what platform should I add to mother base first? R&D?
R & D and Base Development have my focus - Base Development gives me a decent amount of resources for now. Still need to upgrade my fulton to grab the large containers.

Votes aren't necessary. MGS4 is bad as far as the series is concerned, and if hadn't been the much hyped 'Last iteration of the Metal Gear Solid saga' it would have been viewed as such.

Everything after Act 2 relies of nostalgia and revealing secrets. Act 3 onwards might as well of been a comic book.

"Screw the votes, I know better!"

You seem to forget that you are in a minority regarding your opinion on MGS4.

That's all we have, opinions, but don't act like yours is somehow the general consensus.

votes are absolutely necessary when the claim is about the fanbase's opinion.

I don't really care what your personal opinion on MGS4 was, as it's not relevant to the point.

Not been on MGSForums.com much, have you? They all seem to hate MGS4 on there and MGS:TUS closed down after MGS4's release. So yeah, I'd say the fanbase was pretty split on it. Even if the majority on NeoGAF loved it (wasn't there a Metal Gear popularity poll on here more recent where MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 all beat MGS4 on votes by a considerable margin?)

just because it's the worst numbered entry doesn't make the game bad

though V might take that title unless something big happens before I finish this game. again, doesn't make it bad. there are no bad metal gear games, just "less good" ones.

Up to the part where the missions are just the old ones but much harder. For a start, I don't even know how to do one of them. More to the point though...what the fuck? They ran our of missions so you just do old ones with no explanation in the story or anything?

MGS4 was bad after Act 2 (Metal Gear Online 2 saved it). Snake's Revenge was bad. Digital Graphic Novel was bad. Portable Ops+ was bad. There's plenty of bad Metal Gear out there.

I just finished the prologue and Ch. 1 and I'm confused who the two characters were in the prologue. If you find out later in the game please don't say anything. But did I miss something? I'll put my questions in spoiler tags for those that haven't completed the prologue.

Whose face did you customize at the start of the game? Was that big boss? Or was that guy who was helping you escape the hospital? I might have just made the customization look too close to big boss but the guy I was playing as looked like big boss.

Also what happens to the guy who was helping us escape? He died in the escape ambulance, right?

For the sake of people just coming into the game:

Your MGO avatar, which isn't live until October, and yea, he was killed by the gunship that took out your ambulance.

Couple of questions.

Do the different patterns actually affect visibility? Like is the downside to the sneaking suit that the dark colour stands out from the desert environment.

Where is DD on Mother Base? He's still a pup, but I've only seen him in cutscenes.

^"My opinion is right, yours is wrong."

I think this game is the anti MGS4 in a lot of ways. Especially in terms of presentation,; MGS4 was basically one long interactive movie, MGSV is basically gameplay driven first, story now ushered to the back, the exposition the series is known for also pushed now on to the tapes and real time radio. It's a completely different approach. I can see the MGS4 fans hating this game more than others. For me, it brings me back to days of MGS1, when the cutscenes were a real treat whenever you get them, rather than in vast abundance.

Wut

This reminds you of MGS1 how? That game was focused and had interesting characters and story. Where as MGSV feels meandering and a bit all over the place. It's about the furthest thing from MGS1 to me. The stealth game play is still very good though.

Just had some guy spoil the ending in regards to
the player character.

Frustrating as hell. And it was responding to something COMPLETELY unrelated to Metal Gear at all. Just out of nowhere, boom.

Thankfully it wasn't very detailed.

Has anyone had success in connecting to the app? I was online before and tried to connect and it asked for a number on the PS4 screen, but no number appeared.

Also, has anyone gotten the reward for 9/1? I assume nobody was able to connect yesterday so that reward should be available today but all I got was 15 MB.

MGS4 tried to be what MGS5 is but it was too early. Act 1 had decent scale for the time and there were battles going on with you in the shadows. What KojiPro wanted was sneaking on a huge battlefield.

MGS4 also needed to mop up all the story related stuff caused by MGS2 in particular. So it got bloated with explanations and the scope of Act 1 was gone in the subsequent Acts. The game litterally deteriorates, Act 2 still had some freedom. Act 3's first part had less than that, and with the action gone. Act 4 had even less than that, and Act 5 was complete dogshit where an alert would never end.

It's more interesting than the shit show that MGS4 was.

Votes aren't necessary because your opinion is fact.

Ok.

My opinion isn't fact, but on MGS4 it's pretty damn close, and I refuse to be told otherwise.

I firmly believe that people who don't think MGS4 is either the worst or second worst game in the series are willfully blind to the truth. If I lined up all MGS games, and demanded you play one, and you decide to replay MGS4 I refuse to acknowledge you as a human being.

MGS4 is 2/5ths of a good game.

Ah okay, you would think they would do the character creation when you start that.

Can you change the character's look later on?

Man, this is how you do openworld.
I just spent 2hrs collecting trucks and turrets, and setting off alarm so I can interrogate them for elite specialist and diamonds.

it's not a contradiction to assert that MGS4 is well loved and that fans of the series think 1, 2, and 3 are all substantially better. this isn't a binary scale.

you're right that i don't spend much time on the MGSForums, though.

edit: sorry for the derail everyone. back to MGSV.

