Episode 10

They've drove off with the prisoner, should I give chase or clear this place out first?

Not being able to tranq
Ocelot
during the CQC tutorial is a sham. At least he has some funny dialog though if you mess with him.

The game desperately needs a manual save option
yeah, its frustrating during a mission when you are presented with the opportunity to do something risky that could 1) be totally badass and play out perfectly, or 2) total FUBAR you stealth run and jeopardize a plan you've sent significant time executing.....

In those scenarios I end up playing it safe (not taking big risks) because I don't want to start from square one if the mission goes to hell.
It would be ideal to be able to save so that you can take chances, and then simply reload if it doesn't play out as you hoped... Sure, penalize me in the ranking for loading a quick save, but whatever... the option should be there.

This game.... like, genuinely, this. Game.

Absolutely fantastic work.

It is an absolute masterpiece, I can't quite put it into words right now but this deserves every 10/10 review it received. It's one of the games of a generation. Kojima and his crew put all they had into this one and made something really special. The last game I marathoned like that was Skyrim. Need to go play more, need to put a real opinion into words.

i got unbelievable lucky with the mission. I tranq'd a roaming patrol and the car stopped to check them out. Popped a few smoke grenades and just casually walked up and got in the drivers seat and took off. Took about 5 mins. It was awesome.

Loving this so far. Spent like an hour just roaming around taking over outposts. Question for those far into it or who have completed it. Are there boss fights in the game? If so are they like previous games?

On mission 17. The latest tape I found was
Spandau Ballet - True.
In the same mission, I overheard two guards talking and I think of them said he
was going to give his own child to a trafficker (to become a child soldier?)
. This is dark.

Ive been looking for tha ttape ever since i heard it on mother base after i captured
quiet

best tapes

I really dug Codetalker, such a great character and fantastic performance too. Infact the whole language aspect about the game surprised the hell out of me and kind of resonated with me as a guy from the Middle East. Kojima implemented a great idea with his insanity. I'm at mission 38 now so I still have more to go but I kind of don't want it to end even though I want to see that ending badly haha.

My big thing is when you travel 2000m to your location and you just happen to be on the wrong side of the base for what you want to do. If there's no mountains you're forced to trek another 1000m to go around the other side or try anyways with less than desirable circumstances.

I'm kind of at odds with the day/night cycle too. Most missions there's just no way in hell I'm trying them during the day. Why would I? In other words what's the point.

Quick question, it's not at all a story spoiler but I'll tag it just in case...

Story Mission 4 (or 3?):
The one where I have to destroy communications equipment. I went with what was probably the intended method of C4 on 3 white satellite dishes, but I also saw a bigger black satellite in the middle of the camp. Could I have blown that one up to take out all of the others? Are there any other way to finish this mission than C4? Kaz keeps saying do it however you want so I'm curious what the other possibilities are.

I also interrogated some dudes, one told me about a special soldier but I couldn't find him. Does anyone know where that guy was?

Anyone know where PC save files for this are located? I'm tempted to cut and paste them elsewhere so I can replay the prologue and then cut and paste the old save files back into the folders when I'm done. Anyone try this yet?

This week's famitsu cover seems to be another new Shinkawa art

So I didn't get too far past the (amazing!) prologue last night, but I'm already getting that anxiousness that I also got with Ground Zeroes. I just have such a hard time spotting enemies, and always end up walking out right in front of one. I think my problem is that I am always trying to rush through zones for some reason, instead of taking it safe and slow. I totally forgot about playing music though. That's exactly how I got through GZ. I just put Love Deterrence acoustic on repeat and it really helped. I really would love to be able to beat a mission with no sightings though. Maybe I need to play like some of you and just reload last checkpoint if I'm sighted.

Also, I really don't enjoy going house to house picking up materials. I assume they're important later though, so I'm doing it. I look forward to
rescuing Kaz
later tonight when I get home.

The bigger satellites are anti-air radars. Destroying them
opens up more landing zones for the helicopter.

