I've just done the Prologue and 3 missions but so far this is amazing. And kinda overwhelming. Haven't really gotten the hang of Mother Base stuff and how to manage staff/upgrades/etc, or things like how to complete all mission objectives.

I'm fine with going through it slowly though. Spent 2-3 hours on Mission 1 alone. Just clearing outposts and trying to be stealthy. After that I've been mixing it up by taking some outposts more violently and found that to be very fun too. Seems like a game where it's kinda up to you to keep it from being tedious. Trying to do everything non-lethal and stealthy would probably grow very old in the long run.

Is there any point to using anything besides the Stealth Suit after you get? Realistically it's not great camo, but it was pretty good in almost every environment in Peacewalker and MGS3. Since there's no camo meter I don't really know.

I just use whatever I think looks cool. If you can't sneak in a speedo, you are no Snake, sirrah.

I think what I'm not digging about the game is I feel like I'm Snake just going around doing chores like taking out the trash and doing the dishes. In other MGS games everything you were moving towards had a purpose and there were always interesting set pieces and characters along the way. In this I'm collecting diamonds, flowers, and medals to make money to get shit that I just would have unlocked or found normally in the old games. Then there's all these disjointed pieces that break up the whole experience. I mean, I knew it would be open world but was expecting something more focused I guess.

I'm starting to wish this game was just a series of expansive levels because honestly the open world component is flat out bad most of the time. It exhibits the worst elements of open world games such as length travelling periods where there is nothing to do and the Motherbase grind is already pissing me off.

Parts of this game are really well done but others are just half-assed.

Isn't your best bet to stick guys up? In Ground Zero if you did that and tell them to lay down, they'd stay down indefinitely, whereas knocking them out or tranqing them would only take them out for a limited time. This not the case in MGS5PP?

There's a real cognitive dissonance between how people treat Snake and how Snake himself acts... in everything but cassettes. It's Silent Protagonist Syndrome and I'm afraid it's terminal.

I found Ishmael during the opening to be rather talkative, actually much like how Big Boss was in previous games.

Played enough to know that points grinding is as bad an idea as it was in PW. It completely discourages experimentation. All those pistols and I have to ignore them because I need the stungun. And it is mandatory to progress through the game.

Just had my first bad day with the game.

Managed to get the
Legendary Weaponsmith (the customization is incredible)
.

But after that I tried to rush some missions and ended up not making any more progress.

Gotta clear my head up a bit and play tomorrow with less hurry.

Played for a few hours yesterday and I'm at work just thinking of playing the game.

First time in a while I've felt this way. The gameplay was definitely the top priority for this game and I can feel the withdrawals from not playing.

All the options you have at your disposal is amazing.

I just realized (by accident) that you can wake up tranquilized enemies by kicking them, then grab them and ask for intel.

GAME CHANGER

I used this tactic during the tank battles in Peace Walker to wake up guys, and then drag them into the path of a tank to get a 0-kill result once I'd run out of fultons :)

I guess I'll see how bad it gets, but so far I have more GMP than I know what to do with from finding a bunch of 100k Diamonds during a mission.

I'm getting this feel too, but I'm spending a ton of time on side stuff (OCD about that shit). I've heard the game feels more Metal Gear once you really crack down on the main stuff.

Because in the beginning, that's pretty much all you're their for anyway. Doing shit to build up Mother Base. Nothing in the story has given any other clear objective yet, so it makes sense.

Yup, expansive levels would have been a way better choice here in my opinion. I struggle between I love this game and why the fuck am I traveling such lengths in a bland environment in order to get to the good stuff?

Yup.

There's a lot of good design decisions that aren't really explained. There might be a hint that explains them, but it's hard to go through them all.

Another tip: If you use CQC to takedown an enemy in the hopes of going for a no-kill run, avoid doing this near cliffs because Snake has a propensity of tossing them off it.

This game is making me hype for the new Hitman lmao

My only problem with it is when you want to go to places that have no LZs. That's when it gets sort of annoying.

Is the Xbox 360 version not too terrible? I'm worried for my friend who has no other option and wants to play the game badly.

Yup.

Rule of thumb in MGS usually is if you wonder if you can do a thing, you can probably do it.
The games have always had such baffling levels of unnecessary detail.

Do we really need to see credits over and over? Not liking sitting through all the tapes either. But yeah, the gameplay is great.

Skip the credits and/or wait for the 20 seconds or so that they're playing.

Play cassettes over your gameplay while you're travelling. Sitting and listening is literally no different to sitting and listening to a codec conversation in past games.

I don't even want Quiet or Diamond Dog as companions because I know I'm gonna have to walk or start deploying with vehicles.

How do I extract the wandering mother base soldier?

He's immune to tranquilizer rounds and when I get close he just knocks me down.

Get a headshot with the tranq, they'll drop instantly

Alright, thanks. I am still early in and am feeling everything out.

Has anyone discovered whether or not GZ save files unlock Camp Omega at any point in the game yet? Or are we to assume it's cut content?

I'm quite gutted actually. There seems to be a few things that were said to be features during the gameplay demonstrations that weren't implemented.

For instance, I believe Sean Eyestone said at some point that you could Fulton shipping containers and ride them to extract yourself from the map. That doesn't appear to be the case anymore though.

I can't salute my soldiers, get picked up by the Helicopter in convenient locations or climb anything.

all it takes is a single tranq dart to the head.

Guessing it's for legal reasons, but Rebel Yell in the music says "1999 digital remaster" lol, kinda throws out the feel of the year.

I'm never going to unequip my tranq pistol, (I usually go through any MG with only it, although in this one I've made a few exceptions), so seeing all these pistols and SMGs that are essentially useless to me also bugs me.

I dig the mother base building stuff overall though.

Experiment bro. You have tons of tools. Smoke grenades for example.

He actually is not immune to tranquilizer rounds to the head.

I caught him while he was spinning in a circle and it was fucking hilarious. Didn't expect a perfect shot.
