I actually have to agree.. i was hoping the game was more of the mental instability of BIg Boss.. as he turmoils and spirals down into madness and a real villain.

To be fair that was out of Kojima's control, that said it's bit unfortunate and I'm not entirely happy.
So basically Venom will be reintroduced to all his "old pals" and we won't have the level of camaraderie seen in the old games.
Problem is that Venom is a one off and such a humongous pawn that we may as well be playing a robot.
It would have been one thing to give him a different personality but what we've seen implies he's as gruff as regular BB

I must have missed this somewhere but...I don't mind really. I mean I could be shot down in flames but I really like the idea of Liquid and Kid Mantis being friends, even if Kid Mantis is a clone of Liquid or whatever, or a bastard child of LET, or Quiet's program (Those Who Do Not Exist)...
I mean with Mantis it's a little easier to excuse any retcons to his "backstory" in MGS because...well...y'know. Mantis stuff. Kojima stuff. hypnotherapy and all that. Ah what the hell.
Execution is everything though, and tbqh it doesn't sound bad. I have faith that Kojima will release a great package, even if it's not entirely what we initially thought it was.

Yea.. but this switcharoo is almost like copy paste of MGS2... sure the premise is more focused instead of making a meme out of the whole game. But there is something quite lame about not playing who you think you are playing.

Ok, I'm really trying to avoid spoilers for this game but I wound up clicking on this link thinking it was the Gamescom demo thread and now I'd like some clarification otherwise it's going to kill me. I've got to the comments of the topic by peaking through my fingers, so I'm not sure what the spoiler policy is for the topic so I've tagged just in case and I'll apologise if every comment before mine if about this topic.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me. I'm not even certain that I want to know, so if you've answered and I don't respond it might just be I've chickened out and haven't read it. Thanks in advance.
I only got a glimpse of a comment but it seemed to suggest that we're not playing as Big Boss in MGSV. By that I mean 'Big Boss' as presented in the game isn't the actual Big Boss/Naked Snake of MGS3/Peace Walker/Metal Gear 1/Metal Gear 2/MGS4 but it someone else who maybe thinks he's BB, or is perhaps impersonating him or some other nonsense. Can someone clarify if this is correct, or if it's just speculation based on the leaks?

In as much as supposedly her initial appearance, while changeable, is determined by how much torture you allow to happen to her, although you can supposedly go too far and kill her.

The difference here ofc is that in MGS2 you bought the game thinking you'd play SS but soon found out you'd be playing as Raiden. In V (ofc considering that the rumors are real) you play the game thinking you are playing as BB, until the very end, when everything is revealed.

Well.. if they go this path... maybe this character is also unstable... leading to an interesting psychological approach. I think that is why the first mission in the hospital looks soo good!

I believe the huge whale is something manifested by Mantis, because once the whale swallows the chopper, the chopper gets transported into the hospital, killing its own men.I always assumed the horn was not an actual physical thing, but some sort of visual symbolism. Like something Big Boss imagined ala the huge whale.
