As non spoilery as I can put it!

There's a door on the top floor of the medical platform there's a blue light above it, enter that door and then enter the door after it. You have to have done the side op called "wandering Motherbase staff".

That's not the cutscene. You have to land on the medical section, walk up some stairs, find a blue door, go inside find another blue door and push a button.

Awesome, thanks guys!

Yes it's time and points based. Most missions give you 12-15 minutes tops depending I how many objectives there are to complete.

that really puts this game in perspective for me. the series has always rewarded the player for non-lethality (and still does, with Fulton). but I thought rank correlated to your lethality

SO I found out in the second
Mist Skulls
encounter you really want to tranq. the
zombiefied
Russian Solider because you can fulton him and he has some pretty damn decent stuff across the board.

I imagine they took some criticism of Ground Zeroes to heart and wanted to allow a variety of play styles rather than 1. There was a lot of grousing about how you had to play pretty silly in that Extract Kojima mission, for instance, given the context of the mission.

It does reward you for both but the game is about big bosses descent into evilness. But yeah I totally agree with you.

Just played the first few hours yesterday after work and I'm pretty blown away by it. Went with the PS4 version cause I didn't want to spend my time tinkering on the PC. Good choice I think, cause it looks and runs beautifully.

As for the game itself: damn, so much fun. Before this, MGS4 was my favorite game in the series, but this is even better. MGS5 somehow manages to make stealth fun. And it controls so incredibly well. Like others have said, it is overwhelming, but not in a discouraging way. You want to figure all this stuff out.

I am also a sucker for David Bowie...

Spoiler Mission/Episode 11

How fucking awesome is the Quiet fight? loved every second of it. The setting is perfect for a snipe fight. Had a tough time spotting quiet when she disappears but found out what to look for.
And i sniped she shit out of her.
I am BIG BOSS don't fuck with me.

That was an awesome mission.
Felt like it was what Kojima always wanted to do with The End fight in MGS3 but now unburdened of loading screens. Was an absolutely awesome "boss fight" and I loved every single second of it.

I agree. the extraction mission is tolerable until you have to shoot the dude in the chopper.

yeah, I think the fact that the game grades you on indifference to lethality is definitely a thematic choice

Yup, it was great.

I was on my way to a side op and just randomly activated which was great.

enjoying the hell out of this game.

Right there with you. Incredibly surprised how it's grabbed me. I've always liked MGS games, but they've always had a bit of off-putting control and item management. Everything is so streamlined and intuitive in this game. It doesn't have the clunky feel of old. From the very opening mission, the game had me. So good.

By the way speaking of sideops, is
Rescuing Huey really a sideop? Like, it...uh, feels like a plot relevant thing. Why is it classified as a sideop? Is it like, completely missable or something?

They weren't kidding when they said his name would be everywhere.

Servers are up though?
I were logged in today and got my reward, though the iDroid gets so much slower, that I went back into offline mode.

Hasn't been up for me at all.. whenever it goes to login on PC it says undergoing maintenance. Tried quite a number of times too

What? I'm nearly done with the story and I can't ride to Africa from Afghanistan. Are you sure? Is there a set path you must go?

Fucking loved it. It is what MGS3 always wanted to achieve with the
the end fight
but was limited by hardware capabilities.

lol

if you put two troublemakers in the same unit they cancel each other out. I think they probably just bug each other exclusively, lol

So, spoiler talk...

I just got the thing with the medical bay.
Paz........

Is there anything else like that on Mother Base? I don't want to miss anything.

I decided to capture everyone at a base in a mission. Nabbed some more Spetz Natz, lots of A~ rank recruits, gained a bunch of levels. I need to find some more resources though. I suppose I can fart around in free roam for them, or would it be better to just do the missions?

Edit: I've found it more efficient to dive into a guard that spots you rather than try to take them down another way. It kills the alarm as they fall, then I can just beat the shit out of them/slam them/whatever when they get up. Not sure if this is by design but it's funny.

I told you guys the environments looked bland before release. And that it was just the same desert again and again.

But while playing it I don't have a problem with it. Though I can see it becoming boring further into the game.

i Have a couple of questions:

1) So my R&D was able to produce a new version of my rifle that has a DOT sight. In the description it mentions it is user removable. But on the field I tried to customize the rifle (removing DOT sight) and I couldnt. Is my only way of removing the DOT sight to go through the loadout menu and choose a previous version of the weapon? Sounds kinda silly to me if that's the case but I couldnt find a solution to customize optics another way.

