The story of this game is just so dumb, I really don't know what Kojima was thinking with everything post-MGS3. As far as I'm concerned, there are the first 3 MGS games and that's it. The other sequels just undermine the themes and characters too much. There's only so many doppelgängers I can handle.

Did we really need another Big Boss fakeout to add another layer of stupid to the series? It's descended into self-parody with all the extreme cliches of Japanese writing.

Preach.

You're not alone.

Yep. He was pretty great in that too.

I think most MGS fans would agree he was best antagonist by far in any of the games. He was your equal but also your opposite. Your professor Moriarty.

Imagine how different the entire universe had been if Kojima had kept him alive. I think it's easily one of his biggest regrets.

Personally, I had to put up with a lot of dumb shit in the MGS series over the decades.

But the insinuation/argument that Big Boss planned Operation Intrude N313 11 years ahead of time without actually ever meeting Solid Snake (or technically Liquid either) is just the straw that broke the camels' back.

Fuck this series' story, this is fucking stupid.

Konami said the MGS isn't done. Maybe we'll get a Liquid game during the Gulf War.

Apparently, Liquid was gonna be Sons of Liberty, but he was scrapped. Terrible decision.

For what it's worth I don't think it was 11 years in advance at all and that he only planned it shortly before it happened. A few people are speculating that it was before 1995 but there's no evidence to support it beyond "Look at this old art of Big Boss. Does this look like Venom Snake?"

Shouldn't Liquid's (and Mantis') tendency to hijack Metal Gears have been reason enough to not include him in the Shadow Moses exercise?

The more you think about this game's story the more it retroactively fucks up the rest of the series.

My opinion incoming

This whole ending just sounds sooo stupid. What happened really? Somewhere along the lines Kojima fell in love with big boss, the series original antagonist. Ever since then, he has been actively trying to change that. Which is fine, there his characters, but he is changing them so much that the intent is no longer even clear. And I know its Metal gear and there is lots of twists/turns, clones and all that crap. But I really thought we were going to see BB rise and fall in this one. BB was this series darth vader so to speak. Instead Kojima cant even have any kind of redemption for this character because he is an angel and anything bad he had ever done was not done my him. Im not going to lie, I love this series but its lore, timeline and weirdness was always really hard for me to follow so I don’t understand it that much. If this was to be kojimas last metal gear game, then why did he end it this way, if he loves BB, why didn’t he give us one last chance to play as him? I don’t undertstand this at all.

?

Liquid hijacking Shadow Moses with Psycho Mantis was orchestrated by Ocelot and Solidus. If anything it works in their favor that Liquid would want to hijack REX.

It's much more likely that due to cutting the real ending out they rushed the current ending. It was probably supposed to be an old Big Boss dressed differently, that's all. The scene has a fricking MSX turn on when he puts the N313 tape in, then Big Boss in a mirror, it's all meta at this point, and rushed. Don't read too much into it.

I think us MGS fans got too attached to these stories and characters

What's looking great and this seems to be the best playing MGS game yet.

Info/secrets from the strategy guide:

- Yes, you need to include a Butterfly (specifically, the "front" part) in your emblem if you want to stop the chain of events (beginning with Mission 41) that causes Quiet to leave.

- You can put all of the Walker Gears you find in Mission 15 on a flatbed truck and drive it out of the area, which completes the mission.

- The wandering soldier you rescue during Mission 22 is the same guy who helped Miller up after the RPG attack at the end of Ground Zeroes.

- Shooting at the A.I. Pod during Side-Op 143 causes it to speak lines from MGS3 and Peace Walker.

- You can short out transmitters or enemy radios with the Water Gun weapon.

- If Snake is seriously injured, depending on his condition when you extract, he'll either have an IV drip or blood transfusion next to him in the ACC.

- Mother Base staff members in the same unit will eventually learn each other's languages.

Can you still do the mission if you stop her from leaving?

I just can't stop laughing at how Kojima's first plot twist (Big Boss is the commander of Outer Heaven) has been undone by his last plot twist (No he wasn't!).

Can you still do the mission if you stop her from leaving?

The guide is vague about it. It states that completing Mission 41 should be done normally as it's what the designers intended. On page 304, it then states that if your bond with Quiet is at maximum, she disappears at some point after Mission 43 is completed.

It says that the only way to delay her leaving is to either artificially lower your bond with her, or to use the Butterfly emblem. The way it's written, it makes it sound like you can just prevent her leaving in first place by fulfilling either of those conditions, and not have to worry about Mission 41 at all.

EDIT: Another tip from the guide. It states that the easiest way to beat Mission 48 (Code Talker Extreme) is to drop tanks on the Skulls during the opening sniper battle. It suggests killing three of the four, then leaving one alive to guard a pass (which lowers the overall difficulty) and then beating it.

I'm used to the abuse by now. I've always wanted to play as Solid at his apex again since MGS1, and after five games in the series, the closest to that was one geriatric Solid. I gave up a long time ago on getting any sort of satisfying story from Kojima.

First time in this thread as I'm listening to the Truth records.

Am I the only one who was pretty disappointed? It feels hollow and doesn't make complete sense. Are we supposed to decide for ourselves who the true Big Boss is the original Metal Gears?

But I want to play all missions D:

I guess the way to go is just do everything, and if I really miss Quiet, start all over again.

It's made clear that Venom is "Big Boss" in MG1, and that the original Big Boss is in MG2.

Kitatus notified about something:

Do you not remember in Peace Walker; Huey tells Snake about electronic cigarettes and he says "No thank-you, I'd rather stick to cigars"

It was a revelation since that time that this wasn't the real Big Boss.

It was a revelation since when the MGSV trailers came out; Venom Snake was using the Phantom Cigar.

Big Boss in the truth ending smokes cigars while this one accepts electronic ones.

Ok, it's my birthday today. I loaded up the game, finished mission 3 I think it was, and I headed back to mother Base. When I got there, I was met by Miller, Ocelot and a few crew members, they had a big birthday cake for me, I had to blow out the candles lol, oh and all the crew are wishing me a happy birthday lol. Coincidence or Kojima?

My cake :)

in mgs2 it was real

but he had it replaced with a fake arm, then hypnotized himself to believe he was still under the arm's control

I never understood this. Why would you need to hypnotise yourself to believe something when you could just pretend?

Whatever, that plot device was stupid. The whole point of the ruse was that the Patriots would take Liquid less seriously than they would Ocelot, which Ocelot and Big Boss magically knew somehow. 4 was such a mess.

Because "pretending" wouldn't have been enough. The Patriots would have noticed. It had to be 100% convincing, and that including fooling even Ocelot's allies (EVA) and himself.

Haha yeah that's it. Is it part of the game or is it the genius of Kojima and the reason for entering your birth date at the start?

This thing was since MGS2 but it was less elaborated than this, it was just Happy Birthday message that is all. Also putting your real name in the game granst your dogtag with your name in MGS2. Inserting Kojima's name or other Konami Staff memeebrs grants you special messages.

Worst of all, look at the ending they cut in this one. If Liquid had really taken over Ocelot after MGS1, forever, it would have bern perfectly fine. He would have been trying to get back at The Patriots since he was a kid, because he was a failed clone.

Now, he's wrong, Venom is as real as the real BB yet he's just medic.

Only MGS2 and this one have the 'enter your name' thing in it right?

._.

Pythonselkan used that info in their videos to support their argument.

Yeah, I'm done.

I'm going to appreciate the games on their individual merits but the canon means nothing to me, anymore.