Does the recruit screen identify the new guys who were just fultoned? I just went back to mission 1 and extracted the commander from the barracks but I have no idea who he is and nobody has very good stats. Do the people you fulton from the optional objectives become part of the team?

MGS4, the game that to this day is discussed lol amazing. I personally loved it but then again I have been following and enjoying the insanity since 1999.

How do I stop fights breaking out?

Tried putting diplomats on the team and two troublemakers together

Do the diplomats need to outnumber them?

Also, how do I get my soldiers to get materials for me? They say "Need materials? Just ask!" on MB

And finally...

When should I return to med bay for the miss-able cutscene?

MGS4 is 2/5ths of a good game.

It's striking how quickly MGS4 becomes a mindnumbingly boring game.

To me the main upside to nonlethal in MG games is that people often don't totally freak out when they find a sleeping dude and just wake him up rather than alerting the whole country. Also quieter, and you get a score bonus in missions for no kills.

The downside is of course that they DO wake back up. In some cases pretty quickly, like a plain old CQC throw doesn't last long.

I just think it's more fun and in the spirit of the stealth genre to play nonlethally. It also makes me get more creative, for example I am in love with smoke bombs and the bionic aaaaaaarm now. I did some Rambo playthroughs in GZ and it was actually easier but not as fun. Well, the shotgun is great. But there's a nonlethal shotgun in TPP! I loved that in MGS4.

Relax man. It's a game. Have fun. Some people on here have been getting pretty worked up lol

I was able to get a few hours in last night. Made it up through mission 3. Some initial impressions.

– Intro was definitely nuts and full of that crazy Kojima charm, a much like Kojima’s signature stuff, it was also in need of some editing, because it went on for a bit too long in some sections. After some time, I just wanted to play the game. The stuff that happens was really interesting though. I never saw this in the trailers,
I don’t know who Ishmael is, but it sounded like Keifer as well. Figment of Boss’s imagination or something else?

– I could swear at the beginning of the intro I heard the radio voice guy from P.T. And now I'm reminded of P.T. Sigh

– Graphics are good looking and everything moves smoothly, though I have to be honest, I’m not as impressed by this game visually after playing the Witcher 3 on and off for the last 3 months. I know this game is cross gen and W3 isn’t, but still. Not complaining, though. I think the game still looks fantastic

– I suck at the stealth. Keep getting the areas alerted, but combating your foes is satisfying to execute, especially doing those CQC’s! I spent over an hour on mission 3, where I’m sure I could have spent 3 minutes on it, because I wanted to fulton EVERYTHING back to base. I didn’t kill anyone, but I ran circles around the building punching the throwing people into walls. So much for stealth. Maybe next time. Got a C ranking for it, too :(

I won’t really be able to dive into this game like I want to until this weekend, but I’m totally engaged right now. Looks like the game has opened up and I’m ready to dive in head first. I just hope know one sees me when I do that.

You sound like a reasonable, open-minded individual.

Anyone ordered the Steelbook edition from Shopto? I got a dispatch notice on Friday night and it still hasn't been delivered, no 'we missed you' card or anything (Royal Mail). Starting to worry :(

I love how MGS4's fans only defense is always basically "bu-bu-but it's popular" rather than try to legit defend it.

it's not a contradiction to assert that MGS4 is well loved and that fans of the series think 1, 2, and 3 are all substantially better. this isn't a binary scale.

So...you're speaking for the fanbase, then. Without knowing for sure first whether MGS4 is liked by the fans. Cool, just so we've established that.

Total utter bullshit. It's viewed as a fantastic game cause that is what it was. People love a game you don't like, deal with it.

It's almost like people have opinions or something. I hated the garbage that was MGS4 and am glad to see the focus shift away from that movie.

I can replay every game in this series to this day and enjoy them in one way or another. Not with MGS4 though.

i mean real metal gear games

MGS4 was fucking awesome after act 2. acts 1 and 2 were probably my least favorite parts of the game, honestly. shit started getting real crazy with act 3, and it didn't let up for the rest of the game.

Played a little bit last night. Really liked the intro. The only issue I have so far is that D-horse controls like shit.

I agree. Riding a horse in a game will prob never be perfect but they should've used RDR's "keep tapping to accelerate" thing.

By the way why is it called D-Horse?

Wow yeah, you sound like a great guy

Smh

what platform should I add to mother base first? R&D?

I wouldn't really say R&D is really that important early on, if you want something specific just place all staff into that facility temporarily. But usually you need money and resources so I focused on the combat unit, it brings in a lot of soldiers, resources and money, then it is easier to fill out the other areas, but you will probably want to start expanding prior to unlocking that so I would go with base development unit as that speeds up the time it takes to get more resources for building the base.

MGSForums members can hate the game all they want. My point still stands. This is a game that got these scores from both critics and fans:

CLUWVz1.png

And regarding the bolded, no one here is arguing if MGS4 is better than the previous 3. But it was a great game that deserved all the scores it got. That's it. You can hate it all you want, but just deal with the fact that your opinion goes against the consensus, which is completely fine.

Actually your opinion on mgs4 is the minority

Yeah? Prove it.
