I agree during MGSV production from what I recall Kojima himself showed a lot of free time on twitter. Granted he is not making all the assets and in game mechanics but if Mission 51 never shows up at least for me it leaves a bad image for Kojima not Konami.

He played fast and loose with their money hence his departure. The ending we got was such a wash that it seem like he thought about it while sitting on the toilet. But at this point he could care less.

While MGS4 had too many cut scenes I found myself feeling like MGSV did not have enough and they were loosely put together without proper closure or explanation.

Yes the cassette tapes are there but at least some of those important cassette tapes should have been made into cut scenes especially with the amazing Fox Engine.

Fuck quiets final mission.
I see that i have to take out a few tanks so i think no problem. Supply drop my explosive loadout and start firing away. But the Tanks take around 5 shots each to go down. Wave after fucking wave shows up. And i finally hit a checkpoint. At this point i try and quit out to go do other side ops and develop better launchers. Lolnope , locked into the mission until the end , no going back to the ACC.So i end up getting OHK sniped by tanks across the desert through a hole in the palace wallso many times that the Chicken hat keeps popping up. I think why not see what it does? Fucking. Nothing. I keep getting railed to the point where that lil chick hat option pops up. So what does that do? Fucking. Nothing. I have to cheese the fight with heli bomb drops. Guess what son, an attack heli shows up with another wave of tanks. I did end up finishing the mission but the salt was real. What exactly was the development team smoking when they came up with the idea for this mission

So a dude spends time on Twitter when he's free and it's suddenly like he was totally slacking off during production?

True, time and budgets are a thing for a reason.
But when your assigned that many years to make a game it's completely unacceptable to have that amount of cut content, especially when your advertising said content in trailers.

Kojima and KojiPro clearly fucked up in a bad way, they should have expanded their team and made the content they were advertising.

That wasn't the scenario, I know the freaking guy was not at the Konami offices 24/7 like a slave. I remember seeing things on his twitter and me thinking he was almost done by what he was posting.

what if the content isnt cut and no one knows how to unlock it?

Also when Does Eli show up in game for the 3rd time!?

Why didn't Miller tell Snake he was a clone or that the BB he killed in Outer Heaven was a fake?

Snake looked up to that guy and its turning out he was just used as a pawn by him too.

I need that Kingdom of the Flies... I'll probably never get it... but it would've satisfied my need for an epic MGS ending, I would have been happy with it, even with the dumb twist and stuff - it would've at least given me some awesome closure on Liquid, the final boss would've been awesome! I would have been able to enjoy Liquid once more "FATHER!!!!" instead of "BROTHER!!!!" this time, but it would've REALLY made the story feel full circle, at least in the solid series. For me anyway.

I think it's pretty obvious that child soldiers were what Kojima was referring to. All of the "cut" content revolves around them.

It's difficult to say, given that budget issues could also be part of it. Still, it's a little telling to me that all of the missing content seems to revolve around child soldiers and the more graphic torture stuff we saw in trailers set in Camp Omega. Considering that Kojima was out there saying how controversial this game was going to be and how taboo busting it'd be, it's not hard to imagine him pushing things too far for the higher-ups and having to piece things together after someone went through the script with a red marker.

I'm of two minds if that's the case, because I obviously think Kojima has every right to make a game out of whatever he wants to as an artist... but given how poorly I think these topics were handled in Ground Zeroes, I can't really blame Konami for butting heads with him over it if that's indeed the case.

There's also the very real possibility that they ran out of time, ran out of money, and were poorly managed, and that stuff was simply the least essential to have finished. We'll likely never know.

Either way, the fact that the back half of the game - audaciously titled "chapter 2" - is the campaign missions repeated. That's bonkers. That's straight up lunacy. No other game could get away with that and I'm kinda surprised MGSV did.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the unused/cut content is buried away in the game files. Hopefully we'll get some mods that will restore some of this stuff. Not that it isn't already a massive game as it is, but it would be nice to have a better understanding of what exactly was removed.

Anyone else get that code talker cutscene when your arrive at motherbase right outside the helicopter he tells you some cryptic stuff about Miller and Ocelot. This was right before the truth episode.

It still haunts me that I saw him on the top level of the command platform but never got to approach him because I had gotten back in the helicopter.

Did you not use the Air Support? Sure it limits you to an A, but it effs up those tanks royally.

It's maybe because in the future Miller will recruit and send Solid Snake to kill Big Boss?
I don't know haha.

So the epidemic has started in my Mother Base. Is there any way to actually contain it? Ocelot took me through the little tutorial of quarantining staff but I have no idea what to look for.

wow, thats something.
only 30% complete too? really wonder if its cut or will be DLC
Considering that they at most seem to have that cutscene and concept art of what they wanted the level to look like, not likely, not to mention, a crucial storyline ending being dlc rightfully would receive backlash.

Whaaaat? That's a huge cut.

Edit: Embarrassing how far people have taken "Fuck Konami", a game's gotta come out sometime.

I felt the gameplay fell apart whenever they introduced a "Blow up all these tanks/mechs/sahelanthropos" mission. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Wait, do I need to do brutally hard missions to progress through the story now?

No. Do some side missions, that's what I did. You might have to do some of the hard missions but I definitely didn't do all of them.

That's giving him too much credit.

I don't really get the bellyaching about the cut content anyway. I don't think the Eli mission would have made the rest of the narrative any stronger.

I don't want to attempt to generalize it into one thing either, but a part of me feels like the answer boils down to:

Kojima's run out of stuff to say.

After MGS4 I started to get this impression. As much as I love it, it's pretty much just pulp anime spectacular fanservice nonsense. But The Phantom Pain (and Peace Walker before it) is a huge return to form imo. By looking at language and the ways in which it separates and unites nations and cultures, he's hit upon something profound that he hasn't really touched since Snatcher, that being issues of trust, empathy, and general communication, which is a major element of international confict. The way he wrapped it all up in a cool bio-horror motif is awesome, and the science was as illuminating and well-researched as ever.

The ties to the Solid Snake trilogy perhaps weren't the smoothest, but at this point in the MGS universe, I can overlook the ridiculous contrivances.

Actually no, I went back to old main missions and did some of the side objectives and the story kept going that way (not even sure if doing side objectives is a requirement, maybe you only need to replay missions), reached the true ending and I only completed two of the "extreme" missions.

Oh ok, I just assumed it was the hard stuff that needed to be played.

Another example of how the games have gone out of their way to portray Big Boss as a good guy; not only does he never put down Liquid, he tries to help him, tries to save his life, goes mad when he thinks he killed him, and tells him "don't blame yourself, blame me".

This doesn't look like someone who would keep reminding him he's weak.

The game was not made for boss battles. Battling sahelanthro whatever it's called was the clunkiest mess I've ever taken part in.

Yep, that and the te horde mode battle with quiet were just no fun at all.

Sahelanthropos shouldve been a stealth battle with a One hit kill if you're spottted. Not a 10 minute battle with an obscure one hit kill danger right at the end. No fun at all.

That's venom. The real big boss according to the cassette tapes wants nothing to do with the clones. But I agree that the big boss we've been presented with in mgs3, peace walker and mgs4, it seems out of character for him that he would constantly put liquid down.
