SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

The phone conversation and flashbacks are exclusive to KS?? I didn't plan to open my PC copy and only plan to play the PS4 digital copy... Why....

@gaf, can someone confirm?

The Kickstarter page says that they are exclusive, but maybe you get some kind of code that activates the in-game phone card item, so you can use with other versions of the game. It's unlikely that they'd print special versions of the game disc for $80 backers.

This seems really to end in the ballpark a lot of people with experience with kickstarter expected (around 5 - 6 mill). Going through the thread reading the "max 3 mill" posts gave me a chuckle. Not really a fan of Shenmue but i'm glad that such a important classic gaming franchise gets the chance to get "closure".

Hats off to everyone involved.

That will be one pricey DLC if it's sold @ebay.

Well, I'm finally in.

I've never played a Shenmue but I think I have to contribute. I've purchased the 29$ tier because 60$ seems too much for me and the 39$ seems pretty shitty...

I never won any of those raffle prices...

Soooo finally pledged for the 175 $ tier, I knew I would put my money into this project the second I heared about shenmue 3 but was waiting for more Information regardles.

Just going by the information I could get from the Kickstarter I got to say I have no clue what those Stretch goals are about, what does advanced free battle means, how will the battles look without that, not even asking about "high ground battle"... Does "new kickstarer record" adds anything to the game? Raportsystem? ...gosh!

Sure I was lazy and put little effort into going to other places like shenmuedojo or reading up this thread day to day, was just watching some of the Videos and checking on the updates from time to time (1.000$ + tiers being added again and again), Just checked the Kickstarter mostly and I feel like I might have missed something, I dunno...
I thought this was about selling a product to the fans and people who have no idea what to expect from a Shenmue game and right now even I have no idea what I should or can expect from this one.

I gave my money for the name alone, so please someone tell me what kind of shit person I am and where I can read about what this game will bring to the table, from what I got this won't be nearly as big as S2 and close to S1 first area? No "modern" urban enviroment and more like three small villages in the mountains?

Please, I want to be hyped again but this Kickstarter page is a complete mess for me!

Adding multiple physical unit tiers a few weeks ago would of boosted the total by 50k at minimum and likely much higher (100-150k). Even attempting it now would not get the same results.

.

It only matters because people believe beating records will get it in the press. Free marketing, more money to the kickstarter. More money, better game.

You mention Kickstarter money. When Shenmue overtakes Bloodstained they'll be literally hours left. Shenmue won't capitalize on it much if at all. The articles will be an after event for 99% of the readers.

Bloodstained has had it's month in the sun in terms of most funded video game, the Kickstarter ended ages ago so how can that bring in more money to the Kickstarter.

If Shemue is taking Paypal afterwards that can help of course but you mention Kickstarter money and more money equals better game but the KS has ended when such press is happening unless you're talking about hypothetically private investors adding more after the KS has ended which is possible but very unlikely and not reason to be upset over being not the highest KS anymore. I don't think the Bloodstained fans are going on my god, some rare chance some private investor might not see us no more.

Bloodstained took a small amount (200k) via paypal which ended when the KS ended and Shenmue hasn't got paypal setup yet but even if it did it has nothing to do with how Bloodstained ended. I don't see any reason for your response except some free marketing for a few hours. I can't see that being a reason for Bloodstained fans and you mention free marketing in relation to more funding but the funding has ended when the free marketing kicks in.

Also looks like Shenmue is going to fly past it anyway, regardless of press articles talking about breaking the record. It's been on a charge for a while now. They should setup a paypal to capitalize on the press as most of it will be appear after the KS has ended.

From my perspective, it's less about free marketing, but rather leverage to negotiate with investors to invest in Shenmue 3.

Being the #1 most funded video game KS project is a lot more appealing than say, #2. And that is on top of all the other limitations that this KS has faced/chose to do, like limited platforms (only PS4+PC), no add-ons, etc.

Plus the more successful this is, chances are the SEGA executives are going to be a lot less resistant to the idea of greenlighting Shenmue I/II HD when Suzuki goes to talk to them about it.

Mhm, nice observation; didn't think about it that way.

I wonder if he's already in talks with some publisher to get extra funding or something.

I think being the most successful Kickstarter game of all time will be a huge perception victory for the Shenmue franchise for a long time.

It re-launches the game in the public imagination in a big way. It demonstrates to the press, the industry, and fans, that the interest in Shenmue is more passionate than that which has coalesced around the most successful games on the platform.

I think people will remember the "most successful Kickstarter game" headlines when Shenmue III hits retail in several years, and I think it will be hard for Sony (and Shenmue III's other partners) to look at the campaign as anything but a roaring success if it has bested all precedents in its category.

PayPal after the kickstarter won't bring in that much but having a dedicated and easy way for the Japanese audience to pledge could bring in a lot. Over 40k people watched the niconico stream.

I'd imagine having the title as the biggest gaming kickstarter would be very helpful for any negotiations that still need to take place.

Doubled my pledge to $500. Don't think we'll hit $6m personally, we're talking $500k in 17 hours. But being the most successful video game on Kickstarter is a nice goal too which I think is achievable.

I mean, I make it sound like the simplest thing, but I don't think it's an impossible hurdle to get say, 5-6 companies invest 500k to 1mil respectively. Not so much of a huge investment per investor that Suzuki has to bow down to publisher pressure.

Fuck it. I pledged for $60. This was happening one way or another. I'll survive on ramen for the glory of Shenmue 3.

We are currently tracking at 20k an hour. We need 30k per hour to reach 6 million. This is typically the slowest part of each day. Add the fact we should get a big boost in the last few hours and 6 million is certainly possible.

We'll pass bloodstained in roughly 3 hours.

My conservative goal is to pass the 5.7 million that Veronica Mars brought in. That would make Shenmue III the 7th most funded Kickstarter overall, as well as number 1 video game.

Obviously would be ecstatic to reach 6 million and beyond, but beating Veronica and taking 7th would be a very satisfying finish that would leave me feeling the Kickstarter had reached its potential.

I can't reasonably up my pledge from $60, but I really hope we'll make it to 6 million. I also hope for some additional post-KS financing scheme, and for more investors being drawn by the Kickstarter's success.

And to think Suzuki wanted to include option for Ryo to eat Ramen in Shenmue and that it would get soggy if left out too long.

Attention to detail...

You might say Suzuki's ambitions have reached beyond the game and into my own life ;P

Great job ^.^

Thanks! :) I like to think it was a Han Solo-esque last minute reversal to join the alliance.

Though there will be others in the next hours...
