Star Wars KOTOR 2 Gets Big Update + out on Mac & Linux

Once installed, it is interwoven into the story in some capacity

The HK factory and the droid planet are two separate modules. The HK factory is restored with TSLRCM, whereas M4-78 is optional content that makes a few minor changes to the story in terms of pacing

M4-78 is restored by a separate team and had to recreate dialog and such. It is also overly long and tedious.

It's a fair claim that you can skip it as thing featured in it were either scrapped for good reason, or relocated to different parts of the game

So this playthrough I'm boned and have to complete? And I can't just uninstall and have it the save work because it is interwoven, ugh

Edit: also, why does hk 47 not help me fight the hk 50s?

You'll just have to power through it. Luckily once the first part of the level is done, you gain access to fast travel points in the level

I'm confused. Is the crappy planet optional or not if you have the restored content mod?

They're two separate mods. The droid planet isn't in the restored content mod, as it was essentially re-created by enterprising modders using what pieces of the story and dialogue were left behind. Even with the droid planet mod installed, it's not a mandatory story mission.

HK-47 factory/negative influence question:
Does maxing out his negative influence keep you from being able to turn on the HK-51s in the factory? I never figured out what triggers being able to build the HK-51s, most of the time I only get the option to blow it all up.

You can safely remove the extra planet. It doesn't break your game to continue without it

Edit: anyone have problems with achievements not firing properly?

Its not tied to influence.

Yup, I haven't gotten any achievements, had TSLRCM installed from the start.

Edit: I've gotten some of them but not all the ones I should've. I'm on Telos but I didn't get any of the Peragus ones.

I bought it a long time ago and never really got that far for some reason, then I kept on trying to play it again over the years and never got very far for some reason...and I recently rebought it on Steam and am not getting very far and I understand the reason why.

The opening section is so insanely boring I just stop wanting to play. How long does it take to get out of the mining area and start the game proper?

few hours. you can always use the Super Skip Peragus mod, but you lose access to the HK droid factory

Ok, I think I just hit a bug. I have Kreia on my crew and I try to go into the Peragus Fuel Depot and this leads to a black screen. I may have done things in the wrong order....

Ok modders - do your thing.

Great that the devs have done this - I was just thinking about another playthrough... never finished it back in the day.

4K DSR and some HD Texture mods would go down a treat.

This update inspired me to download and play SWTOR thinking that I'd get a similar experience. Not so much. As much as I try I simply cannot get into MMO play style and the complexity of menus, systems, instances, guilds, etc. Give a simple 'ol ARPG any day. I do like the art style of SWTOR although the character textures seem low even though everything is set to Ultra.

The game came out well over a decade ago, so the texture quality should be exactly as expected. As for the menu system, again I'm not sure what you expect unless you want the game to be changed entirely. With all the characters, items, skills, traits and quests you get, the menu is pretty good

The user is talking about The Old Republic.

Is there anything else I should need to do to use my Xbox 360 controller? I have a wired 360 controller that I use for most of my PC games, and I see the icons for controller buttons on the menus for the title screen, but my controller inputs don't do anything.

Achievements are being a bit finnicky, but I've received most of them that I should have unlocked. I had to use SAM for some though, like

  • Getting the named Lightsaber Crystal
Siding with the Mercs on Dantooine

Does anyone know when the Onderon achievement is unlocked?
I haven't returned to the planet yet, but I have sided with Vaklu. Is it unlocked once the whole Dantooine line is wrapped up?

No, worked right away for me.

Which drivers are you referring to? Because my controller drivers, and my graphics card drivers are up to date.

I was referring to Microsoft controller drivers, but if you already have them then there is no issue.

yeah, lol bioware couldn't even be bothered to make sure the PC versions of the mass effect games had proper controller support.

I feel like another company ported the original Mass Effect, but I will say that game had amazing mouse and keyboard controls. It was really better played from that perspective, especially in a time where xinput was in its infancy.

Just got a new 4k TV last night... Game holds up really well on it. Amazing how their slightly stylized characters work so well a decade on.

Need an xinput wrapper, which I believe are available for the WiiU Pro.

