SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Well, now it totally looks that shenmue will beat bloodstained on kickstarter, they are like 600k away and they still have their last hours rush. Totally undeserved, but i still hope they manage to deliver the game that fans deserve

This is literally the dumbest shit ever and I can't believe gaming warz still exists in 2015.. SMH.

I've never played Shenmue 1 or 2 (finally ready to start them tho once I get a Dreamcast), and I've backed $300 (Australia). Question is...do I bump my pledge? What do I do?? I wanna see this thing hit $6m!!

I say do it, man. Once in a lifetime opportunity! Major props for pledging without playing the originals, that's awesome.

Anyone seeing the comments on the Bloodstained KS page? They seem quite pissed at Shenmue fans for some reason. You would think they would understand the pent up frustration and energy a fanbase has for a particular franchise and wanting to see it progressed. I wish Bloodstained every success and I hope they would wish the same for S3.

Just read some of the comments. Really weird that they seem bitter over Shenmue 3 potentially getting more money... I'm over the moon that both games are getting made.

Wow, really? That's pathetic if true. I find it weird when people compare completely different games. Why would anyone be mad at the record being beaten. Especially by a game like Shenmue 3 that people have been waiting 14 years for? People are weird, man.

Yeah, people don't want Shenmue 3 to get more money than Bloodstained because they have something against that. Hell, I'm intending to pick up a copy when it's eventually released. It just sends out a loud and clear statement about how much of a fanbase the series has to hopefully make it easier to acquire funding for 3 and any future titles needed to finish the story. You only have to look at the amounts both Kickstarters initially wanted to see that Shenmue's in need of more, because the games are just more expensive to make. So Suzuki needs all the funding he can get, and as many weapons as he can get to gather it. That's all this is about, really.

In any case I hope Bloodstained sells well enough to vindicate Iga and give a giant fuck you to Konami. Kickstarter has been a godsend to small developers wanting to get their dream off the ground and not be shackled to large publishers.

Yeah it's more like a thrusting shove really.

No mention of it at this stage obviously, but I highly doubt that's something that will happen. The story will probably lead out of China by the end. I personally don't see why you would need this mode. Just fire up the game and don't do any of the story stuff, lol. Shenmue had plenty of chances to do what you like without progressing.
Thats all well an good until ya hit the "final day" an get slapped with the bad ending for goofing off to much x.x

An I do like the idea of having a deadline and all so I'm thinking borrowing the Yakuza series Premium Adventure mode couldn't possibly be a bad thing. Lotsa games let ya play around in a post-story world, even ones that end on cliffhangers ya know!

seriously i am going to be so stoked when people actually play the first two games if (when) sega releases them again. i definitely think a lot of people are going to enjoy it. it also means a lot of people are going to play shenmue II which is criminally underrated

Bloodstained is backed by a large publisher. Deep Silver isn't exactly indie.

Always loving the constant need of quick travel.

But seriously, is Shenmue a series that even really needs it? Was it that cumbersome at all to anyone?

They guy who wrote that is a fucking idiot.

Could be worse. At least it's an article about the actual game, hahaha. Though much of their opinions I feel like have already been covered and improved upon, even from Shenmue 1 to 2.

Always loving the constant need of quick travel.

Exactly. Shenmue 1 and 2 actually had quick travel in some parts. You could enable it in the options in Shenmue 1. Pretty weird to suggest when we don't know how big the game is. Like does every game automatically need quick travel? lol.

some are okay in theory, some don't really sound too good

making the fighting system more like yakuza? naw. let shenmue and yakuza be their own things. yakuza is over the top, shenmue more grounded in kung fu techniques.

proper map? depends how big the game is. gps though? nah. quick travel? likely not needed and even then shenmue and shenmue II kind of had a quick travel system anyway

proper subquests? there were plenty of subquests in shenmue. it was just up to the player to find them and follow them. i don't think they should make an actual questlog.

Full map and GPS? The hell?

Seriously, half that list doesn't sound very Shenmue-ish at all. If you want something with map/GPS, "proper" side quests, better voice acting (better being a subjective word, I liked the Japanese voices in Shenmue 1&2) etc. then they might be better off trying one of the Yakuza games - that has most of what they are asking for. But then again that site sounds like they'd complain about the slow start to Yakuza 3's story as well...

I was going to comment this. Fuck websites that make you do that as opposed to displaying the article on one page.

Write something controversial? Check. Make people click through ten pages of ads? Check. It's all about getting money. Literally the worst thing about modern web design.

No to me personaly it ain't needed ..
There was always something special about making my way to what ever location and ended up talking to some one or doing something always ...

