Unless there's a massive surge I can't see 6.5 million happening. Maybe when the stream starts we'll see a deluge of pledges in the final few hours.

Yeah, a safe $6mil (safe as in far enough over that trolls can't ruin it) seems all but guaranteed at the current rate, but things would really have to pick up during the stream to hit $6.5.

While we're not earning $1k/minute anymore... we're still earning $40k+/hour... which is still crazy. The hype is there, and I imagine it's going to be more intense in the next hours.

The Shenmue games are my all time favorites. I haven't played anything but 1 game the last year due to time constraints. I'm kinda broke at the moment but I dropped in for the $120 tier earlier. This thread is the only thing I've paid any attention to on GAF and for good reason. I knew the Shenmue games were special but it wasn't until recently that I came to understand how special the Shenmue community really is. Thanks to everyone for posting and being so positive and rekindling the same feelings I had over 14 years ago!

The first two games, particularly the first, are always lauded as being ahead of their time in terms of graphics/scope. That kind of thing plays an important part of the way certain games feel.

I know it can't be the new Crysis but something about it's scale/scope/visual impression needs to have a "wow" factor in order to replicate the impact that the first games had, no?

Shenmue 1 is only on the Dreamcast. Shenmue 2 is on both the Dreamcast and Xbox. With luck, there will be remasters announced soon. If all of those options are a problem for you, you could try illicit methods although I wouldn't encourage it.

If you have a Dreamcast, well that's the best way. If you have an OG XBox, then that has a great version of Shenmue 2 at least. It is backward compatible on the 360, though that has a few glitches here and there. A lot of people are emulating currently, NullDC has the best performance, but has a few graphical glitches, Dcemul has less glitches but it requires a stroger machine to run.

I wonder if this would work on large scale projects, just the amount of games i'd want to donate to.. Sequels to Rare titles, BGE2, shenmue 3, skies of arcadia 2, this could be a big problem for my budget if it takes off in a direction i'd want.

Thing is Sega and Konami wouldn't likely try this out even with Suzuki and Iga begging for the rights to develop Shenmue and Castlevania again. Suzuki and Iga would be better off getting their own ideas and their own original games greenlit through fans on Kickstarter. That way Konami has no rights to their games. For starters Suzuki could start work on a racing game and Iga another 2D action game or "metroidvania" style game.

We got both the Shenmue sequel and the IGA game (Bloodstained)!
