can someone just answer a q for me?

can you kill quiet with a gun with like...real bullets and still get her? I thought i had to drain her stamina so i did the entire fight with a tranq.

a tranq pistol. against a sniper.

but hey it worked. just curious if i put myself through way too much work
About your question, yes you can.

But did you get anything stuff after that? In previous games draining stamina bar gave you extra stuff over draining the life bar.

I put 2 C4s on one of them while there was a sandstorm. That barely put a dent in them but they did smoke up a bit. But yea I needed a launcher to finish them off. So for me it took 2 C4s + 3 missiles to take out one. You could probably do it with C4 but it will take like 4-8 lol

All the tanks follow a similar route so just chuck some C4 in the road and then wait for them to pass above it and then set it off.

I keep getting messages of fighting happen in my MB, making my people get injured and sent to sickbay. What do I need to do to prevent this?
I already qalk around base to rise the morale too.

Just finished the prologue last night. Had new clue what was going on 90% of the time. Questioned if I was having a stroke or not until I remembered I was playing a Kojima game.

Great stuff so far. :)

Everyone remember the original "Phantom Pain" VGA 2012 trailer... the one that had a person on fire that looked like Raiden.... (prologue spoiler below)

I can't believe that was Quiet... I mean to see her sneak up and kill the doctor and nurse was freaking awesome. I am so excited to see where her story goes (only on the Honey Bee mission now).

I really, REALLY want to play this damn game.
I'm currently at Peace Walker, and just realized I'm just rushing the game and not enjoying it at all. I know it's a good game, but I'm rushing it to play PH.
Is there any video on youtube that explain PW and GZ's story, so I can play Phantom Pain?
There's a three hour youtube vid that edit the whole game like a movie you can watch.

Only got to play the prologue last night since the game data install got stuck.

I really enjoyed the prologue. The presentation was fantasic: music, graphics and it felt tense.

Those small satellite dishes with a little box next to it with a blue light, how do I destroy it?

I thought I could just walk up and disable it but that didn't work.

I'm guessing you need to destroy it with explosives, but Im afraid that will alert nearby guards.

So a couple of questions about the prologue :
- Can I replay it? I got an A and OCD in me wants to get an S, I just finished it and the game went straight to mission 1

- Was that face you get to choose how Snake looks now? Or just how he was supposed to look like if the surgery would have taken place?

- Do we get to know who the heck is Ishmael?

- And lastly, wasn't that re-encounter between Big Boss and Ocelot a little bit on the anticlimactic side? "Hi I'm Revolver Ocelot, you know me " after the events of MGS 3 that re-encounter was kind of meh

Yeah, I believe you need to use something like C4, but I haven't actually tried since I don't want to alert everybody.

Is there any way to increase my relationship with the dog other than completing the main missions?

He's def my favourite companion but I find it just really hard not to do stuff like accidentally shoot him, run him over with trucks etc, making it really hard to level up his loyalty.

Don't think I got an answer to this yesterday, but does anyone know?

(Brief possible character spoiler, but if you've finished the prologue at least you might know)

That is THE Psycho Mantis, right? I was on blackout for this game for a long time so not sure if that's something we were expected to have known beforehand.

Yep, you have to use explosives.

It will put some guards on caution in the vicinity but if you use C4 you can plan around it and even set it off as a distraction (good way to get behind enemy lines). Usually if I've dispatched most of the guards in a viewing distance I use grenades. It's easy to circumvent them since they won't rush to it unless there are any guards nearby that would actually be able to see you.

Not shooting him or running him over with a truck should do the trick

It's so crazy that they were showing footage of this game three years ago, and that it all looks pretty much identical to the finished game. I wonder how long ago they started recording the dialogue.

One grievance from a few pages back I want to echo: Ocelot talking over the cassette tapes. Come on. You had the foresight to dim the tape audio but not outright pause/resume it? I gotta open the menu every time, rewind, and listen again.

Anyone have any tips for Mission 7 (I believe)?

It is the one where
you have to find the intel on the guy being driven and protected by two tanks and you gotta destroy the tanks. I wasn't able to do anything before the tanks got to that base at the end, the one where you do the honeybee mission, so that is where my auto save is. I have the first rocket launcher equipped, but it doesn't seem to do much to them.

Read this:

http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Peace_Walker_Incident

Watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LyyHqchsBw

And listen to every Cassette tape which talks about previous incidents closely. Maybe watch or play ground zeroes, it's like an hour of gameplay, before Phantom Pain

This is the first Metal Gear Solid game in a long time that doesn't really require you to know much of what's going on. I've got three friends who are already screaming GOTY and none of them have played Metal Gear in their lives.