Guess difrent feeling from most games when going from A to B

Fixed that for the author...
  1. Even better QTEs
  2. Story intro with optional recap of 1&2
  3. Fun job system (if any)
  4. Improved map (no GPS - 1980s)
  5. Quick travel like Shenmue 1&2?
  6. Online battle arena / challenges
  7. Improved omnidirectional fighting system
  8. Side quests handled like TW3 (equally)
  9. Modern quality VO
  10. Elegantly paced story and freedom

Shenmue 1 and 2's environments are small enough that you can get from one end to the other end pretty quickly. The only reason they take longer is because of all the loading in between towns. Quick travel isn't needed imo, but I'm hoping they rid of the load times and make the whole world seamless.

oh man I wanna play Shenmue 1 and 2 so bad right now..

You guys better not be fucking with me, Shenmue is the shit right?
yes. it's kind of a product of its time but you also see bits and pieces of modern ideas in games today in there, which is incredible for a game that originally came out in 1999.

it's very divisive, but if you like the look of it you'll likely enjoy it. yu suzuki said games are something you can soak yourself in, unlike movies or books. shenmue takes that approach massively. let yourself get immersed into the world, the gameplay, and the story.

Shenmue is fucking awesome. No other game like it. Really makes you feel a part of the world and draws you in on levels no other game can. So exciting to finally get a Shenmue 3. My favourite games of all time and even replaying the originals today is just as awesome as playing them when they released. So much to see and do with some of the best music ever made. It's a hard game to explain to people without them playing it but there's something about it that really makes it feel like an experience. Also, you can git hit in the head with a watermelon.

Maybe they mad we're getting the real deal Shenmue 3 instead of not-Shenmue 3 since they're only getting not-Castlevania o.o? Quick! Someone check an see what the Yooka & MN9 fans think of us!

shenmue da best.

Shenmue 1 has you running back and forth a lot so there's a noticeable pacing issue. If you can get over that it still holds up in many regards, and several people like the smaller towns of Shenmue 1 more. Play it for the story at least.

Shenmue 2's pacing is a lot better, and there are more battles and little minigames to enjoy around the different cities.

Yeah, playing the two games back to back you can see the improvements so clearly. It can be hard to remember the progress they made with just the sequel in terms of how it played etc, especially if you haven't played them in a while.

10 - QTE are good in number in Shenmue Games
9 - There will be resume of previous games (if thats what this mean)
8 - Most ppl want the part time job thing in the game (if thats what this means)
7 - Full map only if the map is big enough to justify. Ryo dont own any gps device in the time the game is set.
6 - Only if the map is big enough to justify, id rather call a cab or something like Yakuza games do to move from one point of the map to other.
5 - Online stuff is a waste of time and money, id rather they spend all that in the singleplayer experience.
4 - Agree as long as it keeps the kung fu style intact.
3 - Agree would like some too.
2 - Agree, but hope we have option to choose japanese voice, as its good.
1 - No thanks.

Almost 11,000 PS4 copies so far sold. As they are exclusive, im sure they will be worth a lot in the future. At least that is what I'm going to tell myself to justify putting down another $600...

Totally bizarre isn't it. How would it matter if Shenmue beat it by $5 or $500,000 or was $5 away? I'm trying to fathom, is some title of being the most awesomist hardest-corest fans at stake here?

KS is getting these games made for the fans and whatever the money generated has nothing to do with anything else and solely down to the interest. Every backer should be doing cartwheels instead of saying "bad news guys, some other KS is going to get higher than us".

I just look at these and think it's great they've been backed in a substantial way and hope they all get a decent game.

I honestly don't care about Shenmue 3 getting more money just for bragging rights. I want it to get all the money it can to make it a truly amazing game. 6 million is almost a given at this pace and I hope it goes past 6.5 at least during the final remaining hours.

I'm going for the rarer still PC box. That standard DVD case in a box will surely appreciate in time.

Like I said yesterday, I'd be happy at $5M, $5.6M would be great and anything beyond $6M would be amazing. Just hoping for the best and glad to see it's doing well.

It only matters because people believe beating records will get it in the press. Free marketing, more money to the kickstarter. More money, better game.

i do find it funny that article used a picture of one of the smartest QTEs in gaming. the one where you win by not pressing anything.

i don't like QTEs much but shenmue does them just fine. they usually give you a second chance at getting it right and in a lot of sequences the story will continue and branch out differently if you fail. the 'one miss and you're dead' QTEs are rare all besides a certain bit of shenmue II, but at that point the game has been training your reaction times since the beginning and the QTEs are a legitimate challenge to the player.

still even then, yu says he wants to change QTEs, and i'm interested in what he can do. i wouldn't be surprised if he adds an element of freedom to them and allow for different button presses to have different actions and reactions. that could be how the technique scrolls come into play actually.

I looked up the Shenmue 3 boards on gamefaqs an it looks like PS4 version is "winning" or all the fans decided ta just converge there.
