How do I get cassette tapes to play on the companion app so I can listen to them during a commute or something? Every time I try to go to the cassette thing, it gives me an error message while the regular iDroid thing works fine.

Also I got delivered to the med platform and Snake Eater started playing. I was legit spooked for a while.

It took a while for me to realise it was coming from the cell, lol.

One of my favorite things to do so far is clearing bases with my bionic arm. Who needs a tranq gun? Just wait around the corner and then sprint and deliver a mega punch.

I do this to random people on the base pretty often. It's just funny that when they wake up they say thanks.

I have a question for those deep into the game-
Chapter 2
.

Regarding one of the tapes-
White Mamba 3
.

Stop reading if you haven't gotten this far.

So the African kids have gone AWOL and been brought back again, triggering the scene where Eli and mini-Mantis run off with the Metal Gear, and it's established in the third tape and the cutscene that there's a biological connection between Eli and BB. This is quite a leap from where I was at story-wise, and I thought I was paying attention to the tapes and had done a lot of side-ops too. Without going into too much detail, could you point me in the direction where this connection is first hinted at?
Any help will be appreciated. PMs welcome.

I believe
soon after you first being the White Mamba back to Mother Base Kaz mentions Les Enfants Terribles. It might be after the rematch. I think either Ocelot or Kaz says they'll run some tests to see if their suspicions are correct (whether or not Eli's BB's clone), the idea being that they think he might be the 'weapon to surpass Metal Gear' that's located in Africa. I don't think it's a tape, so perhaps you missed it.

So... Played MGS 2/3/4 and i love the games/story. Never actually finished GZ, just didn't click with me. Should i get this? Or should i try and go back and play GZ again before buying this due to them being similar?

Soooo, how does the PS3 version compare to the PS4 version? Anybody know?

I can't afford a PS4 right now and I don't wanna wait to play this game.

Is there some sort of consequence to knifing people after you grab them? I keep getting this kind of negative sounding riff when I do it during side ops. It seems to only happen when I kill someone that way. Also is there anywhere to find out how long the various stuns last? I had a sniper wake up after being thrown and it couldn't have lasted more than 2mins.

Got to the part where you have to replay older missions on a harder difficulty in order to progress the story. Pretty boring, embarassing design.

Holy shit at episode 11!!!

I was going to rescue Huey and on the way in the ruin I meet Quiet! and straight into boss battle! I assume this is how the episode 11 is suppose to be triggered? I wonder if there is other way to trigger it...
anyways I was lucky I took DD as my buddy. DD was marking her for me so it was really helpful.
It triggered for me going after the stun arm side op.

Have a jiff:

And I'm done for the day, lol.

I mean...

Just did mission 11. Damn that was crazy
Went sniper vs sniper even though I'm more of a tranq type of dude. No idea how the heck you sneak up on Quiet. Tried it a bunch of times being real quite and she grenaded me and ran away

A lot of people are enjoying the open world too. Just wish it resonated with me the same way.

I can see where you're coming from. Between the horribly un-navigable terrain (sorry Afghanistan), fast travel being burdensome and the tendency to cover the same forts repeatedly I get this crazy sense of deja vu playing the game. I went off the unbeaten path a couple times and it was completely not worth it.

Couple examples, I went off exploring and ended up at the fort where mission 10 takes place. Cleared it out and then I had to do it again once I got the actual mission. For a no-kill no-alert type of player redoing optimized runs isn't that fun. Another thing (meeting Quiet spoiler)
I heard some Russian troops talking about her being at the power plant around mission 4 or 5. I make my way to the power plant and there's nothing there. Why just throw that out there if I wasn't supposed to check it out?

Gonna stick to missions from now on.

Mother Base is fucking cool, even if there's nothing to do there

Anyone else's Prisoner Extraction 02 not greyed out even though they've done it?

@above, just hold L1/LB. Should be added to the list of options on there

That would be pretty lame. I think "save anywhere" options ruin gameplay.

In other words, this game's fast travel option is terrible. Why couldn't they just use the helicopter?

