce that they will collaborate with Yu Suzuki for the remaster. Or they tweak the original until it is playable and release it as PS4 PSN exclusive.
Or they remaster each game as a 2 hour epic movie (total 4 hours).