EDIT: I read and watched those two links because I hated Peace Walker, I played the HD version, then I played Ground Zeroes afterwards. Did this about a month and a half ago.

Guys, why do I always get the Chick codename even when I beat the missions with perfect stealth and 0 kills? :(

Sometimes I get chick. Sometimes I get octopus. If I had to guess, I think I got octopus on a mission where I used a bunch of different equipment? Chick might be you didn't hurt many people?

I think it's because Kojima does the story and cutscenes first and then works on the gameplay and levels design, which takes most of his time, especially for a gameplay heavy game like this. Remember ho win MGS4 even in the earliest trailers he had cutscenes that made it into the game, eventhough the graphics were downgraded due to PS3 being less powerful than what he expected the cutscene itself stayed more or less the same.

I used a combination of C4, Decoy, and Missile Launcher. I played my Decoy and then set up three C4s in a line on the road. When the convoy appeared I popped the Decoy which stops the convoy cause they shoot at it. I then popped the C4 taking out the first tank. Missiled the second tank. Then ran down the truck on my horse to fulton the guy out.

If it's anything like the previous games (Peace Walker specifically) the codenames have less to do with your score and more to do with your overall playstyle (i.e what weapons you use, what approach, etc.)

Troy Baker seriously needs to learn how to pronounce "Tselinoyarsk." It's pronounced exactly as it is written, minus the T. C'mon.
I'm pretty sure he does and I'm equally sure that he's mispronouncing on purpose. In fact that mispronunciation made me realize Ocelot's stupid accent for what it is/he was trying to do.

downloaded and started last night, got to episode 2.

2 things:

1) holy crap dat prolouge. that might be the craziest thing ive ever seen in gaming.

2) when i completed episode one and
put kax on the helicopter
- it said 2/5 missions completed. could I have stayed there and completed more missions? or do I come back later and do those?

I waited till the convoy reached a bridge, the two guys driving the prisoners truck got out. I tranq'd them both whilst the tank was looking elsewhere. Popped 2 smoke grenades infront of the tank and drove off with the prisoner.

Just reached (major spoilers)
Chapter 2
Holy shit that intro got me so fucking pumped.
I know that word is completely overused but that
Sahelanthropus
battle was one of the most epic boss fight I've played. So goddamn intense.

These are just mission tasks, something extra to do in a mission. Take them as something to make you replay the missions again, replay value.

You could have remained to do those but it's recommended that you do so under a replay of the mission I believe, since the optional objectives are left hidden until after you complete the main one. Usually some of them involve doing it without getting spotted or extracting another prisoner (in the mission you mention, I believe one of the alternative objectives was
beating it without getting spotted by the Skulls
).

Did you see GAF before launch? The 500 hour thread, the spoiler free impressions thread (I am now calling the pre-OT) and a spoiler thread that reached 100 pages before the game even launched. Buzz seems quite high all over from what I've seen.

As for how big it is, I've played for 15 hours and am at 7%. Even then, the game encourages replays.

I'm not talking about stuff like that. I hadn't seen many titles on NeoGaf specifically about stuff in the game -- like things that amazed them, interesting things or aspects about the world, gameplay, threads with links to youtube videos, etc. Stuff I'd expect forums and sites to be buzzing about, especially when it comes to an open world game like this.

I also didn't see many articles on the front page of a bunch of different game sites - some mentioned that it had launched, or had a review up, another had an article. I wasn't even sure if it had launched yet. When other large games launched, like Skyrim, GTA5, sites, forums, etc. were filled with stuff about the games.

The credits are such a bad element in such a great game. Not only are they immersion breaking, they also spoil stuff. It's also irritating to see the same thing over and over again.

Hoping someone creates a mod to take them out.

Ha, the wife just bought this for me as a surprise, so I'll have a crack this evening hopefully.

How will I get on!?

I haven't played a MGS since MGS1 many years ago
I'm famously bad at stealth games

Looking forward to it.

It is a strange design choice. Makes it feel like a bunch of mini games rather then one big epic game.

Use c4 if you want to remain stealthy.

The guards will not go into Combat mode, just Alert mode which is basically this games Caution mode and Combat is this games Alert mode.

So...I got a D on the first mission after the prologue. I need to read some beginners tips for this game if I want to get any better at it. Any suggestions?

is there a point to not do a tactical takedow? As in making them dizzy and not kill them?

Were you not being stealthy? I did pretty crap and got an A. Just sneak your way through the level.