Really? You think it's better if a game forces you to play for possibly another 20 to 40 minutes if you want to close it? It should at the very least save when I quit the game. Doesn't even have to perfectly save the state you're in, as long as I keep the resources and stuff I've gathered since the last checkpoint, I'm fine with everything else. Spawn me back outside the base I was in, whatever.

Does online on pc still not work or am i missing something?

It's intermittent, I could get online when I first started playing, managed to get on later enough to download the GZ save and then it went down again. I'm not anywhere near the FOB stuff so it shouldn't matter either way.

the only cool thing i found just wandering was a thing that, looking at the map, they clearly wanted to funnel players into :(

it was pretty fucking cool

that's the sort of shit I was hoping the game was full of, you'd crest a hill and then BAM in a cutscene or some whacky adventure starts or whatever

40 hour mid game report. I am at mission 20 so still have a long way to go. I enjoy replaying missions for ranks and stuff so that is why I am so slow.

Doesn't need to be said again but in terms of gameplay this is a monumental game for stealth games. I have never experienced such gameplay freedom. Never played a game where both stealth and action are equally as fun and unpredictable. This is one of the most fun games to play that I have ever experienced. The missions keep getting more and more elaborate. The way enemies develop new tactics is super impressive. This is almost the game of my dreams.

But it is not quite there because this game seems to be missing an important ingredient of MGS games and what I expect of my favorite games. I want my games to break up the normal flow with exciting moments, usually boss fights handle this. In MGS games of the past the story served as a hype machine for those awesome boss and scripted action moments. It was the perfect blend of the stealth gameplay with the unpredictable bosses and situations that made this my second favorite franchise.

MGSV is lacking in that area. The story is mostly in the background with almost no interesting characters. The unique cast is support team members or bosses is missing. I have fought two bosses in 40 hours, not exactly the ratio I was looking for. Yes there was an incredible moment mid game, and I am sure there will be more but it's spread out too far.

That's all that is missing, a sense of energy pushing you forward. Unique surprising moments that break the flow of the normal gameplay. I am not saying this game doesn't have those, I feel it could use more. It's a shame cause with this gameplay the level of creativity in boss design should have been taken to a new level.

I enjoy the base management, it gives a nice steady flow of progress. I have never once felt the need to grind, though I do fulton everything. In terms of replayability this game is off the charts, finding alternate ways to finish missions is a blast, also trying to get high on those leaderboards as well. I have yet to even unlock FOB which will consume my soul I assume.

So as of now it's a flawed masterpiece. Maybe it ends in the most spectacular way possible, who knows. Either way this is easily my GOTY.

Can you miss cutscenes? I just did some sideops and randomly went back to Mother Base without doing another main mission and got a cutscene with Ocelot..

Do they just appear whenever you go there or do you have to go to MB at specific times to not miss some of them?

Completed intro then went searching for
Kaz. not a spoiler but just being careful.

This is something really special. Ive almost cried so many time from pure overwhelming emotion, and I don't cry. This might be the pinnacle of games.

I think S is speed + side objectives. I killed many guys, but as long as I did everything and did it swiftly I got S.

Mother Base is fucking cool, even if there's nothing to do there

Yeah. weird. But I think it was greyed out once I did the third or fourth... not sure.

Anyone unlock any headgear options? Kind of weird how - so far - there's nothing for Snake, but Combat Unit troops get 2 balaclavas.

It's intermittent, I could get online when I first started playing, managed to get on later enough to download the GZ save and then it went down again. I'm not anywhere near the FOB stuff so it shouldn't matter either way.

Does it only work later into the game?
I got the log in reward on both days so far and it shows at Online all the time but i can´t really do a thing with it.

Which point?

.

I used ammo/supply drops to land on
her head
and danced around like a duck as a distraction. I couldn't believe it worked.

Copy and paste climbing points every and that would solve a huge problem I have with this. It doesn't feel like I'm going to a mission (or a legendary whatever) when I'm tracing a mountainside for 5 minutes trying to find a way to the location.

i agree there. there's been times when something looks like it should be traversable (or a ledge I should be able to jump and grab) and can't.