Oh Sweet thanks! Any good wrappers? I'm at work but I'll google some myself when I get home.

Man I forgot literally everything about this game bar Kreia and that underwater level. It all feels new to me so I'm excited!

Game runs like a dream on my macbook pro late 2013 model. Doesn't even get hot! And its SOOOO fast.

So I've been replaying kotor on my shield tv and playing kotor ii on my pc simultaneously. These games are addictive! Sort of want to give swtor another go just for better graphics, but probably makes the most sense to wait for the expansion coming out.

Replaying this makes me so salty that we didn't get a proper kotor 3.

Went to nar shaddaa for my first planet and just finished it last night. Bao is a jedi, hk47 is awake, handmaiden is almost a jedi, have a couple lightsabres. This game is so good.

Some of the solo or 2 person parts were a lot harder than I remember.

( ͡°_ ͡°)

but the new x-pac is extremely story based, so maybe we'll finally get a good and proper KotOR story

EA delivering a compelling product.

It's been years since I've played this but damn, I don't remember kbm controls being so...weird. Game feels much more comfortable with a gamepad.

I really wish I could make Bao a Sith. I can't take him out to do anything because he hates all of my choices, and I can't do choices he likes because I'm full dark side. So he just sits on the Hawk while everyone else has fun.

The biggest problem with the droid planet is that, unlike the HK factory, the game is perfectly complete without it. The puzzles on that planet, all the plot points, etc. were moved to other planets and the game is very intact without it. It's a nice little diversion for die hard fans of the game, but it is truly cut content that was meant to be cut, as opposed to "holy shit we have to release this game in two weeks" cut content.

Yeah, definitely. It's in a real rough state and incredibly unoptimized even with the M4-78 restoration mod, with lots of slowdown. I think that if M4-78 wasn't cut for time and was allowed to progress through development further it would have been great, but playing through the mod is a bit of a chore.

You sure about that? He is prominently featured in the marketing as a dual-sided character.

I'm playing keyboard/mouse.

Anyone getting a bug where they lose control of the mouse?

Also whenever I use a workbench teh camera goes 5 feet above my head.

edit: And now by game won't even load. What the hell. :|

Restarting PC.

Oh sweet, there's a thread for this.

I smashed through a quick light-side play-through and got as many achievements as I could, with the exception of the named lightsaber crystal (which didn't pop), and the break Hanharr's spirit achievement, which I can't remember ever doing in any of my dozen play-throughs of the game. Anyone know what that achievement entails?

Need some help here regarding achievements.

I'm on peragus and I'm in control of T3. I was able to use him fine, but then I gained access to the Ebon Hawk. I figured I'd board it. Turns out that made me skip everything and I got to the turret part.

This is weird. Not seeing how I was able to skip. I DO have the Peragus skip mod installed, but I decided not to go with it this playthrough.

Before all this, I was able to get achievements. I got one for getting my first Light Side points.

Then when the above bug happened, my game froze, I rebooted the game, and then I got some Dark Side points off Atton and I didn't get the corresponding achievement. On top of that, every time I save my game without putting text into the pop up field, the file is listed as (Modded).

Anyone got any advice on this? I'm considering removing the Peragus Skip mod.

You can only get Hanharr if you're a dark-side character. You get him instead of Mira on Nar Shadaa. I haven't triggered the achievement yet post-update, but it's probably when you complete his last conversation chain—like a lot of party members, you get a stat bonus when you max out their influence and complete their conversation.

So what's the best way to experience this? Just install everything at the beginning? I played a few hours but don't mind starting over now that this update is out.

If you played without the Restored Content Mod and plan to use it now, AFAIK you'll have to start over because modded and unmodded saves aren't compatible.

Dunno what the image was, but yeah you can make him a Sith. It's just a pain in the ass and I'm not a fan of taking big Light Side point increases just to make him like me. At least with Atton you can make dark side choices and explain why you did them and he will gain influence, Bao-Dur hates every dark choice.

I beat the game again last night.
Not asking Traya any questions is hilarious, you just beat her, throw her into the core, then credits roll with no story resolution. Also, I let Atton die to Sion, so that was cool and new.