2) When you liberate outposts. If you leave the map and go back to ACC or MB, when you return, do enemies respawn?

How soon do I get
Quiet as a buddy
?
Just had the cutscene where she attempts to join and fires at the heli blades but doesn't tag along.

The cassette tapes are an excellent middle ground between exposition and gameplay/pacing. There are some pretty long-ass distances to cover, so I listen to the tapes as I wander through Afghanistan.

They have excellent production. I'm really digging KieferBoss.

The in-between areas are bland, but the outposts themselves and the various fortresses are wonderfully designed.

Also, a question about Miller (I'm up to Mission 6):
Man, is he just crazy? Dude refuses to get wicked bionic limbs and wants to live with his pain. Damn. Hardcore.

Question about mission 11.
Do I have to capture Quiet by reducing her stamina meter to get her as a buddy? Or is it just natural story progression? Can I just run away to the side op?

The only thing I have to say about MGSV right now is this:

Mission 9, where you have to rout multiple Soviet tanks, armored carriers and a helicopter, is the best thing I've done in a video game. Riding around on D-Horse, confusing the aim of the armored vehicles and listening as Kaz and Ocelot presented new objectives to attempt... Including saving a prisoner being moved during all of this craziness... And all-the-while The Final Countdown is blaring over everything... Plus, I got an "S" rank on it, which was the cherry on the cake.

Jesus this game. GOTY right here, and that's before any discussion about how fluid and excellent the gameplay mechanics are that allow for what I've been doing in-game. Incredible stuff.

Any word when the servers will be available? Third day now and still can't import my GZ save. Shame they couldn't have done it locally.

I gotta say I
was quite disappointed. The End took me about an hour and a half to do, slowly crawling around the jungle, looking around for him when I first played MGS3.
Quiet's fight took me a single try and was done in about 5 minutes.
It was essentially sit in cover, look for bright flashing, aim at head, shoot. Repeat x4
I feel like they simply added too many hints for finding her. Big jumps for general direction, then running to be a bit more specific, then flashing scope flashing + humming for the found you.

But
the rainbow dancing was fun, I liked that genuinely :D

edit: I had forgotten about it, but I freakin loved
how I was just exploring the the world and suddenly time slowed down and I actually reacted fast enough to slide to the side of D-Horse. And then it's like "hey, Episode 11!"

That I'll definitely keep in mind as one of coolest moments I've experienced in a game.

I'm about three missions deep so far. Only thing that seems off to me is the Helicopter call option being in the right tab of the Idroid. Other than that amazing! So fluid and fun, even with the revenge theme going on, and despite how intense the opening hospital segment was.

Managed to find D-Dog on the 1st side-op
wrangling an interpreter
. Got one more op in me before bed.

Episode 11
Holy Kojima, i accidentally triggered this mission when approaching a side-ops. Oh boy, this gave me The Eng boss memories a lot. Funny thing is that i felt like i was playing dating sim at the end of mission when i had to choose decision between Miller's and Ocelot's. Also, that naked Quiet in Medical base @@

Yeah, I have them running right now. You can (I think) have it play through the DS4 speaker which I haven't tried yet.

Without it. I don't wanna play with it on but it sure would make things easier. Open world makes things pretty hard.
Reflex mode was the first thing I turned off when I got to the options menu and I love it.
Headphones on, complete awareness of my surroundings. If I fuck up there's already more than enough time to fix the situation, but if I mess that up as well - time for a firefight with lots of shooting, smoke grenades, flanking, calling in supply drops, dodging mortars and all that jazz.

This stuff alone is by far the most fun I've ever had in a game.

So do we all agree the open world is totally lame? Some of the people giving me shit for calling it out on Saturday are agreeing with me on Tuesday.

There's nothing there man, nothing.

Duh. That's the same as real rural Afghanistan and Africa and whatever.

I thought the environment just existed as a playing ground for levels to be designed within.

For some reason the loadout isn't letting me bring smoke grenades. I can use other stuff I've researched fine but it won't let me select them, they're just X'd out. Doesn't clarify why.

Do you have enough GMP/materials? I believe items other than the starting gear cost resources to deploy.
