Rumor (with a side of salt): Shovel Knight coming to Smash Wii U/3DS?

Yes, although he's considered Solid Snake, he has elements of Big Boss in him as well. He's a mix of MGS2 and 3 Snake.

I imagine he'd just outright be Big Boss if he returned, eyepatch and scruffy beard, because that's what Konami and Kojima appear to want use as "Snake" since Brawl came out.

Either that or Smash 4 would go full retro and have him look just like MGS1. That would be kind of cool.

His facial hair is 3. Sakurai (iirc) even said he's designed to incorporate both 2 and 3 in his design. But he's Solid Snake 100% in all materials, so the aspects borrowed from 3 are not meant to change which Snake was in Brawl.

I'd definitely prefer Big Boss from MGS3 over Solid or the newer look of Big Boss.

Solid Snake has always looked weird to me with his shaved or stubble beard. Naked Snakes head is best, and full on Big Boss is better.

We're talking about Snake as if he has a hope to come back and isn't trapped with an insane, abusive company that wants nothing more than to ignore 30 years of history and keep making shoddy casino games from beloved IPs.

Nintendo has pulled miracles of licensing before, but this seems like something they might not want to tackle. One character for Smash could be a huge hassle for them to try and get, especially since a Smash character also requires Amiibo production rights and rights to use that Amiibo in future stuff.

Yet they are working with Konami for other game license. I'm not suggesting that they could try both at once.

I want to believe but it just sounds so unlikely. Not only is the game not out in Japan yet but I don't even think the dev team has even heard of Shovel Knight. There's a lot of factors when it comes to getting characters into smash and the familiarity with the source material is one of them and not random characters from recently released games.

Yacht Club Games are completely ignoring Tweets about this. They have a fairly active Twitter and answer questions regularly, so that's weird. I've been watching it all day to see if they reply to anyone asking about this.

Hmm...

NDA? Of course, it might be that they just don't want to give any hints as to what it really is if this is false

Every week there's one of these threads...its getting kinda tiresome to be honest. If Smash characters come, they will come. No need to speculate. I blame Nintendo's DLC for this. Its like the release of a new Smash game except like 100 of them.

They're probably too busy jumping up and down in excitement while getting in a car or plane on their way to PAX.

Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Nintendo Hardcore culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Sony Land where they throw in Raiden or Big Daddy for advertising. If you screw someone over in the Nintendo Hardcore Community , you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Nintendo Hardcore public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Smash for either system, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel Shovel Knight for for Smash and put in KRool because indies are not worthy of make believe rules or you can kiss your business goodbye.

YGC (Yatch Club Games) just shot themselves in the foot since they didn't deny the leak.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Nintendo culture (I'm an expert), but Ninjas and Killing Leaks are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Playstation All Stars where you can leak anything. If you leak someone over in Nintendo, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Nintendo public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to put Shovel Knight in Smash, nor will they put any Indie games character in Smash for the rest of history. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire third party market with this move.

YGC, publicly apologize and pretend on twitter that the leak is fake or you can kiss your Smash Slot(tm) goodbye.

I'd rather YCG announce their next game and it be a Nintendo IP than a Shovel Knight amiibo or him being playable in Smash.

YCG still has at least 2 major expansions for Shovel Knight (Assuming gender swap mode and battle mode come alongside the other 2 campaigns like challenge mode is doing with plague knight). I don't expect a brand new game announcement for a while

every Smash 4 newcomer and DLC has been revealed in one through?

The Robin and Lucina reveal was not in a Direct, it was just a random stream that they scheduled (Which was actually just the release of that video). Pac-Man and Wii Fit Trainer were also revealed at E3 events that weren't streamed, and then their videos were just put online later.

oh right, well, I guess it is possible Shovel knight could be revealed tomorrow if such a thing happened

what, dude they were so hype. probably wont happen again though, it was Iwata's thing..
But Nintendo Directs are basically tradition, now. Obviously they won't do one so soon after Iwata's unfortunate passing, but I'm sure they'll do Directs again in due time. If that's next month or whenever they name their new CEO depends on how Nintendo wants to handle future Directs. They could just let someone from each region handle them (Ex: Bil Trinen doing the NoA Directs).

It would be a weird inclusion but I'm totally behind Shovel Knight as a character or Mii costume.

Gimme a Strike The Earth remix and I'll buy him twice.

That's a waste of space that could be used for games that are coming out in the future. The amount of sales they'll get of 3 month old DLC isn't really worth the effort or space required to set up Smash demo units.

They had Smash units reserved for E3 as well, and they were used to show off the new DLC.

Splatoon is there showing off a new update.
Nintendo has had demo units of old games simply to show off said game to the general public. I've seen Mario Kart 8 at a few event long after its release. Sometimes they still want a big name there to get people into the booths.

And for fun, don't forget Shulk getting announced in a JP only Direct because of our sins.
Was that the same Direct that revealed the new 3DS? It was crazy when a Direct that everyone assumed would not lead to much due to being Japan only had so much to offer.

I can't remember but I think it might have been? I'm sure someone can help confirm this.

All this stuff about Shovel Knight in Smash, even if fake, is helping promote the character and his game, so maybe Yacht Club Games decided to not say anything and wait for different sources to shoot down the rumor. Or maybe the rumor is legit and that is why they aren't saying anything.

Even if they said no like they did with the amiibo it hasn't stopped the hype/speculation train so its probably best to not say anything regardless of the outcome

If true, I'm happy for those that wanted to see him "dig his way into the battle."

Personally though, I'd rather see iconic third-party characters like Simon Belmont, Snake, Kunio or one of the Double Dragons make it in. Them or more obscure first-party ones like Takamaru, an Eggplant wizard from Kid Icarus, or Stanley from DK3; or even an indie character like Shantae who's been around for longer.

While I liked Shovel Knight, I also found it to be a somewhat forgettable experience (outside of the music) that didn't really stick with me after beating it once. As such I remain surprised at how highly praised it continues to be everywhere as THE indy game or retro action-platformer to compete with. I also think Shovel Knight's character design could use some tweaks to be honest. The cliche viking horns are a bit much for me for instance, and they don't seem to fit his otherwise quite traditional knight armor.

But oh well, to each their own as always, and as said, I am happy if he gets in for those that are bigger fans of him.

Heyyy, bomberman must be given more priority here.