Any specialists soldiers tell you about appear on your iDroid map as red triangles with small yellow dots.

Reposting from last night

How soon do I get
Quiet
as a buddy?
Just had the cutscene where she attempts to join and fires at the heli blades but doesn't tag along.

When will I be able to get suppressors for my sniper rifle? Or longer lasting suppressors for my other guns?

Just got the DD sneaking suit. Bad ass.

Ya I don't know about you but I'm not that great at games like this. I try to take my time to the max, and DEFINITELY tag everyone I can find before I even set foot in the base.

Mission 18
was really fucking good. I went lethal towards the end with Quiet dropping them like flies. Felt absolutely heroic.

Seeing the cutscene with the kids, these trailers were so misleading.

It'd be nice if there were objective based checkpoints in addition to whatever it is now. I did a perfect run of mission 10 and at the end
dropped the hostage and he fell off a cliff and died lol
.

Messing up on the exhilaration is painful too

40 hour mid game report. I am at mission 20 so still have a long way to go. I enjoy replaying missions for ranks and stuff so that is why I am so slow.

Doesn't need to be said again but in terms of gameplay this is a monumental game for stealth games. I have never experienced such gameplay freedom. Never played a game where both stealth and action are equally as fun and unpredictable. This is one of the most fun games to play that I have ever experienced. The missions keep getting more and more elaborate. The way enemies develop new tactics is super impressive. This is almost the game of my dreams.

But it is not quite there because this game seems to be missing an important ingredient of MGS games and what I expect of my favorite games. I want my games to break up the normal flow with exciting moments, usually boss fights handle this. In MGS games of the past the story served as a hype machine for those awesome boss and scripted action moments. It was the perfect blend of the stealth gameplay with the unpredictable bosses and situations that made this my second favorite franchise.

MGSV is lacking in that area. The story is mostly in the background with almost no interesting characters. The unique cast is support team members or bosses is missing. I have fought two bosses in 40 hours, not exactly the ratio I was looking for. Yes there was an incredible moment mid game, and I am sure there will be more but it's spread out too far.

That's all that is missing, a sense of energy pushing you forward. Unique surprising moments that break the flow of the normal gameplay. I am not saying this game doesn't have those, I feel it could use more. It's a shame cause with this gameplay the level of creativity in boss design should have been taken to a new level.

I enjoy the base management, it gives a nice steady flow of progress. I have never once felt the need to grind, though I do fulton everything. In terms of replayability this game is off the charts, finding alternate ways to finish missions is a blast, also trying to get high on those leaderboards as well. I have yet to even unlock FOB which will consume my soul I assume.

So as of now it's a flawed masterpiece. Maybe it ends in the most spectacular way possible, who knows. Either way this is easily my GOTY.

100% agreed

you can set custom soundtrack stuff for the idroid right? I need to be able to play darude - sandstorm during sandstorms.

also how long do people stay down after being held up? I held up a guy and I swear he stayed on the ground for like 20 minutes, and only got back up because I triggered an alert.

So at some point all those locked doors on Mother Base are going to unlock, right?

I don't particularly like being locked out on my own goddamn base.

I didn't mean it like that but now that I think of it, you're absolutely right

I don't really care about the points at all, so take em all from me if you want to, just let me save scum. Would definitely encourage me to give a bunch of different tactics a try.

I was lurking outside of a base, spying from a nearby hilltop, looking for a way in. Two dudes in a jeep drive up. They get out of the jeep. One gets back in and starts to drive. He hits and kills the other guy with the jeep. Then he jumps out, starts shouting, radios in that they've been attacked and there's a man down, and the base goes into an alert phase.

This game does the stealth stuff best out of any MGS game so far. It's a shame it doesn't really feel like a Metal Gear game to me though. It just feels really dry.

If you tell someone to get down after holding them up they'll stay down until another enemy tells them to get up or if you enter a combat alert. It's essentially the best way to make sure people don't get back up without killing them as long as there's no one around.
